Order placed at 134pm for a canzone and salad. The place is 4 blocks away. Had to cancel the order at 310pm because it was not delivered. The driver wouldn’t call my phone, I had to keep calling the shop for delivery. Customer service on the phone was good, Tommy was polite and professional but the food was not delivered, the ninja turtles would have gotten 3 free deliveries in the time it took this place!

Overcooked pizza and the employee was brushing the oven with a big brush while there were pizza inside. Everybody was laughing joking but no attention to customers. 5 behind counter nobody asked if we were served… Pizza was full of dust from oven like a carbonated topping ! Nice decoration brand new installations but thats all… dont look that employees are hearth involved in that buisness, they just dont care.

Not that great. Took nearly 15 minutes to get my pizza. The whole place was extremely unorganized and didn’t work together as an assembly line. The pizza wasn’t correct and I had to get him to fix it(the timing mentioned doesn’t include that). The food didn’t end up being that great. Seems like they are trying to compete with &pizza but so far not winning. I likely won’t return.

As soon as you walk in you can tell this will be an experience. I observed 5 young men walking around, laughing, and joking behind the counter. In the food production area only 2 had hats and aprons as well. The cashier leaned on the counter to take every order and one had on jeans and his pants Kept saying he had to keep pulling them up. The food was nasty the dough was overcooked and the cheese was not melted enough neither were the topping cooked thoroughly. I’ve worked in the pizza industry for 14 years so call me biased but I know a quality pizza. How can you flash cook a pizza in. 2 minutes? I was recommended to try this place by a coworker and I should take them the receipt to pay for my meal.

When I went here for the first time earlier this summer, the pizza was fantastic. I had such a great experience I started telling all my friends and co-workers about this place. In the past few months, however, the quality seems to be declining. I can’t eat tomato sauce, so I only order 2 types of pizzas from here: Proscuitto e Fungi with garlic sauce and the Quattro Formagi. The ingredients are fresh and I like the personal size pizza that’s not to thick. Usually I can split this in 2 meals unless I’m really hungry. The staff is usually friendly and patient; they have great customer service. I say the quality seems to be declining because a few months ago when I ordered pizza for lunch, the bottom of the pizza was charred black. I chalked it up to the possibility of lunch rush. The next time, I ordered Proscuitto, one of their specials, and they forgot the proscuitto(luckily I checked the box before taking it back to the office). A few times the cashier forgot to ask me what type of crust I wanted and I got the default traditional instead of wheat. Last week I came for dinner and ordered the Quattro Formagi and the pizza was so salty and soggy, it’s the first time I didn’t finish the pizza and didn’t want to take the unfinished parts home. Plus, the store had gnats that made for an unpleasant dining experience. Finally, today, when picking up my last 2 slices, I discovered the order receipt with it’s carbon copy on the bottom of my pizza — I don’t know how it got underneath my pizza, but it wasn’t nice to know that I was slicing up a receipt with my pizza. I did tell one of the staffers about it and he said he would mention it to the crew because it wasn’t right that the order receipt was left on the tray while they made the pizza. It’s really too bad because there aren’t a lot of great pizza places in D.C. and I consider Black Iron’s pizzas better than the chains here. But the quality of service on making the pizza(not the quality of ingredients or the staff themselves) is declining and a turn off to what could be one of the best pizza places in town. It’s almost like they are careless in making the pizza and that makes me hesitant to refer friends to Black Iron anymore. I will probably only go when my friends wants to go, but other than that I don’t think I’ll be back on my own volition.

Great pizza spot in the &pizza mold — fresh, fast, tasty and inexpensive. A full pizza for around $ 10 was enough for 2 people. They have win and beer and Black Iron Pizza is also conveniently located on the corner next to the Warner Theatre and just a few blocks from the Washington Monument and White House. As an added bonus, they also had bottles of sriracha out for you to add some more flavor/spice to your pizza. This is a great spot for a quick, cheap, convenient meal.

Solid pizza place, make your pizza to order, cook it quickly in a super hot rotating oven. Good selection of toppings, and the crust came out alright.

Just went here yesterday, got the basic margherita pizza. This is now one of my favorite new pizza spots in DC for a number of reasons– 1) It’s fresh AND it’s fast as hell. Don’t get me wrong, I love &pizza and matchbox, but the wait at those places is just a bit too long for me. I grew up in NJ, where the longest you’ll wait for a great slice of pizza is a minute at the most, as they cut your slice from the pie and toss it back in the oven to warm it up a bit for you. The wait time here is comparable to that traditional wait time, however here you’re getting it fresh and custom. 2) The cheese and the dough are high quality. I’ve never been able to put my finger on exactly why the pizza in DC isn’t up to par with the pizza in NJ and NY, but it definitely has something to do with the dough and cheese. Although this isn’t a traditional slice of pizza in the NYC-sense of the word, it’s damn good pizza. The menu is a bit overwhelming at first, just because you have so many choices, but once you take a good look at it, there’s certainly something on here that’s exactly what you’re looking for. Will definitely be back again.

Stopped in here today and ordered a pizza, calzone and a house salad. Service was fast and friendly and they patiently answered my many questions about toppings, sauces, etc. While I enjoyed the pizza, my friend was served a burnt calzone! We had to go up and ask the gentleman behind the counter to scrape the burnt crust off so it would be edible. He didn’t offer to remake the calzone until he brought back the scraped calzone back to us, which we ate because we hate wasting food. Point is, this calzone should have never been served to us in that state in the first place and the guy should have just remade it the moment I brought it back…

We bumped into this place heading back to our hotel from the White House. The pizza was amazing! The service was great. They were very helpful and even gave my son a free ice cream when they found out it was his b-day. Highly recommended!

I don’t normally give 5 stars, but when I do, I give them to places like Black Iron. The gluten free crust is nothing short of magical. Being health conscious, I struggle to find places that actually accommodate to the fact that healthy does not mean tasteless. Outside of that, everything I’ve ever had is delicious and the staff are fantastic. Kudos to this hidden gem.

Went back to Black Iron today and this time I tried the Proscuitto con Funghi pie. Again, very solid pizza — a perfect $ 10 lunch. I am again docking them a star for the service, which in this case was lackadaisical at best. But the ‘za is good! Nice chewy crust and quality toppings.

Had a group of 40 people, they reserved a great space for us and had no problem making sure we had continuous pizzas! They even went out and bought birthday candles for one of our guests and made her an amazing dessert pizza! I highly recommend Black Iron Pizza and a big thank you to Jesse and his team!!!

Note to my vegan readers: nothing for you here, head over to &pizza and they’ll take care of you. To the rest of you, I certainly wouldn’t dissuade you from the competition, but if you find yourself here, you probably won’t be disappointed. There are really a lot of these fast casual pizza places opening up right now; this one is holding itself out as being more of a Neapolitan pizza. I have to say, the result was not as good as the better Neapolitan ones around DC, the preparation not as perfect. But the ingredients tasted legit to me. They offer calzones as well as pizzas, which I decided to try for a lark. The outside ended up a tad beyond the ideal level of char and the cheese inside wasn’t perfectly melted(those expensive ovens the Neapolitan places have must be worth something). However, the cheese was full-flavored, that’s for sure and they offer quite a few esoteric cheese options(puzzles me that non-dairy is not among them). Their jalapenos were quite hot and de-seeded it seemed, and I’m not enough of a mushroom expert to know what they were, but the exotic mushrooms were good enough for me. It’s basically you get a plain pizza for a low price or pay a higher price and get up to five toppings. The place is really on E street just east of where it hits Pennsylvania; the address is confusing. The interior is an odd design; seating is sort of in a ring around the open kitchen. I imagine it fills on weekdays, because it’s surrounded by huge federal buildings and because it’s quite good.

This is one of those now popular fast casual pizza places. You select your crust type, cheese type, your toppings, and they throw it in the oven for what seems like about 5 – 10 minutes. A few toppings cost extra but otherwise for $ 9 you can load up with as many as you want or select from their prearranged options. I went ahead and tried the whole wheat crust(I’d recommend), mozzarella cheese, and spicy sausage, red peppers, black olives, and onion. The pizzas are«individual» but pretty large so it’s either a big lunch or something two people can split depending on your appetite and ability to stay awake back at the office. It wasn’t too crowded at lunch so I was able to get a table, but I think I just got lucky as the place isn’t huge I can imagine it filling up easily. I was very impressed with my pizza and will be back here next time I’m wanting a top notch pizza for lunch. Just don’t schedule any afternoon meetings if you plan to eat the whole thing, you’ll need a nap!

Similar in concept to & pizza there are some things I like better here and some things I don’t like as much. The good. Toppings. More choices here including pineapple and prosciutto(up charge). Quieter and less crowded with more seating. The not as good. Crust here and overall taste is not on the & Pizza level and for some reason. I’ll try a different crust next time and see if it makes a difference. Overall having 2 gourmet pizza places within walking distance is a good problem to have although my waistline would not agree! Where’d my six pack go??? &pizza is the better option but if you don’t want to wait in line or want to sit down and eat instead of taking it back to your desk then give it a try. So why the 4 star rating for both? Because I’m not quite ready to bump &pizza to 5 or drop Black Iron to 3 and since we can’t give half stars here we are. &Pizza 4.5 Black Iron 3.75 lol

We loved our trip to DC, but we totally hated the food and the transportation. This was another spot along our trip that just made us feel the food here is pretty awful. We were walking down in and around the tourist spots and it was all chain restaurants. This was the first option that we had never heard of. We saw that they have a pizza done in 2 minutes, so I was like this will work as a quick option. We ordered one Pizza Flamme, and it took almost 10 minutes to get it. It did smell wonderful, but the pizza itself was just meh. The sauce was wayyyyy too salty and the dough was kind of chewy.

I went to Black Iron Pizza this week. The staff was friendly, but the lines and the wait were very long(during lunch hours). The outer pizza crust was good and crunchy, but the inside was soggy and the size of the crust was not persistent. I had to use a knife and for in order to eat the pizza, because the more towards the middle, the soggier the pizza got; I wasn’t able to pick up the pizza with my hands. The ingredients seemed to be fresh, which is a plus! The pizza has about a 7.5 inches diameter. I tried the mozzarella pizza. Would I go back? Unlikely.

Great ingredients that you pick are put together by staff behind the counter in an assembly-line process. The pizza is then seared to finish in an open brick oven. Personal pizza made easy and quite delicious! They don’t scrimp on the exquisite toppings, which are really generous and tasty. You also get a choice of crusts. Two cautions: (1) The assembly line system behind the counter looks scaaa-ry. There is a lot of action going on with workers appearing to fall over each other, peer at tiny order slips, and worried expressions about whether they got the orders straight. This is no efficient Japanese Honda plant. (2) If you have a line of folks out the door(as lunch rush lines tend to be) then be prepared for ingredients to be missed because aforementioned assembly line looks more like a frenzied hubub of Santa’s helpers. If you are clever enough to come early for lunch, then enjoy your delicious ingredient-topped pizza. I would say this is a welcome addition to the downtown lunch scene. Pizza prep ingredient choices not only include a suite of sauces/cheeses/meats and veggies but also a finishing glaze. Hello! Balsamic on anything! Garlic oil! An elegant touch. One point to note is that pizza is only as good as the care with which it is prepared. If the assembly line workers are sloppy you don’t get as good of a result. The owners should really insist on more careful pizza preparation. Otherwise its slop on a crust.

Affordable and tasty create your own pizza that’s convenient to Metro Center/Federal Triangle. My first time I got a «safe» pizza with pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and garlic, but next time I want to try some of their more exotic toppings. Eggs on a pizza sounds very interesting. The employees were welcoming and friendly, and the folks making the pizzas were eager to explain the process. There’s not much seating, but with spring finally here, you can get a pizza to go and eat it outside somewhere.
