The sushi here is sub-par. Some of the other dishes are decent, but really not worth the price. I have a feeling this place survives on the overflow from other restaurants on the block. However, the staff is incredibly nice and efficient.

my favorite sushi in all the land… sadly, today we were with family at 2 Amy’s across the street when I looked over my shoulder and noticed the lights were off, and I saw a letter taped to the door. my fiancé and I ran out the door to read the note. it advised the post office to leave their mail at a neighboring business. no chairs or tables, no hostess stand. no neon open sign. closed. I asked the hostess at the Amy’s if she knew anything. she said all she knew was one day she looked up and they were gone. their miso soup always had a friendly little spicy kick. I dreamed of their sunny delight roll. I’ll tell my children about the smokey boat. sushi sushi is no more. (and ps: if anyone knows what happened, or where their chef has moved on to, please let me know!)

SS satisfies those last minute sushi cravings without breaking the bank. I’m becoming a sucker for their rainbow and Macomb rolls. The sushi(maguro, salmon, ebi) is a little lackluster and conventional. Their service is great.

I have had a lot better sushi that this. While inexpensive, the quality reflects the price. Dry rice, little fish, lacking flavor. The Miso Soup was decent and since it is around the corner, I may go back for the occasional rolls. I would not recommend this place if you want to enjoy your sushi experience. Sometimes it is worth it to pay a little more.

Pretty standard sushi place at an affordable price. The menu has a typical selection of rolls and entrees. Probably not worth making a special trip for, but will not disappoint either if you are looking for some basic rolls etc.

As I eat at more and more sushi places in DC, my initial loyalty to Sushi Sushi is being questioned. True, it has cheap sushi. However, the rolls are small, the rice is often dry, and the spicy rolls are seasoned with what appears to be tabasco sauce. When I only had sushi-ko to compare to, it seemed like a great deal. But, with Murasaki and other places nearby doing much better work, I can’t help thinking it is a waste of money to get sushi from Sushi Sushi. I am giving two stars because it is the cheapest delivery sushi in the area, and when you feel super lazy and want some California rolls and edamame for dinner, it will do.

This is still some of my favorite sushi in DC. I’ve traveled a lot. I’ve spent time in Japan. The owner, Huang, loves what he does and I think it shows. He cares about this place and he loves his customers.

Consistently some of the best sushi I’ve had in the District, matched with reasonable pricing and a good delivery zone. I don’t like to dress up to eat my sushi, so I tend to shy away from the«fancy» sushi places. I like it quick and tasty, and not breaking the bank. They have a wide variety of rolls and nigri, plus some delicious inventive hand rolls. Good miso soup(not too crazy, but not at all bland). Teriyaki and tempura is fine, but really, get the sushi! Service is fine. Not outstanding as great or terrible.

The sushi here was good, and cheap! I got three different rolls for $ 14, which is about half what I think of as the«going rate» for maki rolls in DC. The quality didn’t seem any worse than the expensive stuff, and I was pleased with my overall experience. I got takeout, so I didn’t get to rate the service, although my food was ready within 15 minute of my call. People appeared to be enjoying themselves on the outdoor patio. I got the california roll as an afterthought in case I was still hungry, but it ended up being the best part of the meal. The spicy tuna was also good and made my nose run.

Ive had a lot of Sushi in DC and this place really isn’t very good. The rolls are acceptable and the nigiri was average at best. In addition to the rolls, I also ordered some tempura which had too much breading and was very heavy. It should be light and fluffy(See Sushi Taro). All in all this place is mediocre.

Sushi Sushi makes no pretense about why you go there. There is sushi, and more sushi, and it is awesome. The interior is very charming, and has all of the nuances of a truly local restaurant. The walls are hand-painted, the tables and chairs are well worn, and the menu tells the story of the chef who started the restaurant(you can see his picture next to the bio, and often spot him flitting around in the back). With the delightful interior come the delightful staff. The waitress we typically have also serves as the hostess, and she keeps very busy. On the busiest nights she can be serving half of the restaurant, with the food sometimes being brought out by the chefs. Needless to say, short-staffed or not, the people are amazingly sweet and attentive. In terms of choices, there is a fantastic selection of sushi to choose from, including many vegetarian options. The ingredients are fresh, the servings are consistent with the reasonable price, and there is nothing else left to say but to go there hungry, and enjoy some nice local flavor.

If you are looking for inexpensive, interesting rolls, Sushi-Sushi is a good choice. It’s not Nobu, or even Sushi-Ko, but it’s not pretending to be either. The rolls are big and heavy with a lot of sauce and flavoring. It’s one of the first sushi places I have been to that I felt full after eating. The fish seems fresh, and good, but not great quality. The staff is very friendly which makes you feel welcome. Unfortunately they are so friendly, they get to talking with customers and sometimes forget to stop. They also sometimes forget to get you a drink, or a refill. I get the feeling if they just slowed down a little bit, they would be great. We went in a Tuesday night, and the staff would not be able to handle a large crowd. That being said, I don’t know if they have a different staff during busy times. With so may sushi places just offering a mundane experience, Sushi-Sushi offers more variety at a moderate price.

This is one of my two cheap sushi joints when I am craving a plate of sashimi. I don’t do rolls or any of that mayo crap when I want raw fish. There aren’t authentic sushi chefs here but I always get the sashimi platter and ask the chefs to slice it extra thin. They usually serve 2 pieces of 4 or 5 fish but sliced thinly it becomes 3 pieces. Sashimi isn’t supposed to be chunks of fish so this satisfy me fine, and the price at about 17 bones a plate, no complaints! Most places charge about 6 bones for 2 pieces of sashimi so I leave a happy camper. The blue underwater décor needs some help big time though.

Stop hating on Sushi Sushi! I live a block away from this place and no it is not the best sushi place in DC, but it is definitely not the worst. For the price you pay it’s actually pretty good. If you go to this place expecting a 5 star meal, then yes, you will be let down, but thats your own fault for expecting a life changing sushi experience for 20 bucks. This is a pretty good«cheap eats» place, and their Sunny Delight roll is my favorite.

My former roommates and I used to order from Sushi Sushi so much that it nearly got to the point where they would arrive at our apartment before we had even ordered anything. I am very picky about the fish in my sushi, so much so that I will squint at every imperfection to decipher what it is I’m looking at. The sushi at this restaurant hurts my eyes. The fish is plump and meaty, and has white lines of fat running through most of the pieces. Despite not getting the best cuts of fish, you certainly get more than enough of it for the price you pay. Most of the rolls are in the $ 5 range, which is about the same price as the sushi at Giant, but without the rice that tastes like it has been dried and then glued together. Despite the name, my favorite items to get at this restaurant are not sushi. The steamed chicken dumplings are satisfyingly filling, and turn into a flavorful starter with a little help from the accompanying brown sauce. The Smokey Boat always stimulates my taste buds. It consists of half an avocado filled with crab and shrimp meat, and covered with a «special sauce.» One of the ingredients in the special sauce must be crack because the thought of it tempts me to order from this restaurant much more than I should.

Sushi Sushi is a pretty good, small local restaurant that deserves better review than it gets. I don’t know if the other reviewers just happen to always go at busy times or off days for the waiters, but they’re always friendly, responsive, and competent when we go there. In addition, the food is decent, particularly the vegetable tempura and the chicken dumplings. I don’t really eat sushi so I stick to the tame stuff, but I find it enjoyable and just as good as Murasaki or other more expensive sushi places in the area. I don’t feel comfortable giving something five stars when I’m not a big fan of the food, but that doesn’t mean that this stuff isn’t delicious. It’s also a great time right now to eat outside on their patio, an evening dinner watching the area around you in great weather snacking on sushi is a great thing.

I’m not sure why everyone disses Sushi Sushi. We live one block away and come here every couple of weeks(not just because 2 Amy’s is full). Is this the best sushi you’ll ever eat? Probably not. But then again, we’re not sushi snobs. The nigiri is good quality, and their rolls are just as good. I love the miso soup, they put green onions in as well, so it’s got a little extra flavor that I love. The tempura is also really good quality(they use onion, sweet potato, and zucchini as their vegetables). The price is just right. We can order tempura, soup, and enough sushi that we’re stuffed, and for the two of us it’s only about $ 40. This is a great deal for a lot of food, especially compared to a few other sushi places we’ve been to in the city. The service is amazing; the same 3 girls are always there when we go, so they’ve actually gotten to know us and treat us very well. The food comes fast, so there’s never that awkward moment where you’re just sitting around for 20 minutes.

Wow. I am shocked by the mediocre reviews here. Sushi Sushi has always been one of my favorite go-to sushi places, because it’s SO good and VERY cheap. They may still have the lunch special of two rolls, soup and salad for like $ 8 or something. So, when your waiting in line at 2 Amys for three hours, bite the bullet and try Sushi Sushi. From my experiences, it’s a great little place.

I spent many a night waiting in line across the street at Two Amys. I’d look across the street and note that Sushi Sushi was near empty. Then, a couple weeks ago a family friend took my wife there and they had a decent meal. So I had family in for the weekend from CA and they wanted sushi, but my walk-to fav, Sushi-Ko couldn’t get our large group in soon enough. Drat. We went to Sushi Sushi and after seeing the full page self bio of the chef knew almost immediately there would be trouble. Two servers taking orders without deciding in advance which part of the table to care for, leading to the auctioning of just the few appetizers being brought to the table. Same with the entrees. But worse, the fish was dull and flavorless and the rice was mushy on the outside and rock hard on the inside. I tried to plow through, but gave in and asked if the second half of the meal could be remade with better rice. They did, but even with better, not perfect, rice, the fish was not up to snuff. To be clear, the waitstaff, other than auctioning off food, did their jobs well. But with sushi there’s really no room for second best. In this case a very distant second best.

I’m not sure what happened here. I used to visit Sushi Sushi about every other month but things have changed now. I never see the owner anymore. The quality of food simply isn’t what it used to be. And there’s been a drastic overhaul in staffing. There’s something to be said about going to an Asian restaurant and wanting to see Asian waiters and, especially, Asian sushi chefs. You want to see an Asian guy behind the counter because it lends a degree of authenticity as well as credibility. And when the entire kitchen staff shifts over to Latinos, it means that someone’s cutting costs as well as expertise. I still read the heartwarming story on the menu about the owner. But I have to wonder whether he’s still there or not. Nowadays, Sushi Sushi primarily functions as an overfill room for the more popular restaurants across the street — Two Amy’s and Cactus Cantina. Its chief marketing draw is that there’s no waiting time and its conveniently across the street. I hardly believe that people would venture out to here for the sake of Japanese food. Sadly, Sushi Sushi is simply another example of a promising restaurant becoming complacent with itself. The food has become uninspiring and bland. The quality of the fish itself(color, texture, flavor, and freshness) has continued to drop. The price is rather high for the food that’s being served. $ 20 for sub-par sashimi is $ 10 too much. I won’t dare bring another Asian friend(or date) to this place because the food is so embarrassing now that it’ll ruin my crediability. I just can’t help but feel that someone’s trying to cut corners while hoping nobody notices. 2 Stars — I won’t go unless I’m absolutely jonesing for sushi. I’d only recommend Sushi Sushi if all the nearby restaurants are packed and it’ll take too long to walk over to Glover Park.
