Mmhmm

Previous reviewers got it right. Doorman a real problem. And they can’t decide if the entrance is from inside the diner or on the street. His rudeness is just dumb. Even in the last century, when that kind of dickdom was rampant, it only happened at the hip spot of the moment. These days, even the tightest doors turn you away with courtesy. That way, you might be tempted to come back when they’re not so popular and spend some money. But if they insist on being jerks, first generate the buzz, then the attitude. One insecure door guy with a sadly unhip hat does not a cool club make. Wendall, you are missed. And by the way, if you do get past him after dealing with parking and his border guard etiquette, nothing to reward you inside. Now you feel like a two time loser.

Oh man, this place really sucks. I had so many good times at the Purple Room. This place has weird vibes.

Mmhmm? More like uh, uh. I use this term frequently and I’m so sad that this bar/​club has forever tainted it.
Strolled up to The Standard one night and happened upon the old Purple Lounge. I don’t know what happened at the «door» which is a rope in front of the kitchen area, but the guy was absolutely rude for no reason. I wasn’t intending to go in, I was just curious about the new space. He didn’t have any time for me, even though there was not a soul in sight, so it’s not like my questions were keeping him from handling a mega line of people bowling over one another to get in. Au contraire. It was a sad scene, made worse by the fact that somehow a friend and I were let in only to be met with a bare venue with a handful of dancing wildabeasts that had no care in the world if we «crashed» their party. It was an embarrassment for mankind, really.
There was nothing memorable about the place, in a good way, at least. I love The Standard, so I’ll give it some slack because at least they’re using the space as opposed to letting it sit idly. And if you ever want to have a private event, I bet Mmhmm would be a good place to have all to yourself.
