Ann at Patrick Segui is amazing. I have really difficult to cut hair(it sticks up in all directions of its cut wrong), and she consistently gives me a great haircut. Her direct line is 703−229−9228.

Patrick Segui is a magician hairstylist. The best. I have been going to this salon(even when located on 18th and L) for the last 35 years. No other barber can touch my hair.

This is a horrible salon. I have never in my 15 years of receiving coloring received such horrible customer service and worst high/low light. The heavy set stylist in his 60s didn’t seem to like showing me more than a handful of color options which should have been a sign to leave. Eventually he let me see more. He sloppily put color in my hair quickly and with little order or attention. Then he set a timer for 25 min and never came to check on my hair until it was washed roughly and with half my makeup off by a «shampoo» person who clearly did not belong in a salon. I immediately noticed a few almost white streaks running the length of my strands and orange bands parallel to my scalp and still about an inch from my roots. My roots were still as prominent as when I walked in! I pointed this out in hopes he could fix it. He told me that it was not his problem if my previous color got lifted by his color more in some places than another and I was crazy to think he should have checked on the color while I was in foils. He felt the orange chunks/parallel streaks to my scalp were nothing and my hair looked good. He literally said that I did not know what looked good. Apparently random chunks of white and orange in what should have been mix of honey blonde and light brown was what he was going for… When I asked to speak to the manager, Patrick did not want to come by and barely looked at my head before snidely saying what did I want then? They then proceeded to try to charge me $ 200 for my horrible color. There was no apology from anyone. I was completely shocked at the lack of care or concern for clearly lacking work. I wonder if the stylist I received ever had any training as even his blow drying skill was lacking. I doubt he has any certification or license. This place should be shut down or sued.

As described by other reviewers, this shop is owned by Patrick Segui, and named after him and his father. The shop leases chairs to an eclectic and skilled collection of stylists/professionals. Patrick’s father, an accomplished world-champion hair stylist, and the dedication of the shop leases fulfills the intent to provide a top-of-the-range styling experience. Timely appointments, attentive interest in the client’s desires, tactful discussion of options, and a sincere desire to provide a style that«pops» makes this a shop a popular choice. Colleague patrons are sometimes well-known figures. The shop does not brag about their client list, respecting the reputation confidence of it’s customers/clients. Want a style that screams of good taste and excellent judgment? «» Patrick Segui is my choice.

I have had some good cuts by David in the past — UNTIL recently. I had my hair colored and about the time I was due to have the dye washed out I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that my hair was ORANGE(so was my face!)! I asked D about it and he gave me some explanation about oxidation, which I didn’t believe. I knew enough about this process to know that this was a huge mistake and the options were either to strip it or wear it that way until it washed out. Patrick(the owner) and David huddled for several minutes in a back room. Turns out D used the wrong dye(without carefully reading the color name on the box). Their plan? Put a darker color over the orange to camouflage it! All the other staff wandered by over the next 25 minutes to see if the cover-up was working. I went in asking for a medium blonde color and left 1.5 hours later with a dark, reddish brown that is not a normal color for me and anyone who knew me would know was a dye job. I had planned on being there only 30 – 45 minutes. Luckily I did not have to return to the office(especially for an official photograph — see above). I was handling this all with considerable restraint until — guess what?! Instead of offering me their profoundest apologies for the near-disaster and waiving their fees, they CHARGED Me for the color job(and the owner was aware of this). I paid it but I have been stewing about it ever since. A real low-class operation! I will NOT go back there.

Based on the website alone, I give it 2 stars. The site itself isn’t bad but the automatic music when you enter the site is a terrible thing to do to potential customers. There isn’t even a silence button. For someone who was visiting the site at work, I had to mute my computer speakers to get it to stop.

I have gone to Patrick for many years, and he has provided first class service. He is a true gentleman, careful and conscientous, highly respected by his clients, and runs a quality business. All the folks who work there are consistently kind and thoughtful. The salon is a midtown gem!

I’ve been going to David for 15 years now — except for that unfortunate gap when he thought he was retiring, and abandoned us all for two years. My wife now comes to David too. There’s just no one else we’ve ever been to, who can handle curly hair as well as he can, especially the unruly kind! Plus, he’s a truly kind and genuine person, so you leave the salon with both beautiful hair and a smile.

This afternoon, I was transformed — I went to this salon at the suggestion of two friends whose hair I have always admired. Gilbert took my drabby hair style and gave me a new look which was all his suggestion — I felt more than 5 years younger when I left his salon. It was definitely worth trying a new place — Gilbert is really an artist with hair. I live in Maryland, but I wil come back — it is an easy trip on the metro — McPherson stop.

The bottom line: all’s well that ends well. It was attorney-photo time around my office and I knew that if an unfortunate photo of me landed on the firm’s website, I’d have to quit my job to avoid the heckling and ridicule that would ensue. Rather than risk being out of a job in this economy, I called around for a reasonably priced blow-out. Now, a blow-out at the Bang Salon in Chinatown costs $ 25, so I was a bit surprised when Chreky & others were quoting upwards of $ 50. Patrick Segui said they’d charge $ 40, plus 20% off b/c I mentioned the Unilocal discount, so I made an appointment. I was a bit thrown off when I walked in, b/c the salon gives off the vibe of either a barber shop or a suburban salon circa 1989. The shampoo was nothing write home about, and the blow-out, with David, was downright frightening. There was no chat about what I was looking for(curly/straight, part on right/middle/left), and he didn’t put any product in my hair at the outset. He then proceeded to use a brush that *clearly* had someone else’s hair in it. Gross. So. Gross. He dried my hair for about 30 minutes, pushing it around in weird ways. I must have looked horrified at some point, because he actually turned my chair away from the mirror(instead of pausing to have a little chat). Now, I should have said something, or run away, or done anything, really, but I’m a pushover and instead sat in relative silence mustering up the courage for whatever awkward conversation was going to follow this hair-raising ordeal. In the end, my hair looked fine. It was straight, if a bit poufy on top, and I was able to repart it in a way that minimized said pouf. But it certainly wasn’t worth $ 40, and I won’t be going back.

**This review is specifically for Gilbert, but there are two other stylists here(including the namesake of the salon) who seemed very nice as well. My aunt has literally been going to Gilbert for 21 years, and she’s always spoken very highly of him. Gilbert and his wife Gin have been in the business forever, but Gilbert has somehow managed to not lose the relevance in his cuts and color — believe me, there’s nothing about him or the work he does that is out of date or unfashionable. Above and beyond all this, he is the absolute sweetest, kindest, most charming stylist I’ve been to in years. From the names you can tell that he’s French, and he goes back regularly to get new products that you can’t find in the US. He fixed my hair which had over-bleached highlights and pretty much exactly matched my original hair color, plus gave me a very nice cut. On top of all that, he’s very fast without rushing — he seems to have everything down to a science, which is the benefit of working with someone with so much experience. I almost don’t want to recommend him because he seems to be so busy. My only regret is that he’s thousands and thousands of miles away from San Francisco — but I guess I’ll have to come back.
