The Tattooed Dog

I love this place. I have tried almost the entire menu and have yet to be disappointed. By now all the waitresses know me as well as Josh the owner. Cant wait for the move and the new menu items.

i’m in town visiting family and they suggested this spot as a close place for a quick meal after a long day of travel for all of us. i had not read the other reviews before we went, and i’m kind of glad i didn’t. seems to me like this can be a hit or miss type of a place. thankfully, our meal was largely a hit.
i will say, i’m not a huge fan of the burger places that only do «pink or no pink?» i understand why they do it, but i like my burgers extremely rare, and it’s just not the same when it’s more cooked. however, if «pink or no pink?» is their business model, then that’s the way it is.
while the menu itself isn’t huge, the variety of the toppings from item to item are enough to make you feel like it’s a little tough to make a decision. my brother and his wife had been here before, so they both went with trusty old favorites– the benedicto, and the boring. my s.o. is a huge lover of hot dogs, so he got the big kahuna. i went with the maui burger.
everyone’s food was prepared correctly, and arrived quickly. the burgers are large (i took half of mine home), and the hot dogs are MASSIVE. i mean, even for a foot-​long, these still seemed bigger than any i’ve seen before. my maui burger had great savory/​sweet flavor, but the teriyaki glaze seemed to be missing the advertised wasabi, and it lacked a balance of acidity, over all. some pickled red onions or pickles would have gone a long way here. while no one else commented, all of the fries arrived room temperature. i got a side salad instead, so i had no complaints, but the few fries i snuck from my s.o. were disappointing.
all in all, prices were reasonable, service was quick and very friendly, and the food was mostly good. if i lived in the area, i would definitely be back.

Really good with great prices. Nacho app was very filling covered with cheese and toppings. Foot long hotdogs were excellent! Was not able to finish the meals. Wished I saved room for dessert

Hands down some of the best burgers in STL area. If you know your burgers, then must try that place!
Yes the place is not fancy, the tables are balanced using paper towels, and nothing special about their other food items, but you won’t care once you bite into the burger. Very delicious !

I went because of the reviews, and was a bit disappointed. It smells like an ashtray and that just ruins even the best of food. The chili is good, but they had no crackers! I went to order the soup of the day and she pointed to the chili on the menu? I said why do you list soup in a separate area of the menu and she shrugged it off. I had the Philly cheese steak, and you just can’t call it a Philly if you use chunks of steak. The pretzel could be better too.
I wanted to try all the burgers which look great, but I can’t go back because of that cigarette smell. I am sure many love this type of venue, but it just isn’t for me.

Second time here so I thought I’d write a review. Nice comfortable place to eat. Food is great and so is the service. Their burgers was great and my wife loved the Philly. Recommend for a nice casual place.

The inked fries! Delicious. I got the burger with the pineapple and it was ok. (Red robin’s version is better) loved the setup and the service. Very tiny hole in the wall place.

Some of the best burgers and dogs I have ever had. Really raised the bar for others. I won’t eat a burger from anywhere else now. Easily the best in Wentzville by far. Good job guys!

Love this place for a great unique burger! Yum! The benedicto is my favorite with a over easy egg on top :)
The blueberry dessert with homemade crumble is also a favorite!

**First Timers**
Order: Inked Nachos, Porkonator, and Vegetarian Bella.
Our waitress was knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly, however the restaurants small size and one tv placed above the bar make it easy for the staff to become complacent. The food is very average with creative names to make the menu seem fun and unique. Frozen thawed Steak Fries, Dry and Flavorless Burgers (though I requested some pink), and quit possibly the worst nachos (Inked Nachos) I’ve ever tried! 99 times out of 100 my wife and I would prefer a ‘mom and pop’ type of establishment over a large chain, however 100 times out of 100 I would select a place like Steak n Shake over the Tattooed Dog simply because it’s the same quality at half the cost!

I went here on a Friday afternoon with two of my friends. My buddy knows the Wentzville area a lot and thought this place would be a cool place to try. The place is rather small but is very clean throughout. I like how everything is organized as well as the seating. The tables are a little close together unless you sit by the window. Overall the atmosphere here is pretty sweet.
The food was decent but didn’t knock my socks off at all. I got the Herb Crusted Roast Pork sandwich. The sandwich overall was huge with a lot of bacon piled up which I loved. I thought there wasn’t enough pork in the sandwich because the bread was overpowering. It took me a few bites to get past just chewing on bread. When I say this sandwich is large, I mean it! The fries exceeded expectations for me and were the best part of my meal by far. The were perfectly cooked and could tell they were home made. Next time I come in I’ll try a regular burger, might have a different result.
The service was okay. It was kind of annoying when my friend had to ask for a straw from the server when she said she would bring one ten minutes before. There was really nobody coming around for refills or anything. The food did come pretty fast which I liked. They were pretty busy at the time and was impressed.
Overall I might be back to try something else but it’s not the first thing on my agenda. 4 stars.

My friends and I went to The Tattooed Dog based on a recommendation from one of my other friends. It’s ironic because I knew the owner of the previous restaurant in the same building. Although they were good friends you just had a feeling they wouldn’t last. I feel the exact opposite about this place.
It really takes something different to draw people into a building whose exterior is as cosmetically challenged as this place. Inside is a different story though. Chalk boards are in and they do a great job utilizing one that takes up the entire wall.
The service was pretty fast as we were seated and had our orders taken promptly. I ordered the Benedicto which is a burger served on a pretzel bun with a fried egg, bacon American cheese and what I think was a garlic aioli along with spring mix. It was very good, the burger was cooked to perfection as well as the egg. The bun stayed intact the entire time (which is huge because it would have been a mess otherwise) and the fries were spot on.
One of my friends got the pork chop sandwich and the other got the BLTA, both were slightly less impressed than I was but in terms of my food I couldn’t ask for better. A deserving 5 stars.

I LOVED my burger here. The price is just perfect for the amount of food and quality/​flavor that you get. Fun little dive place.
So much better than any chain restaurant I’ve been to burgers.

Clean restaurant with a creative décor and menu. Very artistic, but I didn’t go for the art. Unfortunately the burgers didn’t live up to the premium reputation and even the patty didn’t compare well to the big chain restaurants that offer gourmet burgers. The Porkinator was supposed to have six pieces of bacon, but was merely bacon crumbles. The bun was dry as if it had been out for a while. Overall disappointing.
Our server was friendly and attentive, but getting seated was challenging. Watched them seat a party of 7 with only 3 people present that essentially shut down the rest of their seating activities while people were lined up out the door. Maybe growing pains, but it seemed like they were struggling with customer volume.

Awesome Burgers, Good Service, Clean Place.
Came in for lunch based on the recommendation from a dear local friend. I had the Jalapener (well done) and it was delish! It came with side of home made steak fries equally delish! They also sell micro beers, which is pretty cool. I will definitely come back to try other items on their menu next time I am in this neck of the woods.

Stopped here while road tripping and we were glad we did! This place has some great burgers. I had the Dubliner and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even the sweet seasoning on the fries worked well.
My lady friend got the BLTA and loved it as well. Generous portion of avocado.
Even the kids meals were a good value. Bring the kids!
What sets this place apart is the bread! The pretzel roll on the Dubliner was out of this world. The house French roll on the BLTA was also fantastic. Next time I’m totally rocking a pretzel/​beer cheese.

I’ve eaten here about a dozen times in the last two months. Great place to get a unique burger or hot dog. The food is really good and priced appropriately. I’ve tried all their burgers and my favorite has been the porkonator, then the Maui. Great for lunch I was in and out in 30 minutes.
What I really like is that it’s an independently owned restaurant in Wentzville as opposed to most others in the area, and that it has it’s own unique twist on an American Classic the hamburger. Support a local business owner and try it for yourself!
