Really preppy. Really expensive. High quality but you pay for it. A little«old» style for my tastes.

Do not purchase from this store. We spent $ 3000 on a vintage Rolex watch, which started rusting and broke one month after purchase. The store then refused to fix the watch at their cost. We agreed to pay the cost of repair, which then took over 2 ½ months to get back. If you expect decent salespeople and purchases that meet quality standards, do not purchase from this store!!!

Everything is mad expensive for American made clothing at Steven Alan, but their designs are one-of-a-kind. Great service that doesn’t hound you – like at Fred Segal – makes for a great shopping experience on a lazy and sunny afternoon.

Good stuff. It’s very plaid right now, with shirts that remind me of my prep school days, but I’m reading that the preppy/lumberjack look is all the rage for the coming season. Anyway, good quality stuff, casual hipster looking and decent prices. Friendly and easy store to navigate. I got a great down puffer on sale. The kind of place I could see myself popping into every few months and finding something good that I’ll wear regularly. Nice staff.

I passed this store for the first time a few weeks ago. In an era of cheaply made clothing, where limp sweaters, t-shirts with skull, biker, or poker cliches and $ 250 jeans are the mainstay of most mainstream men’s fashion, this place stands out. It is full of almost old-fashioned, well made clothes, where great attention to detail, fabric and tailoring is evident. This is a grown-up company whose customers want to be well dressed without screaming about it. The only drawback to their line may be a superficial resemblance to J. Crew with lots of plaid shirts and crew neck sweaters. But pick up an item in Steven Alan and feel it with your hands. You will know you’re not in J. Crew.

Seeing the Steven Alan stock at Barney’s made me lose interest in the brand. I mean, they make well constructed shirts and they look great on, but it is nothing out of the ordinary. Seeing the stock at the Steven Alan store flipped my opinion 180 degrees. Really great line, classy yet relaxed with a hint of Americana. I know that was a generic and somewhat lame explanation of the line, but you’ll just have to go and check it out for yourself. I fell head over heels over their new reverse seam flannel this season… if only I had stopped there first instead of the sale at Fred Segal, I would be wearing it right now. Knitted shawls, cardigans, and more… once again, a very solid line. Don’t expect J. Crew or Banana Republic prices though… but the craftmanship and design provides a some justification. What made the clothes even more appealing was the helpful and courteous staff. On that end of the Melrose spectrum I did not expect to be treated so well. They didn’t hound you like commission-hungry sales associates, but were not distant either. The word that pops in my mind is ‘pleasant’. The store itself is somewhat small but packs a lot of stuff! The space is illuminated with natural light via the glass store front… makes you feel extra clean. At least I did. Along with the house brand they also carried bags by Poter(Japanese label) and Filson. That flannel is mine once I sell more things on eBay.

a great selection of steven alan staples — reversed seam collared shirts, tunic shirts, jackets, ruffled bottom underwear, etc. AND you can find foley and corrina mid-city totes in standard leather, studded hardware, and snakeskin. i also love the jewelry cabinet at the front desk where they have a small selection of vintage rings and necklaces. definitely worth a stop if you are on robertson blvd!

I highly recommend this excellent boutique. For Steven’s mens clothing alone this store is worth a stop. While the clothing is pricey for some, it isn’t too overly so. there is alot of mid-range priced items with amazing style. it is preppy upscale casual, or just casual but with style. very very hip style for today. go take a look! A terrific store I am happy made the jump from NYC to LA. (UPDATE) I noticed one review that noticed a similarity on some shirts to some to from J Crew. Well there is a reason for this, J Crew spied Steven Alan’s designs and copied them, not identically, but pretty similar. J Crew literally had the owner of their company’s son spy on Steven Alan, pretty sleazy stuff. A bit of fashion espionage and to be honest J Crew was evil for what they did. but… the J Crew shirts are kind of plain when compared to steven alan, the fabric used by j crew is just mediocre, and can’t even compare to the finely USA made shirts from Steven Alan. But that is a bit of little known info. Boycott J Crew!
