$ 42 for a pizza and a chicken Caesar salad. What. The. Hell? Pizza was abysmal. I like thin crust as much as the next guy, but this was some kind of farce. The crowd: lots of drunk mookie ex-New Yorkers. Which is not a bad thing per-se. But can be. The vibe can be pretty decent. If you’ve got lots of cash, like to drink and not that into great food, then this place is for you. Oh, it gets really crowded too. So obviously they don’t need good reviews.

I literally live around the corner from this restaurant and for whatever reason I have only been there twice in the 15 years I’ve lived here. Most people say the same thing when I mentioned I went here so its great that they have been able to stay open for so many years especially in this day and age where restaurants just down the street at the Century City mall can’t stay open past 3 years. Carmine’s has a very intimate, somewhat romantic vibe to it. It’s dark and quaint with not a ton of tables and a small bar in front. The menu is pretty basic Italian… pick a mean and style. We opted for splitting their special(which was salmon) and the chicken marsala. The salmon was really delectable from how they cooked it and it came with some steamed vegetables. The chicken marsala was also really good and came with steamed spinach and a small side of penne pasta. I’m taking one star off only because the service was a tad slow considering there was only us and one other table there right when they opened at 5:30PM but I wouldn’t consider it a factor to not go back again. I definitely would and won’t wait another 10+ years to do so. :)

THE ferry best in everything Italian made with a whole lotta TLC! The dimly lit, warm, luscious ambiance opens the appetite perfectly for their authentic Italian fare! Traveling to LA from NYC, I thought I tried the best of them. Then my mouth met the Eggplant Rollatini in the Opening Act(appetizers)… Bravo!!- just the right amount of everything rollatini, and a melting delicious tarantella of eggplant and mozzarella! MmMm Then the Kim’s Black and White pie met my eyes– I’m in love!!! The Boss does it again! Some more mozzarella/ricotta loving and a little black pepper to kick your ass xoxox I LOVEYOUCARMINESII!

I took my boyfriend to Carmine’s for his birthday in July(forgive me for taking so long — I don’t remember our exact order now). We received absolutely phenomenal service. I had mentioned that it was a special occasion, and boy did they make it special! Our reservation was at 7:30, but we arrived closer to 7. I mentioned my name, and we were seated promptly. Our waiter informed me that he had appetizers already on their way to the table, which was a pleasant surprise. He picked a great bottle from their wine selection at our request — not too pricey either which was nice! My boyfriend ordered the eggplant parmigiana, and I had a pasta. Both were fantastic, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. After we finished eating, the waiter brought out a lovely dessert to top off the meal. 10⁄10(or 5/5, I suppose). :) Looking forward to my next meal here!

As soon as we walked in for lunch, I realized I had been there before for dinner. It is very dark. As other’s have said, very«ratpack». I am originally from San Francisco, and I know old, dark, red leather booth Italian Restaurants. The difference, is that the food in North Beach is a LOT better. I had the eggplant parm, and it was ok, but not fabulous. My friend had a pizza, cut Midwest style(in squares) and it was ok, kinda dry.

Carmine’s is small and unassuming on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside(and I jest). Charming 12 – 14 tables with 10 stools at the bar. Lively jazz playing in the background. Exposed brick on one side, framed b&w celebrity pics on the other. Regulars, old-timers, lawyers, and George Cooney’s. It’s a place to do an old school power lunch. I like the feel. The menu is a 2 pager and looks small. It’s only because they don’t list any descriptions of things. Batter up for lunch: Meatball Sandwich($ 18) with fries or salad. Bread was Ciabatta, cut in half. Not the best for a sandwich of this type(balls): bite, squish, and meatballs fly out of the sides. Meatballs were housemade(I presume, yesterday), but microwaved warm so it effected the texture(3.0 stars). Something’s were additionally off, and could’ve been better: — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — - * Ice tea(dark, pre-made) * Fries(frozen) * Bread(small loaf, sliced, not warm and not delicious) * Parm cheese(inexpensive type) * $ 5 valet parking + tip. Really? Still, I want to go back for more. Service was delightful. Great ambiance. Great jazz.

I took my wife to Carmine’s II for our 7th anniversary. It’s a little fancy compared to our usual fare, but our server(I forget her name, sorry! But the happy bubbly gal) made us feel comfortable with our lack of knowledge on the drinks and dishes. Carmine himself greeted us at the door and was similarly friendly. We went early: 5:30 pm. It was quiet, dark, and romantic. We could hear each other, which is all we wanted in the world(we’re parents of two young kids). My wife and I both enjoyed our dinner and experience immensely and will definitely go again.

This place can be great if you order the right stuff. Get the specials. I ordered both the Dover Sole(w/Angel Hair) special and the Spaghetti Shrimp off the menu. Dover Sole: + 5 stars Spaghetti Shrimp: — 5 stars

Food was good not great. Definitely too pricey for what it was. Also, the price for the small glass of house wine was a rip-off. Service was good tho, of course we were early. Website stated casual elegance for the attire, but that was far far from what was worn. I think shorts, t-shirts and flip flops would have worked.

They need to use a computer for billing It is impossible to figure out the bill. I’m surprised that they do not have one.

We went to Carmine’s for the first time for my husband’s birthday. We were enticed by the solid reviews and mistakenly ignored the negative ones that described mediocre food and poor service. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing… the waiter did not return to our table after taking our order unless we literally waved our arms in the air for things like water, bread, etc. The food really was just mediocre at best. The manager also had a terrible attitude when I expressed my disappointment. Will not be returning.

A solid Italian place that has some old school history to it. Old rat pack joint. Love, love, loved the black and white pizza(no sauce) and the paella was outstanding. Lee enjoyed the penne alla vodka and the chicken fettuccine Alfredo too. Nice wine list too– some medium priced Italian wines you’ll love.

I love really small old school restaurants and Carmine’s is just that. Start off with the yummy toasted garlic bread or the warm Italian bread while you enjoy a glass of Franciscan Chardonnay. The chopped salad is my favorite along with the spaghetti aglio al olio. My husband likes the linguini with clams. Service is excellent which is why we always come back for more.

Tries to position itself as a Rat Pack — Vegas nostalgia Italian establishment. PROS: — Onsite parking($ 5 cash) is definitely the way to go. It’s hard to find any street parking nearby. — Cheerful service. — Intimate layout. CONS: — Surprisingly mediocre food, and way overpriced esp. given the disappointing quality. — Kinda noisy d/t small space. — Loud, loud manager. CONCLUSION: The tucked-away location and intimate interior give this place a certain«secret hideaway» charm that hints at Hollywood in-the-know. But the cooking is in dire need of an upgrade. Perhaps if they hired a consulting chef to step up the quality of the cuisine, Carmine’s could be turned into a gem.

Amazing place. Quaint décor reminiscent of the«Rat Pack» days. Only a handful of tables. Warm, friendly servers who are very approachable and knowledgable. The calamari was fantastic. Had some sort of spinach appetizer and a flat pizza before the meal and they were simple, yet perfect. I was going to order the chicken parmesan, but switched to the Sole. I’m from the NW, eat tons of seafood, but that was probably the best fish I’ve ever had. Oh, and the tiramisu is spectacular. Highly recommend it to anybody.

Love this place! I almost don’t wish to review, because I love it that much. It is the perfect, intimate, dark and warmly lit, Italian, large portion, great menu, quaint bar, warm old-world staffed restaurant. Great wine selection… food that loves your mouth the way only an Italian can… :) Love, love, love it!

Came here for the first time Friday night. Met a friend for cocktails. He has known the owners for ages and is a regular. The bar is dark and cozy which was great on the hot day I went there. Everybody was nice, they had sports on the TV. There appeared to be a fair number of regulars which is always a good sign. I watched the food and drinks coming out and everything looks delicious. I had a lemon drop(of course!) and then I tried the ravioli appetizer. Both were excellent! While there was street parking, I just left the car at Valet — easier for me. The valet was friendly and efficient. My car was beautifully parked right up front. Know before you go, the restaurant is on «little Santa Monica» so depending on how the direction you are coming from you may have to go around the block to be on the right side of the street to get in. People were dressed nicely, but also casual. I’ll definitely go back.

I like this place… errrr, joint. It’s dark so people can’t see if your having cocktails in the middle of the day, which I wasn’t but like. Bartender who’s been their for years and knows your name. Great service and really nice specials for lunch. I had the pasta special and it was perfect, big so I took half back to work. My friend had a salmon salad she loves and was not on the menu… but they made it anyway. Great garlic bread, crunchy and warm. My only not five stars is the… uh…well…hmmmm. Just changed it to 5!
