Went there for lunch one day and had the sushi and sashimi platter and was awesome. Fish was very fresh and tasted really good. Defiantly go back to this place. The place is clean and fresh looking. A must try!

Run for the hills! When we got seated my niece saw a huge cockroach on the chair and the person who seated us didn’t even apologize. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Place seemed very dirty and smelly.

Food is always delicious and always given extras. They are under new ownership now. Just called and they don’t have their liquor license yet fyi

Ok so I’ve been here countless amount of times the staff was always pretty friendly always giving free appetizers, but after my experience last night it is safe to say I will never be coming back here. After getting all our food a friend of mine was just about to start eating his dinner when a cockroach fell from the vent overhead right into the middle of his plate! After telling the staff they offered him a new meal, but after being disgusted by that we just asked for the check. They brought us the check and even CHARGEDUSFORHISMEAL!!! As we were walking out they gave us a bottle of saki for free, but I don’t understand how you can charge someone for a meal that could not even be eaten due to a cockroach in it. Safe to say, even though I’ve always had generally good experiences here in the past, I will not be returning due to the fact I won’t be able to get the thought of cockroaches possibly falling into my food out of the overhead vents out of my mind!!!

Don’t you just hate it when you’re in the mood for something! Definitely not coming back here. We wanted to order from Merrick hibachi bit they are closed on Mondays. Being that we were already in the mood for hibachi, we decided to try Showa. Haven’t been here in years. The food was not good at all. Had an old nasty taste to it m not to mention the price was absurd! Not worth it at all!

I did like it until the day we went for a large Birthday and there were 2 roaches crawling across the hibachi table when we were seated. Not much more to say than ew. They didn’t seem bothered by this when we told them either.

Because I came here with my five grand kids and their parents to celebrate my grand daughters 12th birthday(she chose this place), I decided to write this review using a descriptive sentence given by each one of my grand kids so that there would be a variety of thoughts on tonight’s dinning experience. Here goes: Good service and great food. Love the Japanese soda. Portions are totally filling.(Saki rocks hot or cold – stated by an adult) The food was delicious, the shrimp especially fresh. Their birthday presentation was AWESOME! There you have it. Enjoyed by each grand kid, ages ranging from 6 – 14 and us adults..

This is my first time writing a review, we first walk in and it looked kind of dirty. So first we sat down it took at least 10 minutes for them to ask us what we wanted to drink. After waiting for our drinks my brother in law noticed a roach crawling on our hibachi table, we informed the lady but she made lite of it. After deciding to stay I wanted sushi for an appetizer but she said there was no sushi because the guy who makes it called out, okayyy… I tried to be optimistic so I ordered the hibachi but it wasn’t that good after all. The only reason why I gave it two stars because they did try to make up for all this, gave us a free appetizer.

Best Hibachi and sushi around. Great food, good portions, and very welcoming, Showa is on my list of favorite restaurants. Been here about a dozen times and never been disappointed.

For those looking for a good hibachi spot to take families this is the place. The staff is super friendly especially with children. Even without kids its a nice local spot to get out and have some sake and enjoy some great food. The food is definitely equal to all of the other hibachi spots in the area, the only main difference being the décor here is a little lacking. Drinks are cheaper here in my opinion than at the other hibachi spots. If I’m looking for a romantic night out or a date night, Im probably going elsewhere.

After revisiting this place several times, I must say it is very family friendly. They always make it a point to recognize my boyfriend and I. Plus we always get two appetizers and saki for free! They are making it an effort to be more customer friendly and even gave my friend a cake on his birthday. All in all, the food is still a little greasy and sometimes overcooked, but the service is great. Also, they make good zombies.

Second time I was there — first time the food was horrible but I always give a place a second chance in case it was a fluke. It was NOT a fluke. Chicken was incredibly dry on both occasions. Fried rice good but salty. Salmon was ok. But what made this place really bad was the service. Over 20 minutes just to take our order and another 20 or so before the chef started cooking. Waitress barely came by. My daughter and I both wanted more water and I finally had to get up and find someone(maybe the owner or manager) to ask for more water. Same for when I wanted the check. NEVER going back. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This place deserves 2.5 stars, but every time i’m here, me and my friends have a great time. The food here is barely mediocre(hibachi & sushi). What makes me randomly come back here though is that when me and a group of friends come here, we always have a great time drinking and whatnot. Not a lot of places can let you get as rowdy as we get here, and not really disturb other people. Is it worth going out of your way to eat here, no. Have a large group of people(8 – 14) that you’re not sure where to go, ehhhh, check this place out maybe…

So so so epically bad. I’m pretty sure all the good reviews are from people who know the owners.

Came here yesterday with our two daughters. Great for the kids they always love this. A little disorganized it seemed they were not ready for customers it was 4:30 I guess just getting ready for dinner? Food overall was good. We were really enjoying the meal until they brought out the food for the next table. The trays were stacked on top of each other with the raw food on the, um gross :(My husband and I were instantly turned off, due to the fact as they were the plastic trays and looked disgusting. We are not ones to complain so we just got the bill and left. I guess this is standard for this restaurant as most of the customers seemed to be regulars and new the people working there. We def will not return.

I have been here several times with my family and it’s pretty good. There’s a sit down area as well as the hibachi station. When I used to come with my grandparents they used to know the owner and would get free sake and appetizers all the time. The chefs always put on a fun show and it’s a great place to entertain kids.(With the theatrics and all.) I like their chicken and hibachi noodles. They also make a good ginger salad. My only thing I want to mention is that sometimes they seem like they are rushing you a bit(which I have noticed the same response from other reviewers). But otherwise, not bad.

This place is like that clunky friend you have that you like to be around but sometimes they can become ponderous… They are nice, well groomed, funny; but there is always something that doesn’t sit quite right… That said, the food is decent and relatively inexpensive. The sushi is about what you would expect from a non-japanese owned japanese restuarant. The owner and the staff are really nice, the place is fairly clean(fishing poles by the coat rack, really??) I love Wantagh, and I love supporting my local businesses so I will return… eventually…

I must say this is by far my favorite hibachi restaurant. It’s all about the little things. They serve both rice and noodles with hibachi and some places don’t do that. I’m a big eater and that goes a long way for me. Also, every time I have gone, my table has received free edamame and a plate of beef tempura pieces covered in sauce that is very good. If you are getting hibachi with some drinks expect around $ 40 per person, $ 50 if you really like saki. Personally I feel this is the average price for hibachi dinners around the area so it doesn’t bother me. If you are a sushi lover, they have fresh fish with normal prices on your basic rolls but the specialty rolls run for $ 9−13ish. The specialty rolls are totally worth it in my opinion because it fills you up more than 2 smaller $ 5 rolls can. Waiters can sometimes be slow but usually because it’s busy since I have been there on the weekends. Make sure to make reservations in advance especially on the weekend. Seems like a family business and the owners are so friendly. He’s the one to personally bring out the free appetizers and bang on the ‘birthday gong’ as I like to call it. All in all a fun and entertaining time. Plenty of food w hibachi meal and the chefs make it enjoyable. Owners and bartender are very friendly and easy to have a quick conversation with.

Went here last night for my nephew’s 7th birthday and had such a fantastic time. I can’t believe thtat this place has not received good reviews. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic. This place is definately kid friendly. The owner came out and was talking with the kids and even gave us free appetizers and also gave the birthday boy a free fried ice cream. We ordered a variety of sushi for appetizers and it was all fresh and delicious. For our entrees we all ordered hibachi dinners. The hibachi cook was amazing, fun and friendly. A great plus for the kids! My nephew picked this place because he enjoyed it when they had gone for my brother’s birthday dinner. Last night was my first time here but I will definately will be back. A restaurant that goes out their way to make their guests feel comfortable and not rushed is my type of restaurant.

We have only had the sushi here but I have eaten in or taken out from Showa over half a dozen times and have always been very happy with the quality of the rolls(eel & avocado, spicy tuna and spicy yellow tail), edamame, seaweed salad and beef negimaki. We ate at the restaurant a couple times, service was always good and the last two times we were treated by the owner to a free appetizer. Atmosphere at Showa is very nice, cannot speak to the hibatchi grill side of the restaurant but they always seem to be having a good time. Some of the better sushi we have found in our area.
