Accounting 4 DC

I’m not sure exactly how to review. It’s obvious that most people have a good experience with this company. We didn’t have a terrible experience, but we were disappointed with the the end result. We were filing our personal and business taxes through Accounting 4 DC. We have an S-​corp with multiple cities, which may have made it more difficult. In the end, there was a pretty significant error that appeared to us to be something that should have been flagged immediately by this office. Stephanie left us feeling many times with an uneasy feeling about filing with her. We ended up going with a different firm.

Woah, that’s probably the first time someone has said that and not been sarcastic. Well that’s what happens when you finally find someone good to do them for you. Gone are the days of TurboTax and H&R Block, with Accounting 4 DC I am confident my taxes are being done right.
Now, doing your taxes through a CPA isn’t cheap but if your portfolio is like mine and is just too complicated to do yourself, I think going to Stephanie at Accounting 4 DC is well worth the money. Her knowledge and patience are worth their weight in gold (or in IRS auditors). She did my personal taxes and business taxes, worked with me via email while I was out of the country, conducted a conference call with me and my business partner, and explained everything along the way — and I had a lot of questions since it was my first time filing business taxes. They give you a price guide when you contact them before putting a deposit down via PayPal so you know about how much your total will be. I found their rates reasonable given their expertise and comparable to the last CPA I went to several years ago out of state.
Note: Accounting 4 DC is a small operation so you have to secure their services early in the year (I believe the cut off is March 15) to guarantee you’re done by April 15. Otherwise they request you file for an extension and then complete your return afterwards.

I have been working with Accounting 4 DC for the past two years and have been absolutely pleased with the services they provide. Stephanie is an excellent CPA, and I have recommended her to friends and colleagues. I recently transitioned from being a full-​time employee to consulting and Stephanie has been great at helping me to track my expenses, determine my estimated tax amounts, and file my taxes. I highly recommend Accounting 4 DC! Stephanie and her team are trustworthy, patient, knowledgeable, and dependable. To make a long story short, I used another account to take care of my business taxes and personal taxes for a couple of years, until one year that accountant really messed up both the business and personal returns. We had Stephanie and her team come in and fix the problem. They patiently sat down with myself and my business partner to review our books and business tax returns, and they explained all the actions needing to be completed in plain language. My husband and I then reviewed our personal return that was completely incorrect. They were able to quickly and most importantly correctly fix both our business and personal tax returns. She was able to directly handle a big paperwork problem that our previous accountant made with DC and ended up saving us lots of money.
I have continued to use Stephanie and her team for both business and personal tax matters. We still tend to have issues from our previous accountant, and Stephanie is always available to fix the problems quickly and accurately.

I’d recommend Accounting 4 DC. I used them to do amendments to the most recent year tax returns, so my experience is likely a little different than most. I’m not sure about this, but it seems like outside of the normal tax season they might be a little less-​staffed than Jan-​April. Without going into all the details, they were a bit rushed in doing my returns and wound up doing them wrong, and then took longer to correct them than had been originally promised. BUT they adjusted for that in billing me, without my even asking.
And I found that Stephanie really knew her stuff. Because she was doing an amendment of returns I’d prepared myself, she tried reconciling a lot of my original (crappy) assumptions and math, mostly to try to understand my logic, which I thought was impressive. And she knew tax structures in several states well enough to compare and come up with the best strategy overall.

Honestly, I’d love to tell you what I think of Accounting 4 DC, but I couldn’t get in through the front door. I’ve been working with another CPA & am interested in switching. I needed a quick conversation to make sure my issue was something they could help with (given that they’re a relatively small shop and, as you can imagine, there are many different kinds of tax needs & the problem I have now is fairly specific).
They refused to even chat for a couple of minutes over the phone without a $ 100 appointment, which is bizarre and not something I’ve seen at another CPA firm (or any other client services business for that matter).
I understand they get paid for their knowledge and experience and can’t go giving it out for free, but that isn’t what I was asking — I simply wanted them to hear what my problem is and tell me if it’s something they can work on.
This was a huge red flag for me, and I’m opting to move on.
UPDATE: I appreciate your taking the time to respond, but honestly the process you outlined was not followed. I was not asked any questions about the nature of my tax question (whether it was personal or business related, regarding a prior return or future services, etc.), but instead told that absolutely nothing would be reviewed or answered until I agreed to a $ 100 initial meeting. This seems a little absurd… would you pay $ 100 to go to a restaurant before they let you look at the menu?
As I mentioned, I have a CPA and am in client services myself and work with an attorney on a similar basis, and this is not an industry standard practice & have never encountered it. I think Unilocalers should be aware they don’t need to pay $ 100 to know whether or not a CPA can even work in the field of accounting they need… And, the quite frankly, the fact this is a business practice of yours is questionable and suggests folks should move on and find another company.

I needed assistance starting out as an independent consulting and what that means to my tax structure. Meeting Stephanie today assured me that going forward, my tax liability will be managed properly. While I’m still a bit nervous about what’s ahead of me, I am sure that having Accounting 4 DC on my team, I made a wise decision to seek professional help to do my taxes. I felt confident that they are knowledgeable about the most recent tax codes and I’m thankful that Stephanie was able to break down the information in layman terms. She also walked with me through the process of developing a plan of action for the next few months. I would recommend them for your tax needs.

Stephanie has done my taxes for the past 4 years. I’ve never not gotten a refund. I’ve got weird taxes too — living out of the country for years, contracting, ect. It got complicated! She listens, provides advice, and is super flexible. I’ll never do my own taxes again. The price point is also totally affordable — even on a nonprofit salary. Take advantage of using an expert when you can and you will not regret it.

Talk about the least stressful tax experience you will ever have — Basically within a week of emailing Stephanie at Accounting4DC, my taxes were done, with meticulous detail, taking very little of my time. The way she does it is incredibly efficient and thorough, and saves you a lot of hassle. I go to her every year, and she is so courteous that she answers all of my other questions, outside of tax season. I highly recommend her!!!

Accounting 4 DC is an outstanding accounting firm. They have prepared my family’s taxes for the past 4 or 5 years. While personable, and quite knowledgeable, they bring a great amount of charisma to the table that I have never seen with other tax professionals. I hired Stephanie to do my personal income taxes for 2011 because they were somewhat complicated that year due to a mid-​year move from Puerto Rico to DC. She did a great job preparing my taxes and got the work done well ahead of the filing deadline. I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of tax preparation services. This was by far the best experience I have ever had with an accountant. Stephanie is very customer focus and tries to do everything she can to make your tax return as easy as possible. The best part for me was that I could do everything by email. As I’m travelling a lot this was huge win for me. Whenever I had a question Stephanie was very responsive and clear in her reply. This was the first time I hired someone else to prepare my tax returns. I didn’t have anything too crazy, but it was complicated enough (multiple returns, rental income, day care expenses) that it felt like too much of a headache to do myself. Stephanie was very efficient and easy to communicate with … plus she responded quickly to all my tedious questions. Overall, I could not have been happier with the results.
