Amazing food!!! I highly recommend this place! We got take out and the amount of food you get for the money is a lot! Three people were able to eat 2 different plates(2 guys and a girl). I will definitely be going back very soon! Such a hidden gem!

Ono is amazing. The owners are friendly and relaxed, the selection of Hawaiian goods is fantastic. The saimin is out of this world and a must try; the carrot slaw is pretty great as well.

This place is so cool! Hidden away in an unassuming store front is this little piece of paradise. We popped in mid afternoon and were immediately greeted by the owner and offered some refreshments. The thai tea with pineapple juice is a winner. And much to our delight, throughout our meal we were brought… FREEREFILLS! I didn’t even know that was a thing anymore. I had the tuna poke plate– tasted fresh and delicious. The sides of sticky rice, slaw, and the macaroni salad were very complimentary to the flavor of the meat. My partner had the combo plate. The meat was flavorful, and tender. They have a variety of hot sauces to compliment the meat but even on it’s own it was quite tasty. Both of our servings were very hearty and neither of us cleaned our plates. There are only a couple tables inside this tiny joint, so prepare yourself to share a table with strangers(which we did) or take your food to go if they are busy. The service was wonderful, with the owner checking in on us several times and making it a really homey experience. We unfortunately didn’t save any room for dessert, but the cakes looked delectable and the store was filled with fun treats you could take with you. There is a little retail section with gimmicky Hawaiian stuff in the back which is cheesy but fun. I will definitely be back to try some other menu items!

I had to think for a while about how to rate this establishment. It’s not the tastiest food that I eat, and it’s not the least expensive, and it’s not the most refined service, but what you get here is love. Everything from the décor, to the menu, to the offerings, is done with their hearts in the right place. Coming to this restaurants is akin to going over to a friend’s house. A friend that grew up in Hawaii, and brought all sorts of goodies and techniques with him. Where what you get might not necessarily wow you with taste or presentation, but it will be cooked from real ingredients, lots of grains, fruits, veggies, with a proper serving size of meat. And it will likely be different from anything that you’ve had in any other restaurant before. The menu is varied, there’s deserts in the display case, everything can be taken to go, or eaten in what is essentially a house dining room. There’s street parking, or a municipal parking lot kiddie corner to their location. And they take credit cards without any fees. I stop here any time I’m in the region, and will keep doing this. Set your expectations correctly, and you will lovely this place. Expect the wrong experience, and you will be disapointed.

I pass this place on a regular basis and even have it in by bookmarks list. Sad I know ;(I finally remembered to come here one Sunday afternoon. I wanted something out of the ordinary and said let me try some Hawaiian BBQ style food. I originally thought this was a carry out only but they have a small seating section where you can sit down and enjoy your meal. Looking at the menu I chose the Huli Huli chicken — each of the plates comes with purple sticky rice, li-hing carrot pineapple slaw, and macaroni and potato salad with Kim Chee garnish! Also on a side note to drink I ordered the«crack» plantation iced tea which was iced tea and pineapple juice mixed. Love this combo. Very smooth and delightful. Moderately sweet and refreshing. Free refills by the way. The Huli Huli chicken was a very hearty portion size, almost didn’t finish it. It is a whole smoked Cornish hen with teriyaki honey pineapple sauce. The Cornish hen was smoked and well glazed with teriyaki sauce. The sides were pretty decent as well. The purple sticky rice was a great compliment to the chicken. Nothing really stood out for me but I will come again and dine inside to give it another go round. All in all it was something different but decent offerings. I will come back and order again to give it another try. Maybe try another plate option. Oh before I forget I also brought the passionfruit cake as well ! For one person myself I spent about $ 15. Would recommend and definitely I will be back.

This is the epitome of the kind of place you want in your neighborhood; I’m so lucky it’s in mine! Delicious food prepared with care, unique offerings for food and other products, warm service and atmosphere, and engaged & friendly owners. I’ve enjoyed Ono Kine Grindz catering at many events and FINALLY got to eat in recently. I enjoyed the Kahlua pig bento box, which was SO yummy and still sizable — I got two meals out of it! I thought the carrot and pineapple slaw was a perfect compliment(you get to pick your side). On a warm summer day or whenever you need a caffeine buzz, I highly recommend the pineapple iced«crack» tea — which truly is addictive. It’s the perfect amount of sweet and very refreshing. Can’t wait to go back and try a slice of that beautiful-looking Guava cake they were slicing last time I went in!!!

Just stopped in to grab a quick lunch while in the area. Friendly greeting, friendly customers, AMAZING food. The char-sui chicken bento lunch box is the right amount of food and I cannot get enough of the seaweed salad and the carrot/pineapple salad. If you haven’t been in to carry-out their delicious food, go! Now! Really… go immediately!

I honestly don’t know what to say about this place. It was authentic Hawaiian to my surprise. I was greeted by the owner/cook, and he made all of us feel at home. It’s a cozy yet flamboyant hawaiian themed ktichen/living room with a petit grocery inside. Yes, it was indeed strange and interesting, but I wanted more. Not to mention the smell of hickory smoked meats coming from the kitchen had my taste buds going ape nuts! Things to get for starters: The Combo Plate! It has Kahlua Smoked Shredded PIG, and Hawaiian rub smoked Chicken. And wash that down with some CRACKTEA! Yes it’s called that for a reason. POWPOWPOWPOWPOW, I had to pull out my air pistols and start shooting invisible bullets in the air. I’m really starting to love MKE foods. Keep it up with the food Milwaukee-ans!

My wife asked if we could try this Hawaiian place she has heard about in Toss so of course, why not. We settled decided on the combo platter and a side of seaweed salad. While the food it a little different than I’m used to it was great! I compared it to healthy feeling Chinese food. The only thing I didn’t care for was the carrot slaw. We will definitely be back to try the other items on the menu.

The food is so tasty. The Poke is melt in your mouth. Pineapple carrot slaw is my favorite food on the planet. We tried the Lomilomi today. It’s a tomatoey flavored salmon with onions. Just… omg. And the people that own it, I’ve never met kinder, more hospitable men in my life. We have made this a weekly hangout. A+

Summary: great find, lots of food for a great price! Take out maybe your best bet since there’s limited seating. Bright and friendly atmosphere This place is totally my jam, a hidden gem with yummy food for a great price. Came here around 12:30 after a snowy Milwaukee morning in April. What a welcome piece of sunshine! There’s only 2 places to sit, that can seat ~6 people each since this place is also a grocery store. We got the Huli Huli chicken, which was well cooked and the huli sauce was amazingly sweet. The rice was sticky just the way it should be. I wasn’t a huge fan of the carrot pineapple slaw and the macaroni salad… but I’m not a fan of slaw or macaroni salad in general. Definitely want to come back to try all the other dishes! The last star is reserved for when they get a bigger place to serve food which they def should!

Some of the best food ever can be found here! Everything is well executed and uniquely tasty! Iced tea, side dishes, desserts and adorable offerings in the store. You can’t go wrong! The place is tiny so I prefer take out!

First of all, the people that you speak to and pick-up from are the sweetest, happiest people ever and they’ve infused this happiness into their food. My husband and I have lived in Milwaukee for about five years and we are trying very hard to stop eating at our ‘favorites’ and really venture out and try places we have always wanted to try — Ono Kine Grindz is one of them! If you haven’t eaten here yet, you HAVE to. It’s Hawaiian food and the menu isn’t extensive, which is awesome, because I feel like they’ve really mastered their entrée offerings. They only do take-out, so just be aware that you’re ordering(A LOT of food) for a home dining experience. I felt like it was pretty legit food from what I can remember, but I have only been to Hawaii one time. Both times I have eaten here I have had the Grilled Salmon with the Pineapple Slaw and the Noodle salad. I have also tasted the Kalua Pig and Char Siu Chicken, which are both excellent as well. The salmon gets a ginger sauce as well as a salsa and they are two totally different, yet complimentary tastes. Each plate comes with two sides and large scoops of purple sticky rice — it really adds to the bright happiness in your meal. They also throw a little bit of kimchi in, and it’s probably some of the best, tastiest kimchi I’ve ever had. I’m not sure if it’s home made, but it’s delicious. The last time I ate here with my friend, we got the coconut cake, which is gluten free. It was deliciously light and fluffy, but not dry, and definitely got our seal of approval. My husband and I have decided that this is going be one of our new favorites for take-out when visitors come. We can’t rave enough about how good their food is, and we usually eat for two for around $ 28. Also, I haven’t yet poked around with the items they have for sale, but they do carry a small selection of market items — kimchi, cookies, etc. Next time I stop in, I will definitely check them out.

I was visiting my Mom around Christmas, and as usual, I am always looking for some new place to try and found Ono Kine Grindz. I had chicken, rice and seaweed salad. The food itself gets four stars. I was told by the owner to try the chicken by it self before putting any sauce on, and I am glad he did. The chicken had excellent flavor. I can easily say, I have never had anything like it. I wound up putting the sauce on the rice. I really liked the seaweed salad. The fifth star comes because of the owner(s). They were just the nicest people. They were friendly, patient and informative. We didn’t realize coming here that this place is mostly a take out place. However, they have one table for eating in. Yet, the service the provided was excellent, and they checked on us several times. I really enjoyed my experience at Ono Kine Grindz If you are bored of chain restaurants and think for yourself and are not manipulated by millions of dollars in TV commercials to make yourself believe you have to eat average to below average overpriced food at some chain restaurant, I am one of you. Let’s all keep supporting the true food scene in Wisconsin.

I’ve gone back a few times over the past few months for Saimin, oxtail stew, the dim sum platter, and most recently, the Portuguese Sausage and Bean Soup. Everything is still delicious. A tip on the Saimin is to take it home and let the flavors blend in the fridge for a day. Like chili and soups, the Saimin is even better the next day. The Portuguese Sausage and Bean soup I had last night really had great flavors, including a bit of spicy flavor. It was perfect for a cold January evening! There is still nothing like OKG in Milwaukee. Currently, only carry-out and catering are available. I live about 15 minutes away. The hot food has stayed hot for me and if it cools a bit, it reheats well. You can also buy items from their freezer to thaw and eat another day, not to mention the great selection of Hawaiian spices, coffee, and other products(I’m looking at you, chocolate covered macadamias). This place is a gem!

Seriously delicious, seriously welcoming, seriously economical, and seriously unique. Woah, man, hang loose! Don’t be so serious! I’m in love with this food. And the art. And the music. And the great xmas gifts I got for my dad, who lived in Hawaii for a part of his early childhood, and has never recovered. MA-HA-LO!

Wow, I have walked past this place many times and thought it was some sorta chintzy tanning salon or something crazy with its colorful sign. Stopped in based off Unilocal reviews. Thankfully other Unilocalers posted some photo’s with the food names because I was lost on the menu. The gentleman at the counter was very kind and patient while I debated what to order. He suggested ordering a combo plate and sure, why not. I went with Pig, comes with a side of rice, and decided on cabbage as my side. The cabbage side is crazy, different. I can not even really describe it to you. Tangy and spicy all in one? The meat was roasted to perfection. I loved it! I also ordered a ramen noodle soup, I cannot remember the name, I believe Rick has posted a picture with the correct name(thank you!). Excellent. Just excellent. I would suggest for two people ordering the soup and a combo plate, you can share two outstanding items. I would give this place 5 stars but there is only one small seating area otherwise this is 100% carryout and I am more often biking than driving. You walk up to the front, there is a menu and order. Wait less than 15minutes and you take this home to enjoy or if you are like me had to at least try the meat in the privacy of your own car;)

It’s about time that I write a review on this one. We have been coming here for several years and the food has been a family favorite for quite a long time. The store itself has some fun products, and if you dine in, there are several of the sauces and condiments available for you to try. There has been more than one item that we used and then had to buy on our way out. Eating in is always fun… the owners are so very friendly and provide great service. They always make sure everything is okay several times during the meal. We have tried almost everything on the menu. Our favorite special is the Kalua Pork Tacos. They are to die for and anytime they’re on the menu, we can’t pass them up. I also recommend the Saimin Hawaiian ramen. It is a terrific combination of noodles, broth, egg, Char Siu Chicken, fish cake and kimchi. The portion is huge. The combination plate is another favorite in our house, especially for takeout. Also, if they have the Char Siu Chicken salad in the summer time, I would definitely order that. Its a nice combination of vegetables, fruit and chicken with a slightly sweet dressing. I have had it for take out and dine in, and it is better to have this one dine in, as sometimes is starts to wilt before I can get it home. Other favorites include the Ahi Poke and the salmon We love the sides and the deserts, especially the papaya cake. The one dish that has been a miss for us are the Kalbi Ribs. The order we receive seemed to be a small portion for the price and they were pretty dry by the time we got them home. We have not tried them since, so I am not sure it it was just an off day. Please do not confuse this with the BBQ Pork Ribs that are sometimes on special. These are one of my husbands must have items and are so meaty and tender. Last week they also catered a party at our office and the food was spot on. All in all, we will be back many times in the future. This is one of our go to spots, as we live so close. Keep cooking guys.
