I ordered the vanilla raspberry cupcake, vanilla ho-ho(hee hee), a peanut butter cookie, and a peanut butter toffee cookie. The cupcake was angel food type cake, with whoa nelly super sugary vanilla icing, and raspberry filling. The cake was a bit dense, the raspberry filling was ok, and that icing will raise your blood sugar to critical levels. The ho-ho(hee hee) was pretty good, if you like chocolate this may be for you. I wasn’t a big fan of the cream on the inside, it was more the consistency of cool whip than a cream filling. The chocolate covering had a soft texture and rich flavor. The peanut butter cookies were the favorite of the bunch, nice PB flavor, soft chewy cookie, and good size. I will go back when I have a cookie craving and I am in the area.

Best cupcakes in Wausau. Red velvet was my first favorite but haven’t had a bad one yet! Owners and staff are great and recommend for all of their food and services.

First I wanted fondant and got butter cream. The butter cream was sprayed with color and looked horrible, it was all splotchy. It looked like a bad spray tan. The decoration was nothing like we talked about. We paid $ 75 and drove an hour each way for a cake I could have ordered in the town I live. We also ordered a dozen cupcakes. They looked better but tasted horrible. They were suppose to have filling in them. There was about 1 tsp of filling and the cake part was very very dry and tasteless. I called the manager and she said you ordered butter cream paid for butter cream. She said well there isn’t anything we can do about it now. She also said she would call me back and has not. I’m very disappointed, I won’t be going here or referring anyone either. In fact I will dissuade people from this bakery.

We ordered the salted carmel cake for a special occasion. I live in Seattle so had to call to place my order. The gentelman who helped me was extremly helpful and pleasant. He suggested the salted carmel and he was right! It was fabulous! It was filled with homemake carmel that dripped from the cake with perfect french buttercream icing. I could not recommend this bakery enough. From the service to the delicious and beautiful cake. I wish it was close by so I could order all of my cakes from them.

I wish I had more time to go back to this sweet little spot. There were so many options and good things to choose from I wanted it all? I settled for the white wedding cake cupcake. Delicious! Super moist and the frosting wasn’t overly sweet. But what got me on this was the raspberry layer between the cake and frosting. To good. I ate the whole thing. I wanted to get the home made Oreo but fell short on time. Did have their cheesecake at the Red eye brewing company and its the chocolate fix anyone needs. Great little place for your sweet tooth!

I have been to Sweet Lola’s many times. Unfortunately not too recently simply because of the inconsistency over the many times I did go. One day I would melt over how scrumptious they were, and another day, the same flavor was dry with gritty frosting. One day a friend of mine won a free 4 pack in a contest. This was a Monday. When she went in to get her free cupcakes, they were green and gold(Sunday Packer Football colors) and dry and hard(she shared them with me). They aren’t open on Sundays, or at least back then; I don’t know now. So that tells me they were made on Saturday. They are a quality bakery and obviously don’t use preservatives, which is a GOOD thing… but not when they hand out 2 day old crusty cupcakes as a promo. I mean think about it… yeah somebody got free cupcakes which we all agree is a good thing, but the impression you just left on a potential new customer was NOT a good one. The few times I had amazing cupcakes were not enough to make me return. For the price they charge, they should be consistently amazing. Also, I wanted a custom order for a twins baby shower. I went in there and spoke to a young girl. I left my business card, as she said she would think of some cute ideas and get back to me. Nobody ever bothered to call or email me.

I’ve always loved Sweet Lola’s. They have a great variety of cupcakes and bakery items for a great price. They also have homade lemonade which tastses just like the fair lemonade! The only negative thing is that they started using buttercream? I belive on most of the cupcakes and it doesn’t taste as good as the sweet frosting they used to use. But overall, the cupcakes are great!

The absolute sweetest staff! They make each and every person feel special. Not to mention the best tasting desserts in central Wisconsin! One of the few places with hand scooped ice cream. Great coffee and cider too! Thanks for making my visit a memorable one!

The few times I had amazing cupcakes there were just not good enough to justify my going back. I’m not willing to pay $ 4 for a cupcake in hopes that I didn’t hit them on an «off» day. They should be consistently amazing. And for goodness sake, stop sabotaging yourself by giving away crap just because you can’t bear to throw it away. You’re not doing yourself any favors!

Don’t get me wrong, these are good cupcakes, but I often find them to be a little dry and some of the flavor combos just don’t work for me. The cookies aren’t that great and always taste like they are old. I have tried a few of the other items like the homemade ho hos, and they tend to disappoint too. I will stick with the red velvet cupcake, that one always is great!

We dined on gryos at the mall and walking back to the car we stumbled upon Lola’s. I had previously read reviews and was excited to check it out. Everything looks so darn good you just can’t decide which one you want to eat. We chose the Turtle Cupcakes. At home with a cuppajoe we savored the flavor and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I liked the fact that it wasn’t overly sweet, it was just right. We’ll be back!

I’m updating. I’ve been back way too many times and have continued to have very good experiences. Sure, once, my red velvet cupcake was a little drier than I would have liked, but I’m a forgiving person AND it helped force me to try something else — which, really was probably the worse thing that could have happened. I’ve recently discovered their Kentuky Bourbon and PB&J cupcakes — oh sweet goodness, they are delicious. The Kentucky Bourbon has a denser cupcake, with the most delicious buttery frosting. It’s truly delicious. Now, the PB&J is one of those things I would never have ordered, it was in the day old area and my husband suggested it — damn him, because it was delicious and I currently have one sitting in a box waiting for me to eat later… or tomorrow, because nothing good will come of me eating two cupcakes in one day. They impress me again and again!

I was hovering between a 3 and a 4 here… but went with the 3. And here’s why: my mom knows I love red velvet cupcakes, and got me one to go. I ate it 36 hours after she purchased it, 5 of those hours the cupcake spent tipped over, in a box, in a hot car ride. It was still delicious! Moist. The frosting was the perfect amount of sweet. And all in all, the perfect size. The best red velvet cupcake in Wausau… I guess to me it is the only red velvet cupcake in Wausau. BUT I would happily take this over a Magnolia Cupcake any day! I need to note: my mom originally stopped to pick up a wedding cake that morning. The wedding cake was dry, and the frosting was not so good. It was a plain white cake. If you’re not going fancy… like red velvet… it doesn’t seem like it pays to get a large sheet cake.(Didn’t ruin the wedding.) Red Velvet Cupcake: 4 Wedding Cake: I’d do my homework many many times before investing in that one.

Called and ordered four and a half dozen MINI cupcakes for dessert buffet table, you cannot order without prepaying with Credit card, did prepay($ 79 for 54 so about 1.50 a piece) ordered vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes. When picked up found they had made the wrong size – told we «were lucky» as got full size for mini price, however, did not want full size. The cupcakes were pretty, however, they were mediocre in the taste department, the red velvet was exceptionally dry and tasteless. Icing was OK, but nothing to rave about, could have ordered at Trig’s or 2510 and spent way less – perhaps just got them on an «off day” — not sure but will not order anything there for party again, out of 40 – 50 people at party, no one«raved» about the taste, hate to bash local business, but just not impressed, maybe the specialty flavors are better.

My wife noticed that this cute shop had opened up on the walking mall in downtown Wausau close to the Wausau Center. She brought a treat home for me after work: An espresso cupcake that was divine: The body of the cupcake was chocolate with a little dollop of chocolate cream in the middle of the top. Topping off the cupcake was a large mound of divine espresso whipped cream or similar. Scrumptious to the max! I will check it out again to see what other goodies they have. That was yesterday. I drove by today when I was downtown. It is cute. I hope that this place makes it. Parking is difficult but very close are the parking ramps for the downtown mall called the Wausau Center.
