This is a great school. I enjoy my classes and I feel like I’m learning skills that I can use to protect myself and affect arrests. I was considering different martial arts like Krav Maga, Brazilian ju jitsu, MMA and when I watched my first class at Jigo Tensin-Ryu I told the Grand Master that I was looking at these different options. He encouraged me to find the style that was right for me instead of pushing his style over any other. He said that Krav Maga was good, simple and effective but he felt like jujitsu has more to study, that it could offer a larger variety of effective techniques. I also mentioned that I was looking at Brazilian jiu jitsu and he told me that the Brazilian style has a focus on ground grappling techniques whereas his style included some ground fighting but focused on standing. You can see from the pictures around the studio and from his website that he’s taught many police officers and special forces, he even travels to other countries to train army and police officers. Apparently if you get to a high rank he also provides training with several weapons, although we’ve already done some knife blocking practice and I’m still a beginner. Very good place, I recommend it.
