The Department of skate did me a solid good! They took my wait into consideration(holiday back up) and offered a cancel or wait it out scenario. I waited 1 more day and they came in. They did still give me a discount. I love my custom skates and I’m glad I didn’t cancel my order. I will go back to the store for sure. Thank you ladies!

I stopped by today at a new Roller Derby Skate Shop that has just been opened in DC, They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the products they’re selling in their store, I bought Bushings, Bearings, Wheels and Knee pads, and I was going to buy a new pair of skates, however after talking to Raptor and Hellie, they gave me a ton of information and suggested that I do more research before deciding on what I needed. I really appreciate that they cared more about me getting the right setup rather than just making a sale.

Department of Skate is finally open! DC’s first skate shop(as in quad skates) had their grand opening today to serve all your roller derby needs. If you’re just starting out or need to upgrade your skates to something a little more competitive, these folks either have it, or can order it. The owners are knowledgeable(DC Rollergirls skaters) and can give you advice on what to look for. I hope to see more derby clothing as they get more established. (Side note: I love existing online skate shops, but I can’t try things on and the shipping costs are killer. I hate paying $ 10 in shipping for a $ 25 skate part.) From derby socks to skater packages to tools to high end bearings, this is the first skate specific store in the DC Metro area. Picked up some Gumball toe stops and bushings for my skates to show support for a new small business, but I’ll definitely be back. Good luck to owners Helena Handbag and Velocityraptor! P. S. Love that their number is 202.642.iSk8
