Note: cash only and delivery/carry out only. This place is my jam. They deliver in bad weather and are walking distance in nice weather. The prices are more than reasonable and are unheard of in DC when you factor in just how much food they cram into each takeout container. These things are so tight, you could bounce a quarter off of them. I am usually not the biggest fan of Chinese food because so much of it lacks flavor or is super saucy/sticky/sweet but Hong Kong does a great job of packing in fresh veggies to make it healthy and keeping the sweet level to a minimum. They also are usually pretty good about making it spicy if requested. We’ve ordered here numerous times and it’s now to the point that we don’t remember if we’ve ordered certain dishes! Guess we ought to start writing it down. Two of my favorites are the Singapore noodles(with shrimp and pork, comes a bit spicy) and the moo shu pork. The flavor is great and when you run out of the five wraps, you can mix it with the noodles for some extra yums. We typically order three items for a grand total of ~$ 35 and have enough food for the two of us to have dinner and at least four lunch portions. This is seriously one of the best cheap eats places we’ve found in DC when you factor in portion sizes. A real gem to have in the neighborhood.

This place is gross. I was really hoping for some decent(edible) take-out Chinese in the neighborhood, but this isn’t it. I order the Kung Pao Chicken. The sauce was slimy, the chicken was not quite done, and the veggies were too big and unevenly cooked. Also, the veggies were soft pea pods(would like those crisp), big chunks of hard carrot, celery, mini-corn, and green peppers. It was so salty I almost couldn’t eat it. Not going back. Anyone know where to get decent Chinese food on the Hill?

Hit or miss. Some items were great… others not so much. Orange chicken was well cooked — dark meat too. Szechuan chicken was bland… Good velvetting on the meat — just no flavor. Fried rice was fairly mediocre. Fried dumplings on the other hand were great.

I ordered CHOWMEIN, which literally translates to «stir fried NOODLES». What I received 1.) looked nothing like chow mein and 2.) had ZERO noodles in it, ZERO. Not a single noodle. the general tso’s tofu was good though, so they get two stars.

The place is updated, and for the better. They removed a layer of bulletproof glass and spruced everything up a bit. That also includes the food. I’ve noticed a marked improvement in the quality of their meats, so much so that I have begun eating at Hong Kong Carryout regularly. Fits well in the cheap Chinese food wheelhouse.

Judging it for what it is, this place is a good option for Chinese delivery. If you’re looking for something more authentic, you’re looking at the wrong place and need to venture out to the suburbs of VA or MD. This is our go-to when we’re looking for a quick and cheap option. Prices are reasonable and portions are good(not too much, but not too little). We usually order the fried dumplings, chicken and broccoli, won ton soup, and lo mein. The right ratio for meat and veggies is always present with what we order. As you can tell, we stick to the usual staples. All are good and consistent, which is all that we’re expecting. As others have mentioned, this place is cash only. Unlike some of the other Chinese joints in the area, delivery is quick and they do come to your door(I’m looking at you Lucky Carryout).

This is a great stop in the neighborhood for some decent Chinese food when the fridge is empty or you don’t feel like cooking. They also have some options other than Chinese. Entrees and combination platters are moderately priced and the food is made to order. Bring cash as they don’t take credit card!

Overall the food was good — definitely better than your average carryout spot. The only drawbacks were that they only accept cash(really, in this day and age?) and that the food was a bit salty. That said, I will definitely be back!

We decided to try Hong Kong for takeout tonight. We’ve tried several places in NE and much to our disappointment couldn’t find a place that we would visit a second time. We ordered orange chicken, Hunan shrimp, sweet and sour chicken, roast pork fried rice, and vegetable lomein. The food tasted fresh and each dish had its own distinct flavors. The Hunan shrimp sauce had a flavor that we did not really enjoy, but we ended up eating just the shrimp without having it covered with the sauce which made it possible to eat. It wasn’t bad, I just don’t think the flavor was for us. As other reviewers have pointed out, this restaurant only accepts cash… this is a bit of an inconvenience for those who don’t carry cash and who may never see this information prior to their visit. We would consider ordering from here again when wanting takeout in the future.

Quick and courteous service. Good food! An overall deal– except I wish they took credit cards. What’s up with that?

I live right by here and frequent this place when I have a craving. This is one of the best, if not the best, Chinese place I’ve found in DC. They’re open late, which is very helpful for my post-kickball drinking cravings. Definitely looks pretty sketch, but don’t be put off by the décor/lack thereof. The food is amazing! I’ve had the egg rolls, beef lo mein, wonton soup, pork mushu, and General Tso’s chicken. Everything was up to par, and incredibly cheap! I will definitely be eating here regularly and highly recommend!

Cash & Carry only!!! Had the General Tso’s Chicken which was pretty good when you are starving. Wasn’t crispy fried pieces like so many other Chinese Food locations, but that was good. Just soft pillow-like pieces with a helpful heaving of sauce.

I have lived in the area on and off for a few years. I cannot believe I have not stumbled on this place before now. The food is excellent. Since I have found it I have eaten there a few times. The one caution is that they ONLYTAKECASH. It is not a big deal if the Cupboard next door to them is open and their ATM is working but if not you will be out of luck. This place is a great spot regardless. There is no sit down so this is all to go. Enjoy !

It was a late night on the front lines of the battlefield that is the service industry. Finally finding a position to rest I closed my eyes around 8 am. Just to be awoken by construction alarms and family randomly visiting. Who knows how much rest I had gotten(5 hours) but one thing was for sure, i needed back up and stat. I called HK and they had the General Tso flanking the problem right away. That General got me up, motivated, and had me not hating myself for working stupid hours on the weekend. Will I call HK for when I need quick good back up? Absolutely.

They are not hongkongese or Cantonese but in this area not many options. The food is relatively the best here already. Singapore noodle with curry is nice. As Cantonese, the food here doesn’t impress me but I may go back again since I live here.

This is pretty good for Chinese take out in the DC area. Being from LA, I was disappointed to find that Chinese takeout around here isn’t very good. On the west coast, Chinese food is plentiful, cheap, fast, and delicious. I tried their orange chicken combo and boyfriend got the general tsao’s combo for dinner. Combos come with fried rice and an egg roll, and it’s a pretty good deal. I’ll be returning because it’s close to my house, and it’s a reasonable price. Flavors are pretty decent as well. Added pics of the menu, sorry for the shadows!
