For the last several years, I have been a frequent lunchtime customer at the café at the NBM, and I like the food a lot. I have probably gotten about 1 to 2 lunches there each week. For each lunch, I get one or two salads from among the curry chicken, pasta pesto, lentil, and chickpea. I thought the previous price-by-weight prices were a pretty good value, and were truly by weight. I am very disappointed by the recent price changes. First, theyno longer sell by weight — even though the labels imply that the price is by weight, they clearly are not weighing the items, as the labels show all salads of a particular variety as having exactly the same weight. This means that some containers are a better buy than others. Second, the prices seem like they are about 25 to 35 percent higher than before, and it seems like I’m getting about 10 to 20 percent less food for that higher price — the containers are not as full as they used to be. All in all, it is no longer a great value, and I have not been eating there nearly as often as I used to.

(This is the Firehook in the National Building Museum — just for clarification!) I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed by the fact that there was a local business that really impressed me in a museum that I believe is often overlooked but super impressive. Hah! But really, this little oasis was a welcome addition to a day of museum visiting and walking on a hot summer day. The hubs and I had a blast exploring the massive building, then stopped to take a break. I saw people shuffling in and out of this small nook and had never heard of the business, but personally, am always a sucker for some good baked goods and caffeine! I ordered a vanilla latte(hot, as it was COLD in the building!) and a super giant and delicious looking chocolate chip cookie. It was a pretty difficult choice, as every item in the case looked delectable, but I thought I’d gauge the location on an old favorite. It did NOT dissapoint! We split the cookie in two, but I found myself eyeing additional chunks of the chocolatey morsel on my husbands side of the table. I was good though, because I knew that this was an establishment that we would see again — maybe not this particular location, but Firehook nonetheless!
