Dropped off shirts on Tuesday, was told I couldn’t pick them up until Friday evening. I didn’t have time to pick them up on Friday though, so I came on Saturday afternoon. Apparently they won’t have them until at least this evening, and they’re closed tomorrow. I need the shirts for an interview on Monday.(UPDATE: I was able to get the shirts Saturday evening.) Unlike the other reviewers, I found it quite difficult to understand Mrs. Lu’s manner of speech, and at some point during our conversation it seemed like she was saying I couldn’t pick up the shirts for another week. My experiences with other dry cleaners in the area have been much better, even if they’re a little less convenient for me, so this is probably my first and last time using Georgetown Cleaners. She does get an extra star from me for being cheaper than the competition and because my shirts came out fine, but speed and customer service are important to me and I was pretty unsatisfied with both.

I’ve tried 4 or 5 different dry cleaners in Georgetown and Glover Park. This one is the best by far. Stains always come out, clothes are never shrunken. And she does it for half the price of other places. Excellent customer service. She is somehow able to remember every item you brought it, even if she’s only met you once. She keeps track of everything. She’s so friendly and yes, you have to be ready to chat. She’ll make you smile. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

A one-woman cleaning operation, Mrs. Lu operates this hole-in-the-wall dry cleaner almost void of technology, but she typically does an excellent job at dirt-cheap(for Georgetown, anyway) prices. You have to be ready to chat – or at least to listen – when you come into the shop, but if you’re up for the conversation, it’s worth it. The prices are almost 50% less than what you get at the Bergmann’s at Safeway, or most other spots. She also does small tailoring and alterations(hems, buttons, zippers) for extremely reasonable prices. The only reason it gets a star off is because a few weeks ago I got one shirt back with what looks like an iron mark. But in four years, that’s the only casualty we’ve seen.
