A hidden gem. How lucky I am to have a new, free, indoor pool about 4 blocks from home. This pool is located inside the brand-new Dunbar high school, and it’s open to the community on the weekends. It’s a relatively small pool though — don’t expect anything Olympic-sized. We’ve been there about 5 times and never saw more than a few other people in the pool. The pool and changing rooms are brand new and clean enough, though I wouldn’t say they’re sparkling clean. The showers can take a long time to warm up — I think this is because there are so few patrons and the water just doesn’t circulate much. So I open the tap before I start changing, and by the time I get to the shower, it is starting to warm up. For those with small children: We’ve gone to the pool with our baby/toddler — there is a handicap changing room that you can use with a stroller. No changing table though, so bring a mat to put on the floor. The women’s changing rooms have a bench that you can use as a makeshift changing table. Otherwise it’s the floor. The cold shower issue mentioned above can be an issue with a baby. The pool has two wide staircases to get into the water, which is awesome. But there is no baby pool.
