hungry for soul food, and too busy packing for an upcoming move, decided to try lawrence ii. never again! let’s start with the appearance of the place. Windows and door were absolutely DIRTY. not a good beginning. Service with a smile was the only positive of this place. The young man behind the counter was very nice. I ordered the porkchop dinner. the porkchops were dry; they looked wonderful but were exceedingly dry. the collard greens were a salty mess. the macaroni and cheese didn’t look good; didn’t taste good and it had sugar in it! who does that and why? And then there’s the corn muffins — blech! Too much imitation vanilla was used, which left an awful aftertaste. nah, i’ll pass.

Went here on a Saturday for lunch. I ordered the two pork chop dinner and the fried chicken dinner and it was under $ 20. I have tried a ton a soulfood places and I have to say this was hands down the BEST fried pork chops and chicken I’ve had. The macaroni and cheese is sweet as others have mentioned, but still very good. The greens were also delicious. My husband joked that we should go back there for dinner today since the food was so good! Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. I’m bummed that I didn’t try this place sooner. We will definitely be back!

I decided to go to Lawrence II Petworth Carryout today around 1:30 and ordered 6 fried wings and Mac & cheese for $ 9.79. everyone seemed to be in a different world because the City health/food inspectors were there because the women forgot my collards greens that I asked for when I placed my order Well to sum it up the wings were fried way too long and were very hard and dry(I should have known something wasn’t quite right when she warmed them up in the microwave oven) and the Mac & cheese had a sweet taste, who puts sugar in their Mac & cheese? No No. Won’t be going back there ever again.

The best part of the this place is the service! I feel like I am walking in to grandmas kitchen. They are so nice and friendly. The food is really good. I have been there twice already(both times this week) I had breakfast and it was super yummy, the home fries were so delicious. cost me about $ 5. Then today for lunch, the fries were ok, but the steak and cheese was REALLYGOOD. cost about $ 6 I’ll definitely be going next week… maybe for dinner.

The best, and cheapest, soul food in Petworth. I’ve been there a few times, but the last I decided to take pictures and get a Unilocal page going for them. I have never made it there for their breakfast, but I have heard it’s good(and cheap). For around $ 8 you get a meat and two vegetables. On my last visit I had fried pork chops(they give you two), collard greens, and macaroni and cheese(they also had white rice and brown gravy that looked really good). The pork chops were not dry, and the breading wasn’t over-done or too salty. A solid chop. The macaroni oddly enough had a sweet flavor to it – actually pretty good. And the greens were cooked expertly. You can tell they have been doing this for a while. They make their own mumbo sauce(if that’s your thing) and have plenty of hot sauce on hand. The dinner plate comes with a roll. It’s a lot of(good) food for the price. There’s very limited seating, so plan to take it with you. You can see the stools in the window in one of the pictures. It’s a family-owned and run place, and the employees are all very friendly. Cash-only, but there’s an ATM across the street at the 7 – 11.
