My office always goes here for happy hour, so I’m rating that — crummy. The bartenders are usually slow and always grumpy/pissy, even if I tip them well on each beer. There aren’t any good happy hour deals, and it seems like the tap beers are always skunky or out, and the bottles don’t hold up much better. For example, last time I was there, Sierra Nevada tasted awful, Newcastle was out, Shock Top was out, and Yuengling tasted off. Then I got a Bass in a bottle and still tasted kind of weird. The only positive thing is that it looks nice, but it’s often crowded, so who cares. I recommend pretty much any other bar around there for happy hour.

I’ve been here a couple times and both times has been very underwhelming. The place has good service and a cool bartender that looks like he’s been bartending fancy restaurants his whole life. I wish I could say the same about the food. I don’t think the place knows what salt and pepper is, and I swear they may use Velveeta for their jalapeño cheddar mac and cheese. The first time I came, I had the shrimp bisque(soup du jour) and the lobster roll sandwich. The shrimp bisque was really watery and bland. The lobster roll had decent flavor, but it was on a hot dog bun. That just cheapened the sandwich. Why put lobster on cheap bread? It’s like when Paris Hilton had her reality show where she was out in the wild. It’s a novel idea and a funny experiment, but everyone knows it’s just not right. The last time I came I got the aforementioned velveeta and noodles with barely any diced jalapeño(not spicy at all, nor do you taste the peppers) and the beef sliders. Holy crap, if I thought this place failed with other items on the menu, these sliders skipped bad and went straight to stay the hell away! The buns were dry and over toasted and the meat varied in each slider. The first two I bit into the meat was way overcooked and the last it was raw. And I’m not exaggerating when I say it was raw — the stuff could have still been alive if it wasn’t so cold. EW. Anyhoo, I say stay away unless you’re a tourist and don’t feel like walking anymore for food. I suggest the crab cakes. I’ve tried them before and the cakes aren’t too bad, but ask for the remoulade on the side b/c they pile it on. I need a drink after this review. It’s making me upset remembering my experiences here. P. S. The lighting is horrendous inside as well.

At this dimly lit little subterranean venue(on the site of the former John Harvard’s Brew Pub) I(and various coat-tail riding office mates) have achieved«Norm» status at happy hour. When I walk in, 5 out of 7 staff members(waitstaff, servers, bartenders, maitre d’) greet me by my first name and want to know how I’m doing. Yessssss! I’ve always wanted that. Sometimes, depending on the bartender, a magical glass of sauvignon blanc appears in front of me without a mumbling word from me. Even more magical than that, the glass stays full until I leave the premises. This happy hour also features deep-sea discounts on calamari, crabcakes, oysters, and martini-of-the-day. I have been here for dinner as well, but unlike the folks who had to hurry off to the theater, I had nowhere to go but home, thus the wait for the check was neither noted nor a problem.

I haven’t eaten at Blue Point for dinner, but Happy Hour is worth the visit to this subterranean spot. Where else in DC can you get a dirty martini for $ 5 and a strong one at that. The bartenders are friendly once you get their attention. On most days, the bar is empty but if you happen upon it on a day when there’s a show at the National Theater, you’re going to be in for a fight. The HH food is pretty good too.

I’ve apparently hit a spate of lame bars of late. Bluepoint is on that list. The boy and I attempted to visit Chef Geoff’s across the street from the Warner Theatre before A Bronx Tale, but that was a complete cluster(in the packed sort of way), so we headed back across the street and down the stairs to the subterranean bar at Bluepoint. It should have been a warning sign when we sidled up to the bar and it took about ten minutes for a bartender to acknowledge us. It made me feel a little better to see that most other patrons were also being equally almost-disregarded. Awesome. Equal opportunity get-to-it-when-I-get-to-it attitude. A conversation about Chimay(that’s listed on their bar menu): Me: I’d like a Chimay, please. Bartender: We don’t have that right now. Me: Oh — like, it’s out? Or you no longer carry it at all? Bartender: Don’t know, we don’t have it right now. … later on … Boy to server lady: Hey, so… Chimay’s on the menu, but it doesn’t seem to be served here. Any idea what the deal is with it? Server: I’ve been here for about two months, and I’ve never seen it. Maybe it was too expensive to keep a keg of it. There are a couple things on the menu that aren’t served. Us: Oh. The $ 13 calamari served with two types of dipping sauce were rubbery. The $ 14 trio of sliders had decent cuts of sirloin meat cooked just right, but even with the gorgonzola, it was uninspired. I’d rather just get the sliders at Matchbox. We postulated that this place is still in business because of overflow from Chef Geoff’s. For a decent meal at a reasonable price, I’d rather head around the corner to Potbelly’s.

The food was good and the service was OK. We had time, but needed to leave and the check took a very long time. They didn’t have enough wait staff for a Friday evening. We made the show on time, but only by luck. For the price, the food could have been much better and the service was severely lacking. A large party with a lot of time on a company account might be a winner here but if you have somewhere to go afterward, forget Blue Point.

Why is this place still in business? I eat the cheeseburger when I’m dragged there by coworkers. The water is good. Service good. Wish they had a menu. The mac and cheese is worse than Krafts.

Went here for drinks when this place first opened about 8 months ago and promised to come back for dinner after meeting a nice bartender. Just went last night for dinner and the place was dead but then again it was a Monday night in August. The food was amazing! The horseradish crusted salmon is amazing and the Grilled Scallops were phenomenal. Our waitress was very nice and conversational as well and obviously had time to give recommendations since we were 1 of 2 customers. We were going to go to Ruth’s Chris earlier in the night but really glad we picked this place. In my opinion, it’s underrated and undiscovered! Can’t wait to go again!

I don’t like Bluepoint’s happy hour anymore. It got really crowded and noisy and hot, full of summer interns. The food’s not that good anymore(although still $ 3 and cheap). Last time I went, the calamari was soggy and cold and they ran out of bread for the filet sliders… so these tiny morsels of meat would come out on a halved kaiser roll. Lame. They also changed the bartenders. Disappointing.

We ate here on our recent trip to D. C a couple of days ago. I ordered some seafood creole soup that was awful. The waiter didnt really even know what exactly was in it. I sent it back. My boyfriend had a Kolby burger which he loved. The place was pretty dead for a saturday night.

Well, I am going to have to return here again because this experience was SO bad, I am still in awe. We arrived about 7PM. About 7:05 we had our drink order and food order taken. As we sat waiting it became apparent that several people had been waiting a long time. Since, we had a show at Warner at 8PM, I asked about our appetizers at 7:25. A salad and some fillet sliders medium. I was told that the temperature of the meat meant that the food need to cook properly and the salad would only come out at the same time as the sliders. I knew better so I asked the manager to check on the food. He did. Sure enough our order had been stamped«done» and was not even being made. He expedited the order and told us the whole meal was on him.(good save.) We got our appetizers about 5 minutes later.(I told you sliders didn’t take 20 minutes to cook. About 10 til 8 our server comes to our table to confirm we had not received our entrees. He said the kitchen said they already gave us our food. Since they had not in fact given us our meals, we NEVER got dinner. We paid for our drinks and rushed up to the show. The restaurant looks nice and had a nice menu. That is what the one star is for. I would have given 2 stars if we had actually received our meal. By the way, Bluepoint is brought to you by the owners of Bar Louie.
