really diggin their happy hour! half price on rolls. cant beat that! The service was not bad, but it was more of a. I get up and walk to the bar to order kind of ordeal but i’m cool with that. It was only like 3 steps away so no biggie. I came here with some girlfriends and we ordered so many different rolls that I can’t remember which one was which. but let me tell you… the stuffed then fried mushrooms thats on the hh menu is heavenly! I’d say happy hour is your best bang for your buck as always! oh now i remember. CRUNCHROLL is to die for. mmmmm!

Delicious Sushi, HORRIBLE service. Fat Fish I wish I could give you a higher rating but your service was just HORRIBLE. I can’t emphasize this enough. We ordered drinks and about 8 rolls of sushi and it took about an hour to even get our drink. Our waitor was some boy that didn’t even come to our table to check up on us while we were waiting. Luckily, when the sushi came out it was amazing. I can’t believe I haven’t come here before being the sushi connosiur that I am. We ordered the spicy tuna on rice cakes, lobster roll, scallops, and 2 other rolls, and they were all melt in my mouth amazing. All sushi was half off too! And the drinks were strong! They do not cheat you on your $ 6.00 drink. Parking is difficult, as it is on Robertson a block a way from the ever so busy Santa Monica Boulevard. Try to find a spot on the street, but you might be circling. I will give you another chance, Fat Fish, but teach your servers how to serve. At least you have amazing sushi chefs. I will try to come back here in the near future.

My buddy and I popped in for Happy Hour today, after a gorgeous Los Angeles spring day(80F) of lounging by the pool drinking Malibu and Coke. Can’t think of anything more deserving of a Happy Hour treat than that. Anyway, he was treating so I was eating. Popped into the back bar area around 6:45pm. It was a warm day, as I said, and the back bar wasn’t air conditioned, it was a bit uncomfortably toasty, especially for a sushi bar, which is generally(for some reason) a cooler environment. The ambiance was aesthetically pleasing, but something about the fish smell with the warm stuffiness didn’t bode well for me. I’d have appreciated the AC cranked up a bit and the door closed. The servers were nice enough, though not overly attentive. A few times we had to flag them down to get their attention, and it wasn’t overly busy. Not bad service, just nothing standout about it either. Because it was happy hour, it was $ 40 for the two of us for a round of drinks and a few happy hour sushi selections. I can imagine that you’d drop an easy $ 30pp if it wasn’t happy hour, minimum. The sushi itself was pretty standard fare. Nothing ‘popped’ and impressed me, though it was perfectly serviceable. I enjoyed it, but for the money, I think I’d probably check out another place first, or go to one of my other regular places. It was pretty and convenient, but pricey and mediocre.

Happy Hour Review! It’s one of the best happy hours that I’ve been to in some time. For starters, their happy hour goes ’til 8pm, giving working people some time to actually enjoy it. My most recent happy hour discoveries go ’til 7pm, making it pretty difficult for friends to make it in time. Fat Fish also has happy hour again starting at 10pm ’til close. Closing is 11pm, Monday-Thursday and 12am on Friday & Saturday. The happy hour menu is pretty damn intense. At first, I thought it was only one page, not that there’s anything wrong with that. It turns out the happy hour menu is three, long pages — one for drinks, two for food! There’s plenty of drink specials from sake to wine to beer to specialty drinks. The drinks are priced from $ 3 – 9. While $ 9 is on the pricier side for a cocktail at happy hour, I’d love to see the size of that thing considering my $ 6 drink nearly rivaled Lola’s giant martinis. My drink of choice was the Peach Sake-tini($ 6), made of sake, white peach purée, & orange juice. My friend, Kyle, went for the sake-tinis as well. He had the Horny Sake-tini, made with Triple Sec and Prickly Pear Cactus, and the Classi-Tini, shaken with cucumber slices like a classic martini. I liked my Peach Sake-tini so much that I stuck with that. To start off our dinner, we were served complimentary edamame! With 2 pages of 50% off food to choose from, we deferred to our server for suggestions. We split a few different rolls and sushi specials. We went for some basics, like spicy tuna($ 4). At the suggestion of our server and one of Kyle’s coworkers, we also ordered the Negi Hama Roll($ 4), yellowtail & green onion roll; spicy tuna on crispy rice($ 7), Sakura Roll, ahi tuna with fresh lemon over spicy tuna & crab($ 8). The Sakura Roll was definitely a favorite thanks to the lemon zest. With 4 reasonably sized cocktails and 6 sushi rolls & specials, our shared bill was just a little over $ 50! Usually, when I go out for sushi I choose my order very carefully, even though I want to try everything, because sushi does not come cheap(and it shouldn’t). It’s great to have a spot to expand my sushi tastes. Fat Fish is definitely not to be missed for an after work dinner!

I used to be a regular here although I have never eaten in the actual dining room. I came here so much I actually got really tired of the place and told myself I wouldn’t come back for a looooong time. It had been so long that I actually forgot about the place until now. I only ever come here for the happy hour, which is in the waaay back. It is a small place, but normally there are seats when I go or a really quick wait. I think the bar area recently went through a remodel, so don’t look up because you will see plaster that needs to be fixed. Also, I am not so sure I like the new décor. Are those little fish on the seats? Who picked that fabric? This wouldn’t stop me from coming here. One reason I come here is because it is so close to where I live I can walk, so no worrying about parking or driving after the strong drinks. Parking in this area can be horrendous unless you want to pay through the roof. I went here the other night and was pleasantly surprised that the happy hour menu had changed and there were a ton more options now. So many options that I don’t even remember what I ended up ordering or maybe it was because I had 2 mojitos and I am a light weight. I had the mango mojito which wasn’t worth the extra dollar. The regular mojito was much better. I normally get the mango margarita, which I highly recommend. One of my fav drinks there. Find something you like and stick with it. Anyways, the bartender Justin is pretty good. He was super busy and tried his best to stay attentive to everyone. He gave us great recommendations. Everything he recommended was scrumptious, so just ask him what to order and you will be happy. Now remember the sushi isn’t going to be the most amazing sushi you ever had, but it is decent and even more decent for the price. You will not be disappointed.

It was hard to find the door, but I am assuming they put down the plastic canopy thingy mah jig to keep the rain out. Okay fine, I understand that but can you make the place look a little bit better than a big garbage bag? We walked in and were completely ignored and didn’t know if we were to seat ourselves or wait. We made our way through the restaurant and asked to be seated. We sat outside. Okay fine. but they’re lucky they have those gas heaters! We couldn’t even get real chopsticks? Seriously though I swear I got a splinter from their disposable chopsticks last night. I’m okay with disposable ones, but these ones felt a lot like cardboard! –It took forever and a day for our waitress to find her way to our table and take our order. –Two of my friends ordered miso soup and they brought one out and not the other so one friend had to eat hers in front of the other which gotta suck. Had to ask when the other soup was coming. Waitress could have been a lot nicer with her answer. –Usually tea would come out before the meal so you can enjoy your tea while you wait, right? Not here. They bring it out about half an hour after you wait… with your sushi. Strange. –You cleared our plates a very long time ago and we’re sitting here in silence because we ran out of things to talk about as we wait for our check… so YES, we do want our check… please! Now if you would have checked up on us like most other places, you would have learned that yes, we are done and we want to get out of there. **SUSHI was GOOD for its price. For that reason, you win two stars from me. Service freakin’ sucked. I can’t say it enough… our waitress sucked. Please send her to some sort of customer service seminar so that she can learn a thing or two. A smile couldn’t hurt either. I promise.

Fat Fish is the kinda place you take your co-workers, a small group of friends or your cool uncle. A hidden sushi secret that locals love. I had forgotten how much I had liked this place. I had first gone to Fat Fish with some co-workers for their happy hour in the lounge about 5 years ago. I remembered loving their little lounge area and the cute bartenders. Yesterday, when looking for an inexpensive, hip, non pretentious, sushi restaurant to chill and drink some sake with my BFF, I remembered Fat Fish! I am so glad that I did. Apparently they have«happy hour» prices all the time now. Oh yeah! Most of the rolls and drinks are 50% off and OMG the drinks are delicious. The Lychee Martini is quite perfectly made here, among others like prickly pear margarita. A bottle of sake will run you about 5 – 6 bucks! The prices here are so great, I almost felt as if they made a mistake on my bill. The rolls are very american-casual-sushi. Lots of tempura-fried rolls, «caviar» and almost every roll has avocado in it. We tried the Fat ASS, LA Roll, Sakura Roll and Ichi Roll. All were very good. I would definitely recommend reservations on the weekends, but the lounge/bar is also an option as it is first come first served and they do serve food in there. We waited about 25 minutes on a Saturday night for a table. Not too bad. The people next to us were dolled up and on a date. I was dressed up, my friend was more casual, in a sweatshirt and sneakers and I ran into a friend who was here with her dad. It’s that kinda place. Everyone’s welcome. Oh, and give yourself lots of extra time to find parking b/c 8 bucks for valet is a little ridiculous cousin Larry. Fat Fish, I forgive you though, because you give complimentary edamame! Woot woot!

What’s really going on people? I enjoyed Fat Fish! New Year New Happy Hour! Fat Fish now offers the Happy Hour menu all night! That’s right ladies and gents get a yummy lychee martini or a prickly pear margarita for around 6 bucks all night long! Came around 6pm on a Friday, not a big crowd in the front of the restaurant but the bar was poppin, The salmon terriyaki was a great pick as well as the beef terriyaki skewers. They offer all the edamame you want… which is a plus in my book. The coconut shrimp and tuna tartare were just ok! Overall a great time! Finally the piece de resistance the chocolate cake was absolutely devine, it was pretty similar to a lava cake! Warm gooey center! I’ll be back! Oh I can’t forget Akira our waitress she was wonderful!

Best Happy Hour Ever. OK, sliiightly on the higher side of what counts as BHHE(Best Happy Hour Ever, duh) but considering it rides the border of Beverly Hills, I’ll let it slide. DELICIOUS sake-tinis for only $ 6 with fresh fruit, lots and lots of epic sounding rolls to choose from, most under $ 10, and a great casual vibe with enclosed patio. My one qualm with this place? Slowesttt service everrrr. Be sure you like your dinner companions, you’ll be spending lots of waiting time together.

This place place was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting overpriced, unoriginal dishes… What I got was a great deal and gourmet sushi fusion. The 5 –at-5 appetizer deals are all great. I almost wanted to get one of each but I had to save some room for the fat fish! I narrowed it down to the crab cakes and the coconut shrimp. The cakes were breaded into 3 balls and looked almost like a frozen out of the box from Trader Joe’s — but extremely fresh and crabby on the inside. You can never judge a crab cake by it’s shell I suppose. The tasty aioli rommulade was a perfect dip to accompany. Like a French Horn to a Viola… The coconut shrimp was decent but not in the same league as the cakes. At $ 5 though, both are a steal. The scallop roll with the traditional fusion spicy mayo were pretty good, as was the yellow tail and the other fusion roll I tried. I saw Ginger Y mention that the fish is no prepared by real sushi chefs. I’m happy sticking to the hot app deals at happy hour and the occasion scallop roll. The Asahi large beers are very cheap too during the happy hour.

I have never been to Fat Fish, even though I hang out over there all the time. Maybe because I rarely get past the Abbey… Anyway I went with a group of 12 and we sat on the patio. The restaurant was very cute and cozy. The servers were great. Totally efficient and friendly. Plus there is one waiter there who kind of looks like Gerrard Butler. Extra star Fat Fish. The drinks were creative, well made, and delicious. I opted for a glass of the house Cabernet and it was smooth and warm. Delish. The martinis were also a big hit at our table, but I was driving so…(btw $ 8 valet) The food was gorgeous. We had everything, but the stand outs in my mind are the ahi rolls with spicy crab meat, the seafood dumplings, the crab hand roll, the chicken fried rice, and the jalapeño albacore sashimi starter. Well prepared, fresh ingredients, and presented in a beautiful, West Hollywood approved manner. High five Fat Fish.

Happy Hour review #120,457 Note to sushi snobs: This place is called FATFISH. Clearly it’s going to take some *gasp* Western liberties with sushi! Meet up with some fellow WeHo dwellers last Friday and walked away totally stuffed and mildly buzzed for the low low price of $ 100(before tax/tip) for four peeps. Keep in mind, I was the lone female and my male compadres are big eaters(and drinkers), so this was a steal! Walked in around 6:30pm and lucked out in snagging a table for four otherwise we would’ve been SOL because it filled up fast. The hostess begrudgingly told us they allowed happy hour to overflow into the main dining area, but considering it was a) desolate and b) the Unilocal reviews about getting screwed during HH in the dining room, I wasn’t about to chance our 50% off. The $ 6 saketinis were surprisingly strong(and delicious) without being sickeningly sweet. Our chums stuck with the massive $ 5 Asahi bottles served with frosted mugs. Considering the regular roll prices aren’t toooo bad, the ½ off lead us on a long, delicious journey including caterpillar roll($ 5!), WeHo roll, Fat AASS($ 6), spider roll($ 4), yellowtail($ 4) and too many more to admit. I’m allergic to shellfish, so imitation crab is A-OK with me and they even tell you right on the menu which rolls use«real» crab. Saves me an epi-pen, so thanks! Service started out stellar… it looks like the two bartenders took turns waiting on tables, and at first we felt almost smothered but by 8:15pm when we were ready for the check? Crickets.

This place has ok sushi that isn’t always fresh an is loaded with mayonnaise and faux crab. The happy hour is this only thing that could even make it worth it. We ate here the other day and got a fat fish roll, shaker roll, happy hour fried rice and a spicy tuna crisp. Like I said the rolls are stuff with gross crab and mayo mix, the fried rice with chicken was very under seasoned and very bland and the crispy rice dish was OK but the rice was really hard and got stuck in our teeth. Ok enough about the food, we came in for the hAppy hour and the hostess told us it was only available in the bar. When we went back it was packed so we had to Come and ask to be seated in the front. Once they agreed to seat us our server barely paid attention to us and she was very rude, even though the front of the restaurant wasn’t full at all. She was more interested in her cell phone at the sushi Bar than she was in us, and let our food sit on the food try for a while before she brought it to us. Thankfully our meal was cheap, but I will not be coming back to fat fish!

Now that is what I call a bar tender! Enter through the side entrance, around the corner from Robertson. No password necessary. I have never eaten in the main restaurant. I have only routinely gone to the happiest hour on earth location in their bar area. So what if it is a smaller room. Get over it. Quality not quantity right? Well this place gives you both. Strong drinks at half the price are made easy on the eyes as well. The muddled fruit and berries of vibrant and complementing colors actually make you feel less guilty about drinking. I happen to like the smaller bar scene here. They have seating areas with tables and chairs, an adorable lounge area, as well as 6 bar stools. I am usually with a group so I like to make sure and get the couches. That area also has the best views of the flat screens playing old movies, music and surf videos. Very attentive tenders and servers. Their competitive, conceptual sushi is both inventive and choice. I enjoy both their apps and rolls. Its no Matsuhisa(or Haruki of Providence for that matter), hence the 4 stars. But it is great for a normal daily outing, which won’t break your bank. I think they get their fish in on tuesdays, so I like to go then because it is the freshest. And in the words of Paris Hilton, «going out on fridays is so desperate.»

Lured in by the happy hour deal of 50% off rolls, we ignored the stupid name and its Americanized implications and gave Fat FIsh a try. Dinner came out to about $ 50 with drinks, so it was definitely cheap enough, though nearly $ 10 of that was just for the upcharges of substituting brown rice for our rolls. The main problem was that every single roll tasted EXACTLY the same. There was weird fake crab stuff– I know crab is usually Krab unless you’re at a high end place, but most people manage to disguise it well enough– that was grossly textured and stuck out of the rolls like silly string. It was hard to find any rolls without crab, and our selection was further limited by not wanting our roll fried or containing«crunchies,» as leftover fry bits do not a good meal make. Overall, bleh. Generic, somewhat tasteless, not worth returning.

I was originally only going to give this place 2 stars because the sushi wasn’t really out of this world. In fact, it was just totally unforgettable and pretty expensive. They don’t even wrap their sushi in seaweed; instead, they use this light pink waxy tasting paper, which I personally did not like because it doesn’t have the same punch of flavor you normally get with nori. The only sushi I really enjoyed was one that came with marinated beef inside — I loved the combination of warm beef, mixed with cold fresh vegetables! Beef in sushi… what’s not to like?! But I will give this place that third star for their dessert alone. I had one of the most magical desserts here! It was chocolate ice cream, strawberries, kiwis, carmelized bananas, crispy pastry pieces, toasted marshmallows and chocolate/raspberry drizzling! This was a modern twist on a complete childhood throwback dessert, which I always find very cool! I especially loved the toasted marshmallows, although they did start to stick to the plate after awhile… so you better gobble this one up quick! But definitely get this dessert if you come here! Since this is LA, expect to spend at least 10 minutes driving around aimlessly looking for parking, but you can definitely find it — there are some free spots if you drive around enough. They have an outdoor patio area, which is good for people watching and for enjoying the surrounding LA nightlife.

Dropped by for drinks at the bar, which is a separate room with its own entrance behind the restaurant. It’s also connected to the main dining room. They call it a wine bar, but I think they have a lot of focus on cocktails made with fresh fruit. They have martinis made mostly with sake(sake-tinis), other cocktails, and mojitos. I had a saketini with cucumber; it came with a slice of the vegetable, was refreshing and quite strong. Friend got a strawberry mojito. Too sweet for me, but great if you like some variety to the classic. Ambience was somewhat stale. I even saw a couple walk in — and walk out after taking a look around. I suppose it’s difficult when you have places like Sur and The Abbey just north and south. The room is quite small and there’s only a couple tables, a corner booth and short bar. Also, they were showing baseball on a Friday night. Parking is difficult, so valet!

Best sushi happy hour in all of Weho, and likely all of LA. Should I have a break with clients 5−8pm, 90% likelihood I’ll roll solo to Fat Fish for my new favorite, the Cilantro Roll or two… The fish is fresh, and they will make amendations requested like«leave out the cream cheese» or «sauce on the side…» without attitude. The bartenders in the backroom are super-friendly, efficient and attentive. Can’t beat the 50% off price. To address the negatives reviews: communication is key! Always ask about a deal when you enter or make a reservation. Mention happy hour within earshot of anyone at Fat Fish you’ll be lead to the back bar to dine half price. Drinks: Can’t speak to the festive blends here, as I stick with soda as mixer, but with sushi, you can’t go wrong with a little cheap sake. Unlike many sushi houses delivering rolls with ingredients not listed with the menu item like surprise creamy mayo-based sauces and tempura, I do find the Fat Fish menu accurate. Note, the freshest fish will not be in sauce-drenched rolls, since aggressive sauce easily conceals the unpleasant taste or smell in of old fish or other foods suspect to spoiling. You’re entited to deem me compulsive. It kinda goes with the occupation and my desire to avoid disappointment. With sushi or any pricier cuisine, our expectations are automatically higher. To avoid more common sushi mishaps and keep it nutritious, see my blog: «Sushi: Avoiding(Unhealthy) Hiccups» Hope that helps. Cheers to our health! Whitney

Oh boy. Once again, this dinner was a bit fuzzy due to the TWO martinis I had. TWO! I must be losing my touch. We came here last week since someone had a craving for sushi. Not me, I must add. I’m not big on sushi these days, give me meat or cooked fish any day. It took me 45 effen minutes to drive from the westside to Weho, so when I arrived I ordered a martini as soon as I sat down. LATRAFFICKILLSME! But, it wouldn’t be LA without the traffic right? I had the Sex N Honey martini which consisted of honey vodka, pineapple and cracked black pepper. It was blecchhh. but I downed it anyway and felt an instant alcoholic euphoria. The food was nothing special, but we did order TWO plates of BBQ ribs for my daughter who devoured both of them. OK, I had 4 – 5 pieces total, but damn, she ate those like it was going outta style. I guess the sweetness of the ribs were a good thing. Sushi rolls were pretty mediocre. The lobster roll tasted more like shrimp and was ehhh at best. Spicy tuna roll was also just okay. My dining companion had the salmon and unagi sushi and he said he liked it, so you’ll just have to go on his opinion. Oh, forgo the fried dumplings. They were not good at all. Just get the ribs and some martinis and you’ll be good to go. Since I didn’t much care for the Sex N Honey, I ordered a Lychee martini and it was 50 times better. When in doubt, stick with what you know. Lesson learned. Lychee martini hit the spot! I was buzzing good after 2 sips. I probably didn’t need to finish the whole drink, but I’m not one to waste alcohol. Service was pretty good and the ambience tended towards a clubby/loungey scene. They blasted hip hop and top 40 music from those speakers. At some points, I had to yell during my conversation. Or maybe I had to yell because I was drunk? We’ll never know. Dinner was about $ 130. Not cheap, food was mediocre, but I’d come back just so my daughter could have more ribs. Oh ya, lychee martinis for me! Pix–

I was deeply disappointed. I had the nutty roll and the sakura, and they both weren’t anything special. and for 16 bucks for one roll… it definitely wasn’t anything special. They were wayyy too chewy, and didn’t taste quite right. There was practically no one in the place, and our waiter was nice, but very awkward. But all in all, 1 star for free edamame, and 1 for the décor/friendly awkward waiter. Oh, and parking sucks… but thats melrose/west hollywood for you. My stomach hurts now. :(
