It makes me so sad to write this. I found this little shop when it was Pound the Hill. They had the best Nutella scones and coffee. The service was also great. Now it is a shell of that. The worse is the Nutella scones being gone or bad. I had one that tastes like burnt chocolate. I was so excited when I moved one block down from here recently only to always leave disappointed and go to Starbucks. I know this is a first world problem but you all really shouldn’t have fixed what wasn’t broken — the food and coffee. Maybe it will get better :/

I honestly really like this place. I usually only come here when I have an eyelash or eyebrow appointment, as both salons are located upstairs, but I always enjoy my time. Bourbon gives off some really good vibes. Lots of wood and decorations to enhance the Rwandan theme, as they serve Rwandan coffee blends. A really good place to kick back and relax after a long day of work, or alternatively to catch up on some work, as they offer free wifi. I’ve been on a casual coffee date here before and really enjoyed myself — definitely a chill atmosphere. The baristas are ALWAYS very sweet and always go out of their way to make conversation, which doesn’t go unappreciated and really gives the place that cozy feel that most coffee shops strive for. The nutella latte is delicious! Great cappuccinos as well.

Sometimes, the best things are enjoyed at a slower pace… I stopped by, in a hurry after a doctors appointment, for a quick cup o’ Joe before heading back to the office… but before you know it… I found a hour had past in the process. Yes, I got caught up in the moment of enjoying a hellalicious’ Dark Chocolate — Nutella Latte and lounging to a couple of tracks to the likes of Lauryn Hill, Adele, Erykah Badu, U2… and the list goes on. This place is the former ‘Pound the Hill’ coffee shop. It has a different vibe and layout, but I really dig this place! It’s a cool meeting spot for some eats or a quiet cup of coffee for sure. Bourbon Coffee offers up an interesting mix of sustainable sourced coffee from around the world, blended beverages and food items. An added plus, is that this place offers Breakfast for lunch! SOLD… My favorite kind of eats. And, I can eat it all day…‘Holla if ya feel me!’ From the moment you enter this place, you become drawn into how relaxing and calm the environment is. There’s lots of seating, work tables, lounge areas and eclectic spaces in this now transformed Capitol Hill Historic row-home turned store front. The place is wired and WiFi connected as well. I know because I am riding that wave, while I type this review. I found myself in a sofa space social media-lizing, people watching, sipping on a drink, and feeling like I did not have anymore pressing things to handle for the day! And, believe me… I do! I guess until the day comes that I can scratch that lucky winning lotto ticket, become filthy rich, and wake up to no demands(i.e. work, the grind, etc.)…A place and moments like this will do! Thanks Pound the Hill for adding some relaxation to my crazy day! The Dark Chocolate– Nutella Latte was really good too… not too sweet… just right! A sudden, quick stop before heading back to the office turned into an…“Oops my bad…‘über extended’ lunch break!” I reckon I will have to explain this one to folks in the office for sure. LOL I did not try the food this time around, but I will definitely be back to partake in their eats… P. S. Bourbon Coffee… your Pandora playlist and Chicken Pesto Panini is on my radar!

Needs more staff. Just watched a few people wait and then leave while cashier/barista/dishwasher was in the back. There are currently 12 people in line and they’re all antsy.

Nutella latte. Mmmmm!!! Grabbed one of these while walking around Capitol Hill and it really hit the spot. I asked for less Nutella because I don’t like my lattes too sweet and the hint of hazelnut chocolatey goodness was just right. The baristas were friendly, coffee came out fast, plenty of seating and wifi, and there’s also a food menu. Seems like a cool spot to study or chill. Only gripe is that the lattes are on the pricy side. $ 6 for my medium latte with almond milk.

Great ambiance, more seating than what you think at first, and so nice! I’m not sure if I would order food here(never have) but the Honey Cinnamon latte tasted like a graham cracker in a cup. It was perfect! Smooth, creamy, and just sweet enough that you wouldn’t get sick of it. It was surprisingly light for a latte too — I didn’t feel as if I just drank a syrup filled flavor drink. Didn’t stay and sit so I’m not sure how the noise level really is or if it’s a good place to get work done. Just walked in, got the drink(which was prepared quickly too) and left. Very nice staff — worth it to stop in if you want a coffee before perusing Eastern Market!

Uncomfortable metals chairs. Wifi was not working two out of three visits. Bad lighting. Music(weird mix of alternative/Pop rock) too loud. They stop brewing coffee and basically stop service 45 minutes before closing. Plenty of seating, free water, clean bathroom.

OK coffee, but what a difference an attitude problem makes.

Nice spot. They make sandwiches for pick-up. I give them a call 15 mins before I expect to get there, my sandwich is good to go.

What a difference a name change makes… Bourbon Coffee, previously known as «Pound the Hill»…has seemingly gone down that proverbial hill they ditched in their former moniker. While the menu stayed the same for the most part… EXCEPT for the fact that they took their tastiest item off it… the TATERTOTS… I ordered my usual… the Chicken Pesto Sandwich. This sandwich USED to be awesome. Key word… USED to. I waited 20 minutes for a HOT sandwich that came out with COLD chicken on it, that was clearly slopped together. Thoroughly disgusted… safe to say I will NEVER return. Prices went up too… guess that’s the cost to peel the stickers off the door to read«Bourbon Coffee». Fool me once… yall know the rest.

Decent coffee, terrible service. The hippie«barista» had the worst attitude ever. He literally ignored me for three minutes as he was doing god knows what behind the counter. I was first on line and a group of three women were behind me. The three women left after a few minutes because the guy didn’t even acknowledge our presence. I gave it another minute and then I walked out. I was standing outside for a moment, and then decided to go back in because there realistically weren’t any other quick options. I had wanted to grab a cup of coffee and get some reading in. So as I go back in, I overhear the guy say: «Ha, I knew she’d be back.» Seriously dude? So you’re reveling in the fact that you’re a complete apathetic d-bag? I will refrain from disparaging him further. It’s just too easy. Oh yea, and Jerry Garcia served up my steaming cup of joe in a chipped ceramic mug. Small coffee, hold the bacteria s’il vous plaît.

Not exaggerating when I say this is possibly one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. This is a great place to study and relax. I really love this little café!

This is a very small coffee shop but their breakfast, pastries, and coffee are great. The prices are very affordable and staff is super nice. I would definitely recommend stopping by. Try the turkey sausage and egg sandwich. The place is right across from Eastern Market. Enjoy!

While the coffee is still good, the prices have gone up. The jury is still out on whether the remolding will create a homey place to drink coffee and enjoy some quiet. Time will tell. At these prices, I’m not likely to come back.

I may be the only person on Capital Hill that is glad Pound is now Bourbon Coffee. With the arrival of Bourbon Coffee, the snotty management of Pound went away. Now I can order the amazing nutella iced latte attitude free. There’s decent free wifi here and an outdoor patio with plenty of seats. It’s a great place to study or work on the weekends.
