Second Reading 2 located near 202 is completely different than The Second Reading Bookstore on Church Street in the town of West Chester. On Church Street, I have always enjoyed looking for books. The only drawback is the street parking. Second Reading 2 is the opposite. The manager is odd and suspicious of customers because her real interest is selling books on Amazon. Who wants to patronize a store that only wants to sell rejects? The people who volunteer to work there are very nice and knowledgeable. Bottom line: Don’t bother with Second Reading 2. Go to the store in downtown West Chester.

I have been a customer of Second Reading II for at least three years now, and have found and purchased many wonderful books there. It had been a pleasure to donate to a charity through simply engaging in one of my favorite past-times — reading. I’m a total bibliophile and have spent more money at this store than I care to admit. As of today, however, I decided that I will never set foot in that store again. The last few times I visited I was treated with great disrespect and suspicion for no apparent reason. I was interrogated repeatedly as to whether I re-sell the books I purchase there, my ID was scrutinized, and I was even criticized for buying too many books! In some situations like this, one might consider discussing this problem with the manager… but the manager was one of the people being rude! I was forgiving the first few times this behavior occurred, given that the staff are all or mostly volunteers. After today, however, I will buy my books elsewhere. The book selection changes almost daily, and sometimes you can find decent books there, but not always — and not enough to continue shopping at a place that insults its customers. I definitely do not recommend this book store. You can find even better prices at Good Will without being harassed… or dare I say it, on Amazon.

I love getting lost in here. I love that I can purchase a pile of books and lose maybe a $ 20 bill. I found some awesome books related to Jackie Kennedy in this store and had a grand chat with the man behind the counter about this fascinating first lady. There is meter parking on the street. I don’t care about the limited space or the mess in the store — it’s part of the charm.

The only negative thing about this used bookstore is it’s lack of space. It’s crammed into a 700 ft location, which can make browsing a challenge. I found plenty of science fiction and it even has an «espionage» section. I don’t understand why one of the recent reviewers was complaining about the abundance of old titles. There are plenty of vintage books, but the genre fiction is mostly of recent print. This is to be expected at a bookstore next to a state university.

Yeah, most of the selection looks as old as the seniors the profits benefit, but luckily great books don’t have an expiration date. It’s a very small, cramped space and usually a mess… boxes of books sprawled on the floor… but it’s always worth a stop and look-see. DIRT cheap, the books in here are. It’s run by volunteers, most of whom are very kindly elders that you secretly want to hug. As long as you don’t treat this shop like your neighborhood Border’s and go in hell-bent on finding a specific title, you won’t come away disappointed.

This business supports a charity in the area, a senior center, I think. The variety of books is pretty good — there is a large selection of hardback general fiction that isn’t romance or scifi, and the trade paperback selection is good as well. I prefer the used book stores that are more than mostly normal paperbacks, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The history/politics section is pretty big too, perhaps reflecting the age of the clientele.
