My first time trying a «lobster» truck. They were located on First Street NE& M Street NE on today. I decided to try something different outside of the usual lobster roll. I ordered the grilled lobster cheese. Very flavorful! My only con is that some parts of the bread were wetter and soaked than the other. Other than that I think the sandwich was great for my first time. I will say that I agree with some other the other users that the wait time was very long… especially on today with the sun beaming down. Will definitely be back if they are located on First & M NE.

I will definitely be going back for their Maine lobster roll. So delicious– good seasoning, and the bun was wonderful even though I had to wait 30 minutes before eating. Ordering was a little hectic as was the wait. Took about 20 minute total– I believe the man running it said something has broken… but that was my only complaint. This is my first time trying the Lobstatonian and one of my first lobster food trucks, so this review might be updated.

So delicious! I visited this truck while it was in the Chinatown area. The customer service is spectacular which is a big deal! I ordered the Maine Lobster Roll. Looks small for $ 15, but it is SO filling and FULL of flavor! The roll is buttery and soft and lightly toasted, yum. And the lobster meat… so tender! And the sauce the lobster is tossed in is the perfect amount. Not wet or dry. But perfect. My bun never got wet and my mouth never got dry. I think I ate it too fast! Definitely recommend.

Hmmmm… I had a decent experience here. I thought the guy doing the serving was very friendly. My only issue was that I thought there was too much sauce/mayonnaise on the sandwich. I had the crab/lobster roll and like one of the other reviewers said, I couldn’t eat with just my hands. I had to whip out the knife and fork. Besides the fact that I had to use utensils on a sandwich, there was just to much dressing period. I think it overpowered what could have been a great sandwich. I also think they should use something other than foil and wax paper to serve their sandwiches. I would eat here again… maybe…if I’m in the mood for crab.

Lobster roll itself was fine. What you would expect from a lobster roll. Good bread, enough meat, and lightly dressed in butter.(could have used slightly more seasoning). However, I am giving it a 1 star due to poor customer service. The gentleman was friendly and we ordered. My friend decided to order a bag of salt and Vinegar chips and was given a plain bag. She opened it, I took one chip and she took one. We tasted it and realized the bag was wrong.(We assumed he gave the correct bag we ordered so we did not read the label and just opened it). She immidately went bag and he had the nerve to say we put our hands on it(like he was going to resell the bag that was opened with two less chips). So, even though we took the bag back within 30 seconds(we were still waiting on our lobster rolls”), he would not give my friend the proper bag of chips after spending $ 15 plus tax on a roll and another $ 2 for the wrong bag of chips. Same price as luke’s lobster and quality. Luke’s is slightly better in taste. However, due to poor customer service satisfaction and the way the gentleman handled the situation, we will not be going back. I would rather give my money to Luke’s who would never have pulled a stunt like that.

So… This was the second time I ate from Lobstatonian, and each time the wait was forever!!! Granted, I did go during the peak of lunch in downtown DC, but I don’t think that excuses the long wait in 88 – 90 degree weather. I stood in line today for 30 minutes – absolutely ridiculous. The ordering process and the pick-up process needs work. As it stands now, the same person is taking your order and preparing your food which increases the wait time. If there were two people, one to take orders, and the other preparing, I don’t think the wait would be that bad. As far as the food goes, I ordered the Crab and Lobster Sandwich. It was a nice portion for $ 11. The portion definitely beats the Red Hook Lobster Truck(although I prefer them!). It was a little too«wet,» but decent. I would eat here again if the line is short or non-existent.

There is little that differentiates this truck from the other sources of lobster rolls in DC. It’s only advantage is its proximity to that day’s customers. My beef is value. $ 15(the standard DC price) is a little steep for the amount of lobster meat on the roll. Knowing that fishermen are getting just over $ 4 a pound on the dock, the markup to the roll in my hand is pretty staggering. Still somedays you just have a taste that needs satisfying — regardless of the guilt of paying so much for so little. Head to the nearest vendor as there is nothing special about any of them.

Looking for a quick lunch in L’Enfant Plaza can be often be a food truck safari, and today I decided to take my chances with a rare seafood-themed varietal. The lobster tacos did not disappoint! Plenty of lobster in each taco, with a creamy, spicy sauce that hit the spot. Order came out fast, too. Only drawback is that they’re a little on the small side, and there’s only two per order.

So, lets be honest… lobsters taste great even at its worst. So if you are craving lobster rolls, this place will satisfy it. However, with great lobster rolls around from fine lobstatitions like Luke’s, Hanks, Red Hook lobster pound, and etc., this truck has to play catch up if it wants to hang with the best. The first noticeable thing was that there were only a handful of people that had ordered but they seemed to be overwhelmed in the kitchen. One person ordered about 5 or 6 items, which isnt much in the high volume food truck world of DC, and they seem a little stressed about that. They allowed me to skip over that gentleman since I ordered only the Connecticut style lobster roll so my wait wasnt so bad. But the other poor gent might have had to wait a while. The first impression of the roll is that it’s small and rather light. Its about the size of a hot dog roll but toast. There is a healthy proportion of tender lobster meat, albeit there was no apparent tail meat, but the overall sandwich is on the small side. Im 58, 165 and I was surely hungry after this roll. This sandwich could not be eaten by hand. I had to use a knife and fork because the bread was soft, soggy, and not well toasted. So when i attempted to lift the roll it immediately fell apart. It was tasty, but definitely less than ideal for a lobster roll. With all the competition of lobster rolls in DC, this place has to step it up especially if the price is the same as the competitors. One word of advice for all lobster roll trucks, potato chips are cool and all, but nothing goes better with lobster rolls than some great fries. There isnt a single lobster truck that sells fries and I think whoever is the first one to make really great fries, no mediocre fries, will find a great competitive advantage.

Stopped by Chinatown today, perused the food trucks and decided on a Lobster Roll. I’ve heard lobster trucks can take a while, but are worth the wait; this truck falls right in the same category. There was 1 guy in front of me in line, and it took about 5 – 10 minutes for his roll to come out. I ordered mine(he takes credit cards!) and waited about 10 minutes as well. There was only one man running the truck, so I’m not sure if it’s any faster any other time. When the lobster roll came out it looked decadent if not a little small. Those concerns were all for nought; it had a TON of lobster on it, and the salt and vinegar chips I opted for were a nice compliment. Lastly, the Jarrito’s Pineapple soda was excellent! I can’t commit to a 5 star review due to the wait, and that I haven’t been to any other lobster trucks for comparison. That being said, i’ve already recommended to others and will be thinking about saving my spare cash for another :)
