Trail Dog Running, LLC, is a wonderful organization in West Bend, WI, that put on one of the most pleasant — and stunning — low-key trail runs I’ve ever experienced. The Luna-Tics Race Series had four distances ranging from ultramarathon to 18K through part of the Ice Age Trail. Stunning, beautiful, forests, lush farmland — at one point, racers ran through a field of wildflowers on either side and I joked that we’d be coming to the Emerald City pretty soon. The race director was instantly warm, outgoing, helpful, and all of the volunteers were great — encouraging and supportive all the way. The race was very small, but that lent a wonderful low-key coziness to the race that was a real joy. The course was an out-and-back through a variety of terrains with a lot of uphill and downhill, but never one thing for very long(that is, no uphill that lasted for mile after mile), and was exceedingly well-marked the whole way. In short, what a great race!
