Very poor customer service. Luckily there are other options in the U Street area.

Nice wine and beer shop in the middle of U St. Recently remodeled after a fire, very nice shelving. Lots of craft beer bombers right as you enter. Back fridges have more 6-pack type stuff and even some other bombers. Found some hard to get Founders here, lots of Dogfish Head 750s, local stuff. Nothing too exciting but worth a stop if you are in the U St area. Can easily stock up on six packs for parties last minute. A little better prices than the markup I was used to at DeVino’s(now closed). Staff was pretty knowledge about beer. About half and half beer and wine for their inventory. Still, would recommend Virginia Market for your craft beer needs in the area.

Great selection of beer and nice location on U Street. This used to have a super chiller(where you could put a bottle in for a few minutes and get it cold before you leave) but no longer, so yeah they have great selection, but you’ll need to chill your beer beforehand. I haven’t looked at their wine or liquor selection.

The wine selection was broad and well organized. I was thoroughly impressed by the beer selection, specifically now that they are carrying Boulevard Wheat from Kansas City. The shop is incredibly clean, easy to navigate and the owner very helpful. I love his little dog too, Maximilian.

I’m glad they re-opened after the fire. The wines are organized by region for the most part, and the smaller craft brew selection is respectable. When I stopped in there one time, the delivery man apologized to me for talking to the cashier and said the service was usually much better. The service was fine for me already, so kudos! They were really helpful after that, but not overly so. When I checked out, he automatically started scraping the price tags off the wine bottles. Now THAT, my friends, is service. U St. Wine and Beer is close to my office and has the best selection of beer and wine in the area. I think I may start a quest to try all the brews there.

Went here for the first time to pick up a wine for a housewarming. Very well-stocked, clean store(they just re-opened after four months of remodeling). Large variety of wines starting from 8 or 9 bucks so you’re bound to find something decent-tasting that you can afford. The staff was super helpful and it really has a neighborhood feel to it. The guy at the register was even nice enough to give me a small discount when he found out I was new to the area. Will definitely be back!

I love coming to this place. It is close to Ben’s Chilli Bowl and is right on U-Street. You will see an ATM right outside because it is easy to pass it up. At home, I can go to a convenience store and get beer but here I realized that you can’t until i went in a 7-eleven and they told me about U Street Wine and Beer. They have a vast selection of wines and beers from all over the world and the staff is very helpful. You can find wines for any price point and they are easy to find because the store is laid out by region(which I love btw). Some stores are divided by type but I prefer by region. For the wine connoisseur, this is the place for you. However, those who aren’t as educated in wine shouldn’t be intimidated because I have been helped by both patrons and the staff. The lady who is usually at the front counter tells me about wines I might like to try and she is usually dead-on. If you see me in there, give me a lil«Heyyyyy»(I do frequent this place) Also they hold wine tastings on Fridays!

I really like the people who own and run this place. They always great you with a smile and politely offer to help where possible. City Paper ran a great article about the owner Steve Tekle awhile back( ) that shows not only how he turned a «problem license» into something productive, but how much he has taken into account the neighborhood concerns and desires for the types of businesses up and down U Street to create a positive shopping environment for the area. For grabbing a bottle on the go, it is definitely worth stopping in. The workers do not know a lot about the wines in stock, but the prices are right(generally between $ 10-$ 30) and it is a great stop on the way to a potluck or dinner party.
