What’s not to like about Heads Up? B, the barber who cut my hair, did a great job. He was a consummate professional. The vibe in the shop is welcoming. I say this as a woman who wears a short natural. Barber shops aren’t always friendly to female customers.(One time, a guy on U Street shaved me bald instead of admitting he wasn’t the«regular» barber.) I love the fact Heads Up is open 7 days a week.(But call first.) I love the fact they take credit cards.(XOXO) And, instead of some game on the big screen, or stupid bootleg they were trying to sell, they were playing CBS’ «Face the Nation.»

This is an interesting barbershop in that it’s open 7 days a week. I have never known a black barbershop to be open that many days(usually Sundays and even Mondays are closed), so that’s refreshing. There are lots of chairs to spread out and there’s a few barbers who can all cut hair pretty well. The location is very convenient on NY Ave right near the exit onto 395⁄295. There’s also a Crossfit box next door. This shop accepts both cash and credit/debit which is very convenient. I will likely go here again.

Cool barbershop. Been going here regularly on weekends for a few years now. The lead barber/owner of the barbershop manages a very well-known Go-Go band in DC. Best thing about this barbershop are the reasonable prices and the fact that the barbershop is open EVERY day of the year(including holidays). Also, this is one of relatively few black barbershops in DC that accepts credit cards.(Edit on 2÷5÷15: they stopped accepting credit cards at some point last year so find another barber if you prefer to use credit cards!) The barbers are very chill and laid-back. The place is generally clean and has a couple of large flat-screen TVs you can watch while you wait. One quirk about this place is its the only barbershop I’ve ever been to that houses a parrot(yes, an actual talking parrot) 24⁄7LOL. The barbershop is across the street from the 395 tunnel on New York Avenue in NWDC and only a block or two from Dunbar High. I enjoy coming here for the dependable hours and reasonable prices. Would recommend to anyone…

I grew up having my dad cut my hair my entire life. He knew exactly what I wanted and, best of all, it was free! Now, a college student in DC, I found it difficult finding a barber who manages a respectable business, charges reasonable prices, and CUTSBLACKHAIRWELL! Heads Up gave me the best haircut I have received outside of my kitchen at the best cost. I paid $ 17.00(tip included) for a great haircut and I am definitely going back. DOWNSIDES: The shop could have been alot cleaner. There was hair on the floor, opened and uncorked beauty products strewn across the counter, and bundles of cords protruding from every wall circuit. All in all, it’s definitely worth enduring for a great haircut!

Love this Barbershop! I come in regularly for a shave and trim. The place also a sport’s fan dream with multiple HDTV’s on the NFL network and ESPN. They are normally pretty busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait in line.

This is a barbershop for black men. Nothing aggravates me more than a barber who is doing nothing when I arrive and then suddenly needs to do everything the same time he cuts my hair. Call his girlfriend. Watch TV. Read my newspaper over my shoulder. Yeah, you know what I’m sayin’. Otherwise the place is clean, the service good and the lines short. And they take credit cards. The place also seemed barren, in terms of furniture and decorations making me wonder about the long-term viability, but that’s probably just the lack of a focus on interior design. Not your best option in DC, but it will get the job done at a reasonable price.
