Food court sushi that doesn’t suck? Food court sushi that’s actually pretty decent?! Food court sushi that’s maybe a little overpriced? Yup. It’s pretty easy to miss Danbine at National Place. It’s off to the side along with the SOHO Café. In fact, it’s sort of a sub-restaurant of SOHO. They’re separated from the main food court at National Place. This is sushi by the pound at about $ 12/lb. Choose wisely, and you can get about 12 pieces of sushi/rolls for that $ 12. You can pick exactly how much you want of what you want. Don’t want an entire rainbow roll? Well, what’s wrong with you? In any case — you can take just one piece of it — or load up your entire plate with nothing but. There is a sushi chef behind the bar constantly making more sushi. Nothing seems to last particularly long, so everything is kept pretty fresh. Of the sushi I’ve had, everything was decent. I’ve, of course, had better — but this was a pleasant surprise. They use no wasabi in any of the sushi — but you can add your own. Besides sushi, they also offer dumplings, egg rolls, salads, and a few other standard Japanese restaurant items — again — by the pound. My wife had the seaweed salad and found it to be a little disappointing. If you spend more than $ 9 on sushi, you’re allowed to take a cup/bowl of miso soup. It’s clearly just a mix they buy. It’s very watery and pretty bland. I would probably feel a little ripped off if I had had to pay for the soup, but it’s pretty much free. Danbine is probably not going to satiate your sushi cravings. The quality just isn’t quite there — but it makes for a decent, if slightly expensive lunch.
