This place is HORRIBLE. I had the philly roll. For one I didn’t know it would be raw salmon because it did not specify. Secondly the customer service was horrible, did not get a thank you, is there anything else you would like? Nothing. My visit was the 1st and for SURE the last. A waste of 12.00

I felt that for the look of the place and the prices on their menu I would be getting some bomb Japanese food but thats just wast the case here. The food was not bad at all I just don’t feel that it was worth the high price. The service wasn’t anything to brag about but I don’t really care much about that. If your close to this place and need to fill that sushi craving I would recommend you give it a shot. However if you have the time to drive somewhere else then you wouldn’t be missing out on much.

The sakee was warm but the sushi was kind of dry. I got the kamikazee which was pretty ok but a bit too spicy. My friend had the rainbow which was t dry according to him. The waitress was not very friendly and kind of rushed of out of the restaurant. They should improve their customer service.

The sushi«chefs» at the bar are horribly rude, for no reason at all. The hostess and servers are also rude and have no concept of seating strategy or customer service. Their sushi bar seating rules don’t make sense. No loyalty to regular customers. Shitty fish. Don’t bother coming here, these people suck.

My boyfriend took me to a movie and dinner on May 7th for an early Mother’s Day. The day was great, the movie was great, and we decided to try the Kyoto Sushi near the theatre on Fallbrook. We entered the restaurant and it was almost empty at 3:15 in the afternoon. No one greeted us, not one smile as we entered. The chefs and waitress were curt and rude. I ordered tea and an appetizer while looking at the menu. The waitress Plopped a cup of tea in front of me, and then Plopped the appetizer down in front of me. No smile, not one word! When the chef asked«what do you want» rudely, that was the last straw, we walked out. This place is unattractive, the people are rude and we will not be returning

Will not be returning. This is the second time I’ve ordered take-out and they’ve forgotten to include something in my order. I could have opened up my bag and looked through my order to check, but I shouldn’t have to. This place is a joke.

Stopped coming here a long time ago due to sushi quality. Tried it again today and got food poisoning. Just my luck. The sushi is the worst. Had three rolls for all you can eat and felt like I was going to die. Save yourself and don’t eat sushi from here. Way better sushi spots than kyoto. Prices suck too especially for bad quality sushi.

We’ve been coming here for years. This place use to be bangin’. Good sushi and good sushi chefs. We’d do Saki bombs with the chefs and they’d hook us up with generous portions of fish. But I digress, this place has officially flushed itself down the toilet. Better make it a double flush because this place is a big turd now! All the comments about all rice and no actual sushi is dead on. We order to go, and the price changes everytime. We took some family members last month, and half the items we asked for, they were out of. WTF!?! How does a sushi bar run out of fish? My daughter asked for lemonade, and you guessed it, they were out of that too. We left and went next door to Phở So 1 and were glad we did. Luckily Phở didn’t run out of noodles. Fast forward to today, the wife orders food to go and I pick up. She sees the receipt and immediately calls back and asks why is the price so high. They tell us that the menu prices on Unilocal do not match the actual price in the restaurant. Seriously? You lost a customer that has been coming for +8 years. There’s not a plunger big enough to save your business.

GREATCHEFS. Okay customer service. Took forever to get refills even though they weren’t busy at all. The lady must have came out about 5 times, looked at our plates(too see if we were done) and walked away. Maybe we should’ve asked? Finally we were asked if we wanted refills before we left. The rolls also had a lot of rice but the food was good.

As soon as I walked in there was a strong fishy smell :(the food tasted the same as the smell… I love albacore sashimi and this is by far the worse albacore sashimi with onions that Ive ever had… Plus the waitress wasn’t very nice when I told her that it is my first time at Kyoto Sushi and I needed some help with the menu… Basically I’m never coming back here ever again.

This place is one of my favorite sushi places when I visit topanga mall and want a light choice of a meal. Never disappoints! Very good customer service and their sushi is amazing! Will be back again!

As soon as you walk into this pale green cheaply decorated sushi bar you know something is up. The sushi tastes just as it looks. The rolls are extremely chunky and frankly don’t satisfy the palette at all. It didn’t taste fresh or have the nice blend of flavors or have any nice punch to it. I wouldn’t spend my money again on these rolls or at this sushi bar. The gloomy vibe of the sushi bar clings and doesn’t provide that nice experience to the customer. The beef teriyaki had no flavor, had a strange texture, and once again was not fresh. Don’t even get me started on the salad that came along with it… The lemonade and green tea tasted like fish tank water. I’d say you’re better off going somewhere else.

Been coming for years — Sushi is always good– but when you spend $ 200+ and the service is bad brings down the entire experience. Guess it’s time to start looking for a new neighborhood sushi place that appreciates locals.

The only place where I didnt want to eat any more sushi and I wasnt even full. Even though its all you can eat, believe me you wont want to eat after you take your first bite. Absolutely disgusting and the staff is rude. Avoid at all cost

Maybe a four stars but I want to boost these guys– great experience, awesome service, delicious rolls, definitely coming back. Unique rolls with jalapeños were awesome and I liked everything we got.

We came here for our second meal in a few weeks. The first time the service was slow but we had a lot to talk about, so we didn’t mind so much. Unfortunately the food came out very unevenly so some of us sat while others ate. We decided to try it one more time, especially because it’s in a nice little mall area to walk around afterwards. Turned out to be the worst food decision in a long time. Ordering was fine. However, there was about a 20 to 25 minute variation in time between when people got their food. So some were finished when others were just receiving their meals. One diner never even received her order. Nobody had drinks refilled, plates removed, etc. Whenever a new dish was brought to the table, the waitstaff didn’t know where it went. This is very basic food service 101. The worst part of the whole thing was that no one ever apologized, and there wasn’t anyone to talk to about it. The sushi chef angrily said that it was coming, when asked. And because we were a party of 9, the tip was added on already. We decided to vote with our wallets — and just go somewhere else next time.

First, this is an all you can eat joint. So if you are looking for premium sushi this is not the place. The yellowtail is of bad quality. Just look at it, not supposed to look cooked. For the first time in my life I did not want to eat any more sushi, it all looked so old and slimy. The sushi chefs are rude, this place will be out of business soon. It’s down right disappointing.

I have been a regular customer at this Kyoto ever since it opened over 10 years ago. I love the fish and the staff has always treated me well and has always welcomed me into their restaurant. Not on this particular night… A friend and I last week parked the car around 9:40pm and were about to go eat at the Vietnamese restaurant next door to Kyoto. I noticed Kyoto’s «Open» sign was brightly lit and decided to spontaneously go eat at Kyoto. I was looking forward to a delicious sushi dinner and another positive experience. Instead, we were instantly greeted with plenty of resistance in regards to us even having the notion of eating dinner here. We were told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. I responded by saying we would definitely order quickly, eat quickly and probably pay and leave by 10:05pm. The sushi chef said«No, we cannot do it… sorry.» Unbelievable!!! I was extremely angry that we were treated this way! Why open until 10pm if you are going to just persuade customers that walk in before 10pm to turn around and leave? Why don’t you post the actual time that you close, which is probably more like 9pm? We ended up going to the Vietnamese restaurant which also was near it’s closing time. Unlike Kyoto though, Phở So 1 warmly and graciously greeted us and welcomed us into their restaurant. We ended up having a great and satisfying dinner and were done by 10:05pm. I could not help but still feel disrespected by Kyoto’s employees. As we were leaving, we noticed everyone at Kyoto had indeed gone home and the lights were all turned off. Great job Kyoto staff, you clocked out at what appeared to be moments after the restaurant was suppose to stop serving customers, 10pm. Most other establishments, would have started closing down everything, cleaning up and breaking down equipment at 10pm… but not Kyoto, they do it at around 9pm and spend the next hour chasing away customers who otherwise would’ve spent money in the restaurant. Money that would have paid the labor cost of these selfish employees for their last two hours of work. Fyi Kyoto, when a highly successful restaurant closes at 10pm… the employees usually are done with their work and clocked out by 1045−11pm, NOT10:02PM!!! I welcome any attempts by the owner or the manager to contact me to resolve things with me. I want to continue dining at Kyoto, but they will need to either honor their current posted closing time or change it to an earlier, more accurate closing time. 10+ years of loyal patronage from me and this is how it might end? Really?

The chicken teriyaki was over cooked and dry. The tonkatsu was very good and the salad was fresh. The sashimi was sliced very thin. The salmon was quite fresh but the tuna appeared to be frozen prior. They won’t accept the Unilocal coupons for the lunch combos but that wasn’t stated anywhere. Looks like they just make up restrictions as they go along. They would have been better off accepting the coupon as I would have given it back in the tip and not be annoyed by the arbitrary rule change.
