Went on a beautiful Sunday night and sat in the entrance area where all the windows were open for a nice breeze. Sunday is bring your own wine night with no corkage fee so take advantage of that! The service was great and wait staff was very friendly. They were turning down walk ins so make sure you have a reservation! We ordered escargot and this beet appetizer to start and the duck breast and lamb stew. The appetizers definitely were the highlights. The beet was very refreshing and perfect on a warm night.

Went for a birthday dinner for a group of 5. Overall we had a good experience: We had a rose(also tip: Sunday’s you can bring your own bottle of wine and there’s no uncorking fee!) We split the mussel entrée: sauce was good. Bread was also served as an appetizer(only one slice). We had to ask for a second slice for the sauce. Really good though! Fries were very crispy, which I like and they were not greasy. We all ordered diff dishes and it was really good! Only slight downside: — it was kind of slightly saltier than I like it to be. Overall nice place and cozy. Surprisingly crowded during peak hours!

I hosted my sisters bridal shower in the upstairs wine lounge. It was the perfect space for 25 – 30 people(and could’ve fit more!) the appetizers were delicious and the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. They helped set-up and even brought all of the gifts downstairs when the party was over. Wonderful staff and so easy to work with!

The owners are so rude they probably aren’t even welcome in France. the food is average yet expensive. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. If you do find yourself here avoid the steak and the the crepes, I know right, what kind of French restaurant has terrible steak frittes(the frittes was gangster though, I’ll give them that) and crepes? You would be far better off going to mon ami gabi, a chain I believe, but sadly I think they have more of a soul than this particular eatery. Also their food is exponentially better. God willing chef Ramsey will be forced to intervene at this establishment, and will force the owners to sell quality product and disallow them from speaking to customers.

i WILLNOTRETURNTOTHISRESTAURANT. I’ve eaten there many times, and frankly, cannot believe it’s still in business. Last time, food was frankly barely edible and utterly tasteless. Service was mediocre too. Too bad. It’s walking distance.

I made a reservation for two on a Saturday night in the middle of the dinner rush. Upon arrival we were greeted very nicely and promptly seated. Our waitress came by in a timely manner to take our order and our wine arrived very quick. We had an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert; all of which were delicious and arrived at good times! The atmosphere is nice and kinda romantic. It is tight quarters and fairly loud when it was busy, but that didn’t ruin our experience. I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here during a busy time, otherwise there might be a wait.

Very charming and the price is nice !! The upstairs area for dinner is very retro, with black and white old movies playing… very neat. Very reasonable, and great for for a rainy night onion soup and salad.

The overall experience was good, however we came very close to walking out after our initial encounter with the host/busboy. We probably would have walked out except for all other nearby restaurants were closed by the storm. The host made us take off all our winter clothes at the door before we got to the table and made no effort to show us to a table so we sat ourselves. When we got our menus, he overheard me mention to my friend that I’d like a cappuccino, and said, you’re going to order a cappuccino?” I said I would like one please, then he sighed and said: «well it’s really hard to make,» and walked away. I have never had a server blatantly say that, and also I know that an espresso machine is NOT that hard to operate. We were getting ready to leave when a very friendly man, who turned out to be our server, for the rest of the time came over and asked us if we would like coffee, hot chocolate, and yes, a CAPPUCCINO(because it is on their menu). So we ordered cappuccinos and they turned out to be wonderful, they were even served with a little piece of Valrhona dark chocolate. After that the experience was great, the atmosphere is nice, the food(we all ordered crepes or sandwiches) was good, and the pricing wasn’t bad. However the host gave me a terrible first impression.

De-freaking-licious!!! I don’t even have pictures of my food because I inhaled it(it was so good). I loved the ambiance and the staff was very nice. We got GILT City voucher(amazing deal btw) and had a special menu, but definitely coming back to try more. Loved it!

Great service and delicious food. The tartine had the perfect amount of sweetness and wasn’t too filling. The crêpe savoyarde was also amazing and decadent. The croque monsieur was good but not the best I’ve ever had. They have a separate menu where they have this deal for $ 21 for brunch where you can either get soup/salad/appetizer and an entrée OR an entrée and dessert… PLUS a mimosa! Will definitely be doing this next time!

Le Chat Noir is a great neighborhood French restaurant. The service is friendly and very accommodating especially to the needs of our table following the notes i put in on the Opentable res. We sat in the quieter upstairs dining room which is better for my father who sometimes has trouble hearing. We started with the delicious tartiflette-a wonderful combination of cheese, bacon, potatoes and onions. Our server also helped us pick out a reasonable priced bottle of red burgundy which paired well with our entire meal. I had the entrecôte special which was a nicely prepared to my specifications piece of ribeye. My dining companion had a delicious bowl of bouillabaisse which was perfectly seasoned as well. For dessert I recommend the tarte tatin and profiteroles and if you like a glass of cognac. I’ll definitely come back and see what else they have to offer.

I went here for my birthday, and was not disappointed. The wine list had some great offerings, and the food was delicious. We ordered escargots, mussels meunieres and a lamb ragout. Despite appearing small at first, everything was totally filling. Haven’t tried their desserts but I should!

Food and service was good, but I think my favorite thing about this restaurant was the French feel/atmosphere. Very romantic and cozy for dinner. Also, the bread is outstanding. Served warm. So delicious.

The first thing and only thing you need to know about this place is that French families in the DMV always seem to come here – to the point where it seems most of the staff speaks the language. Need more? It has the best baguette and best fries in the city. The sweet crepes, savory crepes, sandwiches, steaks, wine, and pastries are all excellent – the steak frites, house cabernet franc and péché mignon crêpe are personal favorites. Metro accessible, not as pricey as some DC French food, and above all tasty.

Went here with a living social for three course brunch. It’s on Wisconsin, a little further down maybe 10 minute walk from metro. Great bistro like atmosphere. We were in the outer room, all windows we’re open for a great breeze on a beautiful day. Came with three app entrée desert and a bottle of french champagne. Great to make your own mimosas. Salad was a good start. Basic but good. I had the frittata. Big portion. The fries we’re hot and delicious. The egg had bacon tomatoes and spinach. Very good. The desert was Nutella crêpe. No more need be said. Nutella is also amazing. Especially in a crêpe. The service was friendly but at times was very slow. Still, this is a great value very authentic with a friendly staff.

Nice neighbourhood bistro. My husband and I was there for dinner one Monday a few weeks ago. The service was slow. If you are adepth at making eye contact and using body language, you will be ok. My husband ordered beer, and it took 3 reminders and one pantomime to get it served. I ordered the Fish special which was good. My husband, however, ordered Scallop which looked more like appetizer. It too was good. Dessert was a big let down. I was looking forward to crêpe. Sad too say I had much better crêpe in Bangkok! Sad to say the dessert, which is my meal. Would have been a goid place to go for a casual dinner or lunch but quite pricy. You better not be in a hurry or too hungry, though.

A little on the expensive side, but the portions are generous. It’s apparent that either the chef or the manager has experience living in France. My only complaint was that most things tasted like they had too much salt in them– one of my favorite things about French food is a dedication to the true taste of each ingredient, and I felt like the food catered to American taste buds that require everything to be dredged in salt to be «tasty.»(sorry if that sounds snobby!!) The ambiance was my favorite part; it stayed true to French charm without overdoing it and becoming tacky. The service was fine, not memorably great but that is a good thing, right? Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, which was greatly appreciated. I would also imagine this place is great for brunch, so that will probably be the goal for my next visit.

I absolutely loved this neighborhood gem! It’s charming, cozy, and romantic. It has indoor seating but also partially enclosed outdoor seating in the summer. TheresnThe food is delicious and traditional French. The bread rolls were served fresh and warm. It is really the atmosphere that makes it though. Definitely recommend.

If you find yourself in the Tenleytown area(or you live in the neighborhood), I think this place is worth a visit. If you’re trekking from another quadrant/corner of DC, maybe not. I love French restaurants mostly because of the ambience and character of these institutions, and Le Chat Noir does this particularly well. The open-air portion of the restaurant is particularly lovely for a summer brunch, with wall plaques from St Emilion-Bouchon evoking nostalgia from my trip there last month. However, the food leaves some to be desired. While I enjoyed my steak and frites, my roommates hardly touched their duck breast omelette. It made for a rather uncomfortable dining experience; I am particularly affected by company, and if the table doesn’t enjoy their meals equally, it’s not an enjoyable experience for me. The brunch deal($ 20.95 for an appetizer/dessert, entrée, and one glass of champagne) and ambience are great. The food can be a hit or miss.
