We used Baked Impressions for our wedding cake this past Saturday(10÷17÷15) and boy was is good! Not only was it beautifully crafted, but we received so many compliments on how good the cake was. We ordered at buttercream frosting with regular white cake and a lemon frosting and raspberry jam layer. It was unique but likable to all palettes. We were very impressed and so happy we chose BI for our special day!

Baked impressions? More like bad impressions! When entering baked impressions I was looking for a wedding anniversary cake, nothing big just for six people. My sister and I were greeted promptly, but with a bad attitude. We were told on a Wednesday that it was too short of notice to make a 6 inch round cake for Saturday. The fact that it was too short of notice was beyond me. You are a bakery and shouldn’t have a problem producing something so small, if it was a wedding cake I would understand. After a long immediate explanation of why she couldn’t do it she reluctantly agreed to do it, but she told us exactly what she was going to do, leaving no option to us. We walked out. She gave us the IMPRESSIONS she didn’t even want our business and that we weren’t worthy of her time. Therefore, it definitely made us say we weren’t coming back.

I feel a bit strangely about writing this review because I haven’t actually eaten anything from this bakery. I saw it had good reviews and I visited their website and glossed over it before going in to the store. It was a weekend, early afternoon. The store looks quite new and there is a small area for kids to play which is cool. I had wanted to pick up a treat for a family function. I guess I assumed as a bakery, they actually make cakes. Wrong. They only make special order cakes. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a cake but they don’t make tortes, cheesecakes, or anything else. Literally the only thing they actually have in the bakery that you can purchase are brownies and cupcakes. So this was definitely my fault for not doing more research before going there. Now, they are apparently open until the early evening on the weekends and this was the early afternoon. They had almost nothing left. There were some cupcakes and that was about it. The lady behind the counter was on her phone talking really loudly so I was just kind of looking around for a bit. Finally, she got off the phone and seemed really irritated by my presence. I asked if she had other types of desserts in the back and she said no, I have to special order something if I want it. So basically it seems like the deal with this place is: if you want something, special order it. It’s not someplace where you can just stop by and pick something up unless you want cupcakes.

We practically have the cake boss right here in our neighborhood. Here is a great place for your quick cupcake but also for the special occasion cake. For our daughter, we ordered a baptism cake that turned out to be beautiful, absolutely delicious, and easy to pickup. When we ordered it, they gave us the option to pick from some of their designs, design our own, or bring in a picture of what we would like. We chose for the latter and received a spitting image of what was in the photo. I wish I could remember the flavors they offered, but it was too many. We really had almost any choice of flavors we wanted. We decided on lemon cake with strawberry butter cream frosting. After the first piece, I had ulterior motives in hoping people didn’t want any cake. I wanted it all to myself. I loved the taste. The lemon was perfect and the strawberry was not overly sweet and complimented the lemon exquisitely. I’ve never really been a fan of fondant, but I would order it again hands down from here. It didn’t have that gummy texture that I’ve had before. In addition, they had these candy pearls on the top that just popped in visual appearance and texture. Lastly was the convenience of picking it up. I unfortunately wouldn’t be able to pick it up when they were open. No problem, they are connected to Market Square and keep your cake with them. They have longer hours than Baked Impressions, giving you a larger window for pickup. The cake was reasonably priced and I can’t wait for the next occasion to give me a reason to order a cake.

I have been in contact with Baked Impressions because my wedding venue recommended them for my wedding cake. Communication has been somewhat spotty, and I was a little flabbergasted when I was told that it was $ 25 for a tasting. I don’t mind paying something, but that seemed a bit excessive. I was also told that I could come in and pick up some cupcakes to try. Well, I’m glad I did; I stopped by after work today to pick some up, and my total for 4 cupcakes(red velvet, chocolate with chocolate buttercream, chocolate with strawberry buttercream, and vanilla with vanilla buttercream) was $ 12.00. Much more reasonable. Now, I’m a spoiled Royal Oaker, with easy access to the amazing Taste Love Cupcakes(yummo), so I was trying to keep an open mind, but I am just not a fan. Although not a professional baker, baking is my very favorite hobby, and let me tell you, Unilocalers… I can make a mean cupcake. Sadly, much better than these cupcakes. They were an odd combo of dry and heavy/dense. The buttercream, on the other end of the spectrum, was soooo fluffy and light it barely had a taste, minus the strawberry buttercream(which to me, tasted very fake). It almost tasted like pure whipped butter. I was looking forward to the yellow/vanilla cake, which is my absolute favorite. So disappointing — it just felt like empty calories. There was not even a vanilla-y taste. True they may do some amazing custom work — I browsed their book while I was waiting for my cupcakes, but I’m not willing to pay their rather high prices for really sub-par cake.

Marc and Olga were absolutely amazing in making my wedding cake. I was planning from out of town and they made everything so easy. We set up a tasting where my husband and I were able to try many flavors of cakes, frostings and fillings. They walked us through every detail and created a cake we absolutely loved. The final product was elegant, decadent, and was everything we could have imagined and more. I am now going back to them to have them make another custom cake for a baby shower for a friend. I know we’ll be just as pleased!
