Man, the East Coast is not the West Coast. The slightly unexpected manifestation of coastal differences I experienced was the distinct lack of places to get a decent latte. On a recent trip to West Chester I discovered that my options for coffee were limited to: Wawa, 7 – 11, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, and precisely one independent coffee shop in town. I had to settle for Wawa on the way back from the airport, which was the first time I’ve had convenience store coffee in about 15 years. I had to go to Starbucks twice during my trip. I tend to avoid Starbucks in Seattle, but no one would bring me into town just for a darn latte. I don’t know how anyone lives this way.
