It’s true, they’re gone… Looks like they’re shutting down the whole shopping center. The woman at the Chinese place next door says she doesn’t think they moved to a new location or anything… Just closed. RIP Bombay Grill, sniff… Now trying Crown of India to see if it can replace Bombay Grill in our hearts and/or take-out food rotation.

Bombay grill is amazing. My family ate here regularly for over 20 years(back when I was only a twinkle in my parents’ eyes) and now that we live out of town, we make it a point to pay the wonderful owners a visit every time we drive into LA. The lemon chicken and naan are personal favorites of mine, and my mom swears by the eggplant. It’s the definition of a hole-in-the-wall, but the food and friendliness of the owners more than makes up for it. Give it a shot, and I promise you won’t regret it.

I went to this restaurant expecting the food to be AMAZING since my Indian friend said the food tasted just like what his mom cooked. However, I was disappointed. We ordered the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala. They did not taste bad, but they were pretty expensive. The naan lacked flavor and did not have that nice crispy texture I like. Also, the rice was old and hard, but that might have been because I went an hour before closing time. The owners were very nice, but I don’t think I will be returning. At least I have leftovers for tomorrow!

This is a great little hole in the wall place in a strip mall. A very nice Indian family cooks and serves you. The kitchen is open for all to see, even the open file pit where they cook the naan bread. The chicken tiki masala was fantastic. The curry lamb was so so. It’s so much food, that you’ll be having it again for lunch the next day.

Before I met my husband, he would eat here at least 2 times per week. He was addicted to their Chicken Tikkaa and na’an. Good food. Big portion sizes. Great family that runs the place. And reasonable prices. Go here, eat lots of deliciousness, and be happy! :)

If you’re looking for Indian food that tastes like mediocre takeout Chinese food, you’ve come to the right place! I have enjoyed Indian food at many random yet delicious hole-in-the-wall type places. This was by far the most baffling Indian food experience I’ve ever had. The chicken tikka masala, usually a safe and comfortable standby, tasted nothing like it normally does. The normally spicy-creamy sauce was instead syrupy sweet, and, oddly, a bright red. It didn’t even taste like they used any of the standard spices. It tasted more like the inside of Chinese bbq pork buns than chicken tikka masala. In fact, if you had told me that this entrée was from Panda Express, I would have believed you. Instead of the standard fluffy basmati rice usually served in Indian restaurants, this place served overcooked lumps of regular rice — again, just what I would expect to see plopped into my styrofoam container at a takeout Chinese food place, but not from a highly Unilocal-rated Indian restaurant. The naan, instead of being tender and crispy, was heavy and doughy, like an under-risen pizza crust. I did like the mango lassi. All in all, I’m not sure why this place gets such high ratings. Sure, it’s homey, and the owners seem very nice, but the food is just bad. Not recommended.

BTW, they use the dark meat of chicken, in case you’re wondering. I recommended this place to a client. I didn’t know but he doesn’t eat dark meat, nor did he read the small print. Long story short, he ended up with a sack of take-out all the way home, only to dump it out. Both of us felt pained — me for missing this point, and him because of anticipation and hunger!!!

This place looks like shit, but their food is the shit!!! One of the best Indian food I had in LALA Land. Chicken masala is my favorite, garlic naan, all different kinds of curry. Just thinking about it makes me wanna go. A small family own store, and they are extremely friendly.

After reading so many good reviews of this place I was really hoping I finally found a great Indian restaurant in LA. Sadly, I’m going to have to keep looking. I’m not opposed to complete hole in the wall décor(as long as I can get the food to go), but when I walked in there was a dirty empty shopping cart parked in front of the counter. Okaaay… I can also live without greasy old menus being taped to the windows as a general pet peeve(is it that expensive to change out the menus once in a while?), but the main problem for me is that the sauces are just way too sweet. I live in Philly where even mediocre Indian food isn’t that bad, and I’ve eaten Indian food in a lot of different places(not including India), but I have to say this food was not like any Indian food I’ve ever had. I got Chicken Tikka Masala which I order all the time. The chicken pieces were really good, but the sauce tasted almost like Chinese sweet and sour sauce. That’s fine I guess if that’s what you want, but it isn’t how I like it. We also ordered Saag with Chana which again was really sweet and lacking the traditional Indian spices I’m used to. The samosas were good if a bit greasy. The nan was a lot thicker and more doughy than any I’ve ever had, but nan really doesn’t travel well to begin with. I was disappointed in the clumpy white rice and agree that a basmati option would be good. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. The woman at the counter was really nice. I’d say if you like Indian food on the sweet side give this place a try. If you want a traditional spicy flavor, this is probably not going to be for you.

Overall, this hole-in-the-wall place serves amazing indian food at pretty decent prices. I ordered the chicken vindaloo with naan(around $ 10, as I recall) and it was delicious! Very savory and slightly spicy, with tender chicken. The naan was a little doughy but not in a bad way. The meal also came with a small bowl of fresh veggies, which went nicely with the meat and potatoes in the vindaloo. Would recommend take-out, as the décor is nothing special and it’s in a run-down strip mall(but free parking is a big plus!). I drove halfway across LA to meet friends here for lunch, and it was totally worth it!

Being an indian I can tell that this place is so delicious. I love the décor and the service here is always welcoming and friendly. We went here with a large party. It is a little bit pricey for the portion size but the quality of food is great. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, the saag, lettuce wraps, and the garlic naan all of which were very tasty. I would definitely come back.

I came here while I was visiting from New York, and looking to take a local friend out for some Indian food. We Unilocaled this spot to try, and I’m not at all disappointed that we did. The portions were HUGE, and it was really yummy. I got the lamb vindaloo lunch special, and she got the chicken tikki masala. I didn’t try hers, but she seemed to really like it. we also tried the garlic naan, and the cheese naan. Both were a tad too crispy for my preference, but I’m being extremely picky here. The rest was delicious, the staff was really nice and helpful. It was a small space that fits maybe 50 people full. The prices were cheap, and I would definitely recommend going here if you want some really good, cheap, Indian food in West Hollywood.

Susie Y. and I were craving some good Indian food so we drove 30 min across LA to go to this hole-in-the-wall family-owned Indian restaurant! It’s super small and there’s not much ambience at all but the food was great and the service was so friendly and sweet! :) We ordered the chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. I thought the chicken curry was just alright, nothing too special going on there, but the chicken tikka masala was DELICIOUS!!! MMM I would definitely get this again! I highly recommend it! The garlic naan was also great but not the best I’ve ever had. It was a little too«bready» and not as «chewy» as I would have wanted. Our food also came with big plates of white rice for each of us as well as a bowl of soupy cooked veggies which remained pretty much untouched haha. Prices are reasonable and there’s plenty of parking in the lot! I think this place would be more ideal to order take-out because there’s not much ambience goin’ on but overall, great authentic Indian food!

The best Indian food in town, hands down. As everyone else has said, it tastes more homemade, so if you’re expecting the standard curry recipe, you’re not going to get it. The Chicken Tikka Masala is a lot sweeter than in other places, but it’s delicious. My favorite is the Chicken Vindaloo. I get vindaloo every time I go to any Indian restaurant and I still haven’t found one that matches Bombay’s. The place is family owned and operated, and they’re great people, and always remember my order and the people I come with. If you love Indian food, you owe it to yourself to try this place. I guarantee you’re not going to find another place that cooks like they do.

The best Indian restaurant in LA. The food is very homemade. My favorite dish is Saag with spinach. Just writing this makes me wanna eat it! The vegetable of the day is amazing, too. Naan is very good, too. I can just eat it itself. It’s got natural flavor already. The price is really fair to what they got.

On the way to a movie, my g’friend and I were craving hole-in-the-wall Indian food, and Bombay Grill totally delivered. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala; Chicken Korma; Raita; and Naan. OMG — the Naan is the best! So fresh!!! My friend saw the owner press it out in the back right before he baked it! It doesn’t get any better than this — thin and crunchy in some places, soft and thick and chewy in others. I’ve never had naan this fresh before! I love, love, loved the sweetness of the Tikka(thinking about it makes my mouth water all over again! slurp) The Korma was ehhh. so-so, my potato wasn’t completely cooked through. The Raita, however was deliciously light. It was fresh with lots and lots of still crunchy julienned cucumber strips and that clean fresh yogurt taste(not the kind that you can taste has been sitting around in the fridge for days and the cucumber is soggy and the yogurt is too thick — ewwww) I will definitely come back and/or pick up again. Not really recommended for dine in. I can’t say much for ambiance but sometimes the food just speaks for itself, to heck with everything else.

I really like this place. Ended up eating here because I work around the corner. An old, not so fancy mini-mall. An old, not so pretty restaurant. Only a few chairs, and some beat up copies of US and People Magazine. You walk up to the counter and order dishes like Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka and Lamb Stew. They serve the best bread I’ve had. But their rice is somewhat mediocre and not the usual high quality basmati. The entrees are plentiful and inexpensive. The chicken tikka was delicious, sauteed in lemon and oil and served on some fresh vinegary lettuce leaves. Peas and carrots in curry sauce. White rice. Lots of hot, doughy, perfectly toasted warm bread. Inexplicably, there is a buffet serving table in the front where you pay. But no food in the buffet. The cooking is done in back and then they bring it out to you. Really homely décor. Very friendly people.

I wouldn’t have known this place existed if it weren’t for the recommendation of two co-workers. An inconspicuous hole in the wall in the Trader Joe’s plaza, this local gem has kept me coming back for more. Despite its seedy appearance, the servings of homestyle Indian food are plenty and flavorful. It’s the type of authentic food you’d expect your Indian friend’s mom to feed you. In fact, you’ll often find the owners’ children hanging out there(as mentioned in the previous posting). My favorites include the chicken korma(a savory and creamy curry), tandoori chicken(if you’re feeling unadventurous), chicken pakora(better than McNuggets), and the garlic naan, which I can never pass up an extra serving of. All meals are also served with a side of their«vegetable of the day,» a medley of random veggies prepared with spicy(as in HOT) Indian spices. If you are looking for some good Southern Indian food and aren’t looking to impress a hot date, I would definitely recommend this place.
