If I could give a 0 it would have been what I rated. It started as a decent night with great music & subpar drinks. Female guest aren’t checked at all but males are giving tsa pat downs. Attend for a family friends birthday having a great time until the overly aggressive security guard snatched the birthday girl out of the bathroom saying she was taking too long to use it(wtf who made you the bathroom police? It 1 toilet in the building & you sell water down drunks what do you expect peep not to use it?) he pushed & manhandled her like she a rag doll. When questioned by others in the group about his actions he became aggressive & walked off as them party processed to exit. Why is your security staff drinking on the job? The said security guard began to antagonize guest of our party as we exited. That’s unprofessional & grounds for them to be reported to alcohol board. As 1 of a few free & ethnic spot on H St Avery needs to do better before they are closed for good!!!

Not worth the late night $ 20 for the top floor but if you want hip hop and trap music this is the place to go. Never have I ever paid to bar hop around H street but I did for my friends birthday. Avery’s plays the more ratchet hip hop which I can appreciate but IMO it’s not worth paying to get in. If you are a fan of hip hop then this is a decent place to go but it’s not worth paying IMO. Check it out before the cover and make it worth your while.

I love supporting local businesses, and this one is a must. I enjoy the small, cozy space and rooftop the most. You get a great view of the city, and there’s a bar up there as well – WIN. Friday and Saturday nights are the best. The DJs are always great. Leave your heels at home! This place is for those who are anti-wallflower life.

typical DC spot with a rooftop nothing extremely special about this place but I was surprised how much H Street has going on.

They have a rooftop bar and they had $ 6 hennesy for happy hour. The music is a mix of 90’s/00’s party hits with some new music thrown in. A great place to dance if the right crowd is there. Drinks are strong. A lot of people were well dressed. The food options were basic wings, thats about it. We didn’t eat there. I would return as I have before for drink specials and nice music.

My friends and I decided to branch out and try out Avery’s since we usually frequent the same bar for HH. We came on a Wednesday which wasn’t the best day to try out a new bar in retrospect. There were only a couple people there when we arrived. We ordered the wings and fries from the nonchalant bartender and they were okay. My friend didn’t particularly enjoy the company of the people there so we didn’t stay long. One of the ladies at the end of the bar had a giant drink that looked absolutely delicious. Unfortunately we left before we had a chance to order it but it looked awesome. I went there again with a different group of friends over the weekend(on a Friday night) and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t twerk city as my friend and I assumed but it was a nice lounge area with several floors of good music. I’m not sure if it was just that night but no one was dancing. The rooftop had a beautiful view which was enhanced by delicious Long Island, I’m sure lol. My drink was light brown in color as it should be with the standard DC price tag attached. I didn’t order any food but whatever it is that they make smelled absolutely divine. As soon as we hit the steps to the rooftop there was a soft waft of seafood that was calling my name ever so gently. I was barely able to resist but I will definitely wouldn’t mind making my way out there again in the near future.

For what it was it was ok. It’s more of a bar with a club atmosphere. The night I went it was a very light rain(for 10 minutes) and they closed the rooftop. The problem was there was no communication and they were trying to close the top floor also. Doing this would have been no room for anyone and it took about 30 minutes to figure out. Other than that the drinks were good. I do hookah on a regular basis and they had an electronic one(vapor). It pulled good and I guess its smart on their end. I probably won’t go back but if a friend had a party there I would go.

Lovely atmosphere! Incredibly decent happy hour! Live Dj = great music!) Overall great vibe! I went on a Friday evening during happy hour with some friends. The rooftop was really nice. The DJ was the bomb; played the best throwbacks. We ordered some appetizers which were actually good! Everyone deserves a good happy hour after a long work week :)

A birthday celebration on 05-19-2015, and the service was horrible. The event took place after work during happy hour and only 1 bartender, named Dominique, which was slower than my grandmother. No other bar was opened in the club. Never told customers about happy hour, took forever to get food, to the point we forgot we ordered. There were only about 50 people, and staff member stated that they weren’t expecting this crowd.(Really)!!! Credit Card machine was down and she wanted to keep your card until it was fixed, and I said hell no. If you buy the fishbowl drink, you will pay $ 26.00 along with a gratuity in which your bowl is not even full. Stay away from the place. Not worth the visit!!!

Always a great expeience here. I’ve been celebrating since the grand opening NYE2012. I love the transformation of this place, as I’ve watched it grow thru the years. The rooftop is absolutely stunning. By far the most memorable experience was my graduation party. Everyone who I invite always have a ball! The DJ is always hype as we dance the night away. Thank you Avery & the infamous bartenders for always showing us a great time.

Love this place! My hubby and I frequent often. The music is ALWAYS fab! The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I’ve taken my girlfriends as well and whenever they come into town they always ask to go back to Averys! Can’t wait for warmer weather to return for rooftop parties.

Not my cup of tea. Before coming to Avery’s I heard a lot of good things about it. I checked it out on Unilocal and saw all the four and five star reviews. I looked through the pictures and saw the owner taking photos with many different celebrities. I thought that was a cheap marketing ploy, but to each their own. Came in on a Saturday night and walked up the narrow flight of stairs to get to the bar. Once I walked in, I was turned off. There was hardly any seating. Not that all the seating was occupied… it was just not that many seats. So my friends and I stood up. The place didn’t look dirty but it didn’t look finished. As far as décor, it could be polished up a bit. So this was my first time on H St, so I didn’t know what to expect but what broke the camels back was when they told me my drink would be $ 12. I pay less money at bars downtown, with bigger cups, better ambiance and crowd. We stayed all of 10 mins and then we left.

Avery’s was cool and very chill. I walked pass the building and I heard music so I decided to explore and I came up on a hidden gem. The ambiance put me in mind of a really chill basement so it felt like being at home. Im not a drinker but my friend said his drinks were awesome. The bartender’s were friendly and gave attentive service. Food: I tried the mozzarella sticks and the wings I must say for just starting to do food it was pretty good. The owner was asking for feedback on the food I told him I think he is on to something so expect more reviews later about the food. Dj: played good music all night and never remixed the same song so if dancing is your thing knock yourself out.

I’ve been going to Avery’s since it opened, and every time I go, I have a great time without fail. The rooftop is great on summer nights, with a great view of H St, a bar, someone on the grill making the best wings ever, and plush seating. I love the crowd, the drinks are strong, and the music is great. They also have hookah now! The day party on Saturdays are a lot of fun. Avery’s is a great place to go if you are looking to hang out with friends and have a good time, without all of the pretentiousness of other places nearby. I am definitely a regular patron now!

I’ve been waiting to add my review for this hot spot. I absolutely had a great night at Avery’s. From the beautiful people to the good music, it is everything you’re looking for during a night out. This is no exaggeration. As you can see from the countless good reviews, it is the truth. The bouncers were very kind with letting us in, put your name on the RSVP list so you can get in free before 12, the bartenders were quick with drinks and attentive, not to mention the owner Avery was walking around making sure everything was running smoothly & I loved that! Shoutout to the DJ! He wasn’t doing a lot of talking he was doing what a DJ is suppose to do, spin those hot tracks! Lol! When you go make sure you head up to the rooftop for a beautiful view of some of the city. Also get the hookah and chicken wings! It’s best if you go with 5 or more people because the hookah is $ 30 but it’s definitely good quality shisha. Believe me! **Sidenote: drinks run about $ 8-$ 11 dollars. To all my people, support black businesses. I’m so glad my best friend found this place, I will be coming back again.

Fantastic. Superb. Out of sight. There aren’t enough adjectives to describe this establishment. From the moment I stepped in it was like plunging into Soul and Funk. Splash! And I’m hip deep in the sauce. Invited to sweat. Dance. I love soul, funk, and r&b. Avery provides three floors for your dancing, chilling, and socializing pleasure. The main floor had the band with a Lauren Hillesque singer radiating energy with a killer accompaniment of drums, bass, and trombone. This floor was manned by Elisa, who was amazing to watch. [If I misspelled your name, it’s my cousin’s fault.] This woman juggled the preparation and delivery of drinks like a Ringling Brothers veteran. And they were fantastic. The there was the next floor. Gotta admit there was very little going on. Besides the bathroom line. But it’s there for libation. And finally the roof. The roof is «magical». Come up here to lounge. It’s worth getting here early to secure a spot in such a coveted area overlooking H Street. We stayed until closing. They had a DJ by then.

Didn’t order a drink. Didn’t order shisha. I did, however, enjoy the rooftop view. Avery’s is very scenic and in a(recently) prime location, so I’d definitely return and recommend it to others. The night that I went wasn’t too crowded. The age range varied, although it tended to lean more to the younger side. I enjoyed the music — nice selection of hip-hop. I think the view from the roof is what sold me. I’ll have to order a drink next time, and become an actual patron. That particular night was girls’ night out to barhop, and Avery’s was one of the last on the list… so I didn’t really need to overindulge. My friend enjoyed her drinks, though.

I was here last night for a rooftop party. I really enjoyed the scenic views and the low key crowd. The music wasn’t too loud and it wasn’t balls to the wall crowded. The patrons were a bit young for my speed, but I’ll blame that on the party promoter(a friend of a friend) lol. I saw a couple of people enjoying a hookah(the newest accessory of the DMV party scene). My only gripe is the price of the drinks… Yes, it is H street, but $ 11 for a mini red cup-rocks glass of ciroc and pineapple? I guess I’ve been frequenting establishments owned and operated by friends from my bar tending days too much. Hopefully one day soon I’ll get a regular 9 – 5 so I can enjoy the happy hour that the rest of the Unilocalers are bragging about! P. S. while going up the 3 sets of stairs that lead to the rooftop, you should make a note to self not to drink to much. The sheer steepness of the second set is intimidating. There are twists and turns leading up to the deck and if that’s not enough, there’s a little area under the steps where lucifer himself sits and blows out just enough hot air to singe the hairs on your arms… Now that should be enough to scare the secret lush that lives inside of you…
