Department of Health and Human Services

I cannot find a heading for the Affordable Care Act office and customer service, so I’m posting here. The incompetence and sloppiness are mind-​boggling. I’ve had one screw-​up after another when I’ve had to jump through their hoops. At one point it got so bad that I had to contact my U.S. Senator’s office, and they conducted a Congressional inquiry into the matter. Having to deal with that agency actually undermines my health – my blood pressure spikes, I get tension headaches, and I have trouble sleeping. I have the threat hanging over my head of the ACA office screwing things up so badly that they claim I’m not in compliance with the law. This is my government doing this to me. I have no faith in the agency to handle anything, not even the most simple tasks, accurately or competently. What at disgrace. My tax dollars are paying for this mess.

Thanks for everything you do for us and our country your service is much appreciated. Keep up the good work.

the HHS building is surely one of the ugliest buildings in Washington DC. In order to enter, if you are not a worker there, you will have to go through security, including having your photo taken and someone has to be called to escort you through the building

I’ve had the pleasure of working with many wonderful people at HHS. All have been innovative, intelligent people. So, if I was rating the people, they would get five stars. This review, however, is for the cafeteria. Located on the penthouse level of the building, it’s a decent eatery where many of the sandwiches are made to order. They’ve got several stations that serve a variety of hot and cold food and a salad bar.
I went with their daily special — a seafood po’ boy ($ 6.50). It was a generous portion of canned crab mixed with shrimp and mayo, served on a subroll with tomatoes and lettuce. It also came with chips. It may not have been restaurant quality, but it wasn’t bad for cafeteria food.
They get points for having plenty of healthy options (none of which I tried) and they also get points for having a really tasty Heath bar cookie ($ 1.65) that was deliciously chewy.
There were plenty of seats available and, of course, many TV’s set to CNN.

The Mission: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the United States government’s principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. How could you NOT love this.
The men and women I have the pleasure of working with here are modern day Superheros and the woman leading the charge was recently recognized as one of Washington DC’s most powerful women.
When rated against most other DC Departments I’d say HHS is near the top in REAL public service. The vibe here from the top down is all about people. It is one of the few places I have had the pleasure of working that has made me feel like what I did every day matters.
Plain and simple HHS is a first class organization with first class people.
