A good local spot. Four stars for the portion of food, friendly service, and convenience if you live near 12th street. It’s an older, small diner with old-school board menus and a TV mounted up top on a corner. The server at the register was friendly and personable, and included ketchup packs, napkins and forks with my order without asking for any. I ordered a bacon burger with a side of fries and this came out to $ 10.16. While the patty wasn’t the best you can get/Five Guys quality, the portion size makes up for it. You can also get any kind of topping you want(at least, I asked for tomatoes, lettuce, grilled onions, and mayo without any issue). The fries were crispy and crinkle cut, not sure if they’re fresh cut, but got the job done to satisfy my #Blizzard2016 cravings for restaurant food. I wish I tried their breakfast combos but since I live so close by, I will be back.

Everything was great, prices were more than fair. I did not expect the food and service from the looks of the outside but I was more than happy I decided to go

I had already found my breakfast spot in Brookland, but now this spot has me floored and now I’m downright confused. Brookland Grill is one of those places that could use a bit of a facelift on the outside AND inside so when you first walk into the place, you’re like — hmmm… i know the reviews were good, but am i sure that i want to eat here? The answer: Yes. you. do! I ordered the steak and eggs(OE), double home fries as i am not a fan of grits, white toast with butter — about $ 7+/-, and my friend ordered the egg breakfast, scrambled eggs with the same sides as me, +/-$ 6. I asked for a glass of ice water and the guy at the counter told me that either there was water for purchase in the cooler behind me or tap water. Still being a newbie in DC, i’ve heard about some water issues around the DMV area, so I opted for the water in the cooler(DeerPark, 1.5 lt/$ 2). The server at the counter called for us to grab our order. I asked for hotsauce and ketchup and was handed the bottles from behind the counter — it had all of the crud of dried sauces on top of it — ehhh, not a fan of this. I wiped it clean and prepared my plate. First, I took a bite of the steak — oh, my! Seasoned just right, no need for the steak sauce provided. I cut into my eggs, letting them ooze over the edges of my steak and mixing with a little homefries, ketchup, and hotsauce — perfect bite! And so was every bite after that one. I cannot wait to go again.

Can you say hole-In-the-wall dive!?! Limited tables, mostly take out. All food served in styrofoam containers. Was pleasantly at the portions when we opened ours to see a large portion of hash browns and a large omelette. My daughter and I could have split one if we had known. She got the Greek and said it was full of veggies. I got cheese, bit ended up with ham & cheese. Ok with me. Waffles and pancakes smelled wonderful. And they were doing quite a business while we were there.

The hot cakes here are always on point. And the best thing about waffles and pancakes here is that the banana or chocolate chip is mixed into the batter and cooked. Some people like it on top, I like it this way. Me and my girlfriend always come here for breakfast and we never spend much more than $ 11 for both of us. Keep in mind, I am ordering eggs, sausage or some meat, toast and grits. They also have ice cream and milkshakes, but I haven’t tried them.

Good food for decent prices but service leaves a lot to be desired. Both slow and borderline rude.

Had a solid sausage, egg & cheese on a crossaint. Eggs were cooked well and the sausage wasn’t greasy. My friend had the same but on a bagel — I would definitely recommend the flakey crossaint. My other friend had the ‘Grandpa Special’ chicken fried steak. He really enjoyed the gravy, but said the steak was a fatty cut and a bit too salty. The cashier was rather aloof and barely looked me in the eye. I probably would get my food to go next time. However there was a pretty sweet infomercial on TV and I was hungover, so I didn’t mind sticking around and waiting the 10+ minutes for my sammy.

Food is good. I had a sandwich here that I really liked, it was like a veggie cheesesteak. The breakfast looks awesome, and it’s not terribly expensive. Docking a couple stars because they could be a little nicer.

I stopped in to satisfy my lunch cravings and went for breakfast instead. I was overly excited to know they served breakfast all day. I ordered the platter with bacon, grits, potatoes, eggs and toast. The total was around $ 6.00 and I was pleased with that as well. The smell that was wafting from the bag made my mouth water. I got home and let’s just say the rest is history. I will be eating here again.

***The Cons: The guy who takes your order has a horrible attitude, is not friendly and acts as if you are bothering him by simply placing an order. They charge an extra 50¢ for lettuce on a sandwich. He wasn’t very nice when he made mention of this. The food took forever, and the guy behind the cash register was very unapologetic about this. It’s a little sketchy looking on the inside, but your typical hole in the wall with good food. So, I guess I began ***The Pros a little prematurely… but since we’re on the subject — the food was actually good. I had a turkey, egg & cheese sandwich(with the additional 50¢ shred of lettuce). The turkey was far from deli meat. It was thick and flavorful. What a pleasant surprise. my gf had the French Toast(which she claims was«amazing») Sampler with bacon, ham & sausage… She’s such a carnivore. She claims everything was delicious. Not a very welcoming atmosphere and since I’m not one to patronize a place with such poor customer service, I don’t think I’ll ever eat here again. But if you’re not one to be bothered by discourtesy, I’d still suggest calling in an order & picking it up.

I love me a greasy spoon neighborhood joint and remembered this place when I went to have breakfast with a friend. The home fries looked and tasted like elmers paste. Mushy, anemic, and disgusting. Sorry, but in my book you can’t call yourself a grill if you don’t know what home fries are… and the Koreans running this place were obvious oblivious on the concept. I recommend they go out and actually eat some real home fries. The sausages were like brickettes. The eggs were ok, but it’s hard to mess those up. Too bad. These neighborhood joints are a rare breed. I wish they were more committed to upholding the concept.

I went there with a few friends for lunch and had a pleasant experience. I got a tuna melt with fries that was really good. I loved that the fries came with salt and pepper on them. One of my friends got a brownie a la mode and it was awesome! It was absolutely delicious and it was pretty big. I almost bought one myself(but I was pretty full from my own meal).

Glad I Scout Mobbed here. Something has changed with this place and not for the better. Everything is still bathed in grease. The waffles, the eggs, the bacon. Yes, I am convinced they put grease on the bacon. Blergh. But the owner has a bad attitude now. Like I said, I’m glad I scoutmobbed here. Because between grease on the food and the owner’s attitude about scoutmob deals, I’ve experienced better. Waaaay better. Blergh.

So I work at the nearby hospital and was hungry as hell for something OTHER than cafeteria grade food. I took my chances and dialed up Brookland Grill(after, of course, reading fellow Unilocaler reviews). Figured I’d start with something basic and an easy enough meal that is pretty hard to screw up, a cheeseburger and fries. I was pleasantly surprised when I got my order. They gave me the basic 20 minute window but it was ready and hot within 15 minutes. I noticed that when I ordered, the guy asked me what I wanted on my fries. Puzzled, I said«Salt and pepper?» Wouldn’t you know the dude actually put s&p on my fries! Pricewise, I apparenlty had an outdated menu and realized that once my meal came to a lil more than what I had expected(about $ 8/$ 9 with tax). However, once I opened up my container and realized the burger was almost as big as my face and the fries were plentiful I didn’t complain. So as far as «burger and fries» price margin goes in the city, they were right on point(It also helps when you get the combo). I thouroughly enjoyed my meal, my fries never got soggy and my burger tasted fresh just like a «back yard» burger might taste. I also love that I didn’t get«the itis» after I ate. While I’ve had much better burgers from more popular places this place will definitely see me again. Definitely worth a try.

I LOVE the pulled pork sandwich topped with sole slaw. Mouth watering as I type. This has become my favorite lunch spot. They also have a great breakfast, but I am not much of a morning eater. I also love the smoothies. The mixed fruit smoothie is my favorite. Delicious, and colorful. lol My only complaint — a/c sucks. Air does not move thru that place. Don’t expect to be cooled off on a hot summer day. They have ceiling fans, but they don’t turn them on. IDK why. I told him I would start an a/c donation fund for him. He just laughed. I’d really do it. Anything to eat my pulled pork sandwich and fruit smoothie in comfort.

Brookland Grill is the epitome of «hole in the wall» joints. They have everything — I mean everything — from breakfast to dinner and in between. What’s nice is the prices are super low, but it’s one of those kinda places you don’t wanna look around because you might see something that prevents you from eating here… Customer service wasn’t the best. In fact, if I owned it that would be my first place fo improvement. Customer service and quality food is what keeps the neighbors coming back in. I had a burger and it reminded me of a burger right off the grill at someones cook-out. YUM! Bottom line — don’t come in expecting too much but if you’re looking for something fast and cheap in the hood, try them out.
