This place is totally not dependable – you never know when it’s open or closed. They only take credit cards if you spend over $ 10 or $ 15, I think, which means you need cash if you’re just buying a sixpack. And on top of that… it seems like they’re running low on stock all the time. Minimal choice of beers, and it doesn’t seem like there’s much behind the counter, either. The place is dingy and not well lit – in a nutshell, not my favorite. There’s another liquor store on 5th and R which is always really well stocked, well lit, and seems to have the same prices.
Hey. what can i say. its an old school corner liquor store. I am a big fan of the bulletproof glass! They are always well stocked on liquor but sometimes seriously lacking in the beer selection. However, all in all I frequent it for its convenience– plus the folks that run it are really friendly and always have conversation for those that are interested.

Convenient, well-stocked, fair prices. And how can you not love the name? My biggest problem with Good Libations, though, would be the hours of operations. Hours aren’t posted outside, and more than once I’ve gone by for a bottle of something or other, and its been locked up… which is unfortunate when Safeway down the road doesn’t sell liquor and I’m in a hurry. Overall, however, Good Libations is a welcomed part of my block.

Liquor store a block away from my apartment = EPICWIN. Yes, when you first walk in it looks like they’re selling out stock before closing — the good stuff is all behind the counter. Clearly the«décor» is a holdover from before this neighborhood got a bit safer. That’s cool, though — I’d rather have convenience, consistently friendly service and good prices than bullcrap«ambiance» jacking up prices with overhead. It’s not like it’s a restaurant, I’m not going to be staying long. 20 seconds is about as long as we need snobby gentrifier types to hang around… any longer and my rent will go up. Only two complaints, really… the phone number listed online isn’t in service, and the hours don’t appear to be posted. Oh, and their site is down. Luckily it’s not too much of a hardship to just go check, but I might have been annoyed if I’d had to walk more than a block.

Good libations at first glance may appear smaller, with a more selective stock of wine, beer and liquor, however tell Ronnie and his super friendly staff what you would like to have stocked in his store and his team will be sure to deliver. I have come across so many good wines and lesser known beers while shopping at GL. I know Safeway is only a few blocks down the street but they carry only your standard drinks and don’t have as friendly of a staff as GL. I typically come into GL with only a slight idea of what both my friends and I are wanting to drink for the night. I typically provide Ronnie with a few details(all girls, only beer lovers, strictly hard liquor) and of course Ronnie provides me with some great suggestions on what to buy. In addition to excellent service, I have come to appreciate all the events GL hosts in the neighborhood. From wine tastings, to boccie ball games, and drinks. GL has also decorated the store with art from local DC artists. And on a side note the reviewer Chris G should clearly reconsider hanging out/living in one of the coolest most diverse neighborhoods in DC which is Mount Vernon Square. if he can’t appreciate a fantastic neighborhood business like Good Libations then he should stick with the fancier/more sterile areas of DC… like Bethesda.

As good as your friendly neighborhood liquor store gets! Ronnie and the staff here always welcome you with a big smile. Lately they’ve hosted some of the best wine tastings in DC, featuring a different theme each month with 4 or 5 varieties, and plenty of fine cheeses and crackers to whet your palate. Great, intimate atmosphere and relaxed owners make this the coolest place to pick up a bottle.

Holy crap, are we talking about the same liquor store? I walked in a couple of weeks ago looking for beer and walked right back out 20 seconds later. This is a straight-up, no-nonsense, scary-ass liquor store, complete with bullet-resistant plexiglass ensconcing the counter. And the beer selection was crap. Basically Bud, Natty Light, and(interestingly) a few singles of Boddington’s in a can. Not much else. Don’t let the clever name fool you into thinking this is fancier than it actually is.

Great service, fully stocked for the snowstorms, and just good people. What more can you ask for from your neighborhood liquor store?
