Overall, the food was good and the servers were attentive, but the bill was a bit higher than I would have liked, the burger selection was(surprisingly!) limited, and parking can be a bit of a challenge if it’s busy downtown. === THEGOOD === Food. While it wasn’t quite out-of-this-world quality food, the items we ordered were still delicious. For appetizers, my wife, kiddo, and I split the Citrus Chipotle Wings, Cheese Sticks, and Sourdough Pretzel Braid. All three were a great way to start the meal and we’d probably try each of them again. The Pretzel Braid gets an extra thumbs up here for being just $ 4.95! For our meal, my wife had the Pineapple BLT, our kiddo had the Kid’s Cheese Quesadilla, and I had a Build-Your-Own Burger. Again, everything was good and worth having again. Servers. The servers were attentive and made sure the food came out hot despite having to also service a very large group at the same time. === THEBAD === Prices. Sure, we ordered three appetizers and that«helped» our bill be a bit more on the bigger side than usual, but I still feel like the prices are a bit more than they could/should be. For instance, a plain burger(Build-Your-Own beginning) is $ 5.95 and fries as sides start at $ 1.50 and go up from there. This seems to be more of a trend in the area, but there are other neighborhood burger places that I can get out of as a family for right around $ 20 no problem and this is more in the $ 25 – 30 range. Burger Variety. It’s REALLY weird. They have«The Big Jake» but I don’t care for the grilled onions and jalapenos. They have the«Blue Coyote» but I don’t care for the bleu cheese, grilled onions, or sauteed mushrooms. They have… well, they have a lot of specialty burgers and each of them has a main ingredient that I don’t care for. It’s REALLY weird because I’ve NEVER experienced that before. There’s always at least one specialty burger I go for, but not here. WEIRD! Parking. There’s not much parking in the downtown area. Period. If it’s busy downtown, you might have a hard time finding somewhere to park. That said, we were able to park right in front of the restaurant, so it can happen.

I’ve never had an experience this bad, the manager was rude, nasty and a liar. I ordered a 24 ounce beer to start and was given a not full 16 ounce glass, the waitress said the keg just kicked so this was all that was left. No apologies, no offer to get another beer that I might be interested in. I took one sip and it was flat and old, I told the waitress this and the manager came over and said that the beer was fine and that I had to pay for it because that was the law in Virginia. She more or less made me feel like there was no reason for us to order food because we were not welcome in her restaurant. How is this place still open in 2016? Avoid it!

Let me start by saying that my friend and I(both age 34) were in town for the night after a day of skiing at nearby Wintergreen. I am a NC resident, which will mean some more shortly. We had done some research and were looking forward to Jake’s and the great burgers we had read about in the review. What transpired was one of the oddest experiences I have had in a bar. When we arrived at Jake’s there was only one other group inside. The entire bar open and we sat at the bar. Ordered our drinks and the bartender requested our ID’s. We provided them and she turns to me and advises me that she cannot serve me because my driver’s license was chipped in the corner and is invalid in the state of VA. Keep in mind, the chip was extremely tiny and no information was missing due to the chip. Birth date, gender, height, eye color, photo ALL visible clearly. I asked a few times, was she sure and explained that I had drinks earlier in the day at the resort(in VA) and never in the 13 years of being legally able to drink have I heard this or had a problem. She abruptly shot down all inquires and would not serve me. This was even more shocking as the bar was essentially empty, so I would think they would want the business. As we were looking for both food and drinks, we decided to leave and try another bar in town. That bar served us without hesitation and we had a wonderful time and was happy to spend my money at their establishment. I would not recommend Jake’s to anyone as this experience was disappointing and frankly, embarrassing. Take your business to Heritage around the corner. They had wonderful staff, great drinks, and exceptional food. Had a wonderful time there.

Jakes doesn’t look like much from the outside — but once you walk through the door, you feel like everybody is your best friend! The staff is super friendly(«Welcome to Jakes!») and the burgers and fries are all top notch. They recently added Mexican food choices, and I can’t wait to try them! Everything is fresh and the prices are wallet friendly! I love Jakes!

Was in town to go skiing and decided to give this place a try based on the Unilocal reviews. Did not disappoint! Friendly atmosphere, cold beer with lots of local selections, and great prices. I had the tacos, hubby and wings and our daughter had a quesadilla. All were delicious. Tried a basket of the homemade chips as well. They came to the table warm, freshly made. Would go back again!

Had a great first experience! Ice cold craft beer on draft and great burgers, doesn’t get much better than that. Growing up on a cattle farm myself it’s a huge bonus the burger is local. It was a Friday night so They were very busy(we’re talking no tables open or seats at the bar busy) so it took a little longer, but the food was worth the wait so we didn’t mind. The atmosphere was cozy, and made you feel right at home. The service was great at the bar. Will definitely be back soon!

We visited Jakes based on the good things we had heard. We weren’t disappointed! We went on a Friday night around 6. We were the only table for most of our meal. The atmosphere was laid back with a western theme decoration. Older country/pop playing loud enough to enjoy but not overwhelming. The service was great– friendly, fast. The server was immediately ready with a kids menu and crayons for our little guy. Our food came out quickly as well. My husband ordered a burger, outlaw fries, and beer. He said his food was some of the best he had in Waynesboro. I had pineapple BLT, house made chips, and slaw. Everything was spot on(except for the coleslaw– it tasted«off». Since it was only $ 1 and we had plenty of other food, I didn’t send back– might try again next time). Price was reasonable. We will definitely be back!

I love trying local fare and this restaurant did not disappoint us in anyway. We were greeted quickly in the friendliest manner. I would go back just to feel this welcome again — Smiles! I was hooked when I heard Blake Shelton serenading me while I selected a burger, drinks and fries to tide me over as we traveled to the Greenbrier Resort. I loved the burger, fries and the drink was well mixed and refreshing after so many miles on the road. You will enjoy the interior décor, comfortable seating, friendly atmosphere and the music. When I wander back this way I intend to stop by and relax here. Enjoyable, fun and filling.

Our family eats at Jakes about once a month. The burgers are always excellent and come with homemade potato rolls. The meat is sourced from the owners own cattle farm, how awesome is that! They always have local beer on tap and a good local wine selection. They are extremely nice to our two year old son and let him pet«Ferdinand» the buffalo every time we go to eat.

«Howdy Welcome to Jake’s» is how we were greeted! Love this spot — was a «dive bar» for 35 years. The new owner took over about 2 years ago and the place is a great stop for lunch or dinner. Beer list is fab also nice wine and cocktail list. burgers are the thing to try, all the beef comes from the Shenandoah Beef Cooperative(and the husband of the owner also happens to be a farmer who is part of the coop) Yardbird cluckers with Cowgirl sauce are also nothing to sneeze at — Ambience is small town/country with a dash of funky

You absolutely can’t go wrong here. There is a huge range of prices and types of food. The staff is as friendly as can be. We went on a Monday night and felt like we were adopted into the«family». Beef is to die for. Portions are great. The food is presented beautifully and everything is fresh and wholesome. It is decorated to commemorate a fallen soldier, but in a delightful, uplifting way. Jake is proud of this place, I am sure! Veterans Discounts, of course!
