Yummy House

This place used to be Yummy House… but now it’s called Jasper’s Café or something. The food quality changed too… I think they switched chefs or owners.
The pan fried baos aren’t the same anymore. It’s not terrible, but there’s better restaurants out there for about the same price as well.

Love their pan fried onion cake and the oyster thin noodles. Fried stinky tofu is also pretty good here.

Went here with the bro and my gf. We ordered the following: crispy chitterlings, pork with leek dumpling, steamed rice cake, and a combination fried rice. The crispy chitterlings were delicious. They were dried and definitely crispy, the salt helped with the taste. The steamed rice cake was also delicious, enough to be eaten as an appetizer. The dumplings were okay, they were not the best ones I’ve tried. The combination fried rice was lacking in taste, we had to add spicy sauce to better the taste.

Don’t… Come… Here… I’ve lived in Walnut for the past 20 years and have (much to my dismay) been coming here since they’ve been open. They recently changed their name from Yummy House to Jasper’s Café. New management? Idk. The only difference I observed was that they don’t sell half the things on their menu anymore lol.
My parents are Taiwanese, so this place is a close, convenient spot for Taiwanese food if you’re in the Walnut area… But it has a reputation for being unsanitary and that’s probably one of the WORST things you want to hear when you’re eating at a restaurant. I question how sanitary the handling and preparation of the food is, and it makes me gag a little at the thought of consuming dirty food. There was even an article written about the top 5 restaurants in the SGV with the most health code violations and this was on the list. Yeah… No thanks!
The food itself is honestly not bad but I still wouldn’t come here unless this was literally my last option and I had no other alternatives. You’re better off going to one of the other restaurants nearby, or to Rowland Heights for better (and cleaner) Taiwanese food.

Cash Only! A little overwhelmed with the amount of people who came in, the service was definitely lacking. If you can stand the lack of service or just come during a down time, the beef stew noodle is definitely worth a try. Otherwise, I would suggest doing take out. It feels like they serve their take out customers before they serve the ones dining in! Interesting how that would be the case since the dine in customers are the ones giving them the tips!
At $ 7.50 a bowl, the price was reasonable. The beef was soft and moist, the noodle had a good chewiness to it, and the soup was flavorful was just the right amount kick to it.
We must have asked several times to order, and several times again just for the check so we can pay. In the end, I gave up and just brought my check to the counter instead of just waiting for them to pick it up.

This restaurant is one of our family’s favorites! We only live a few minutes away so it’s always a quick and satisfying experience for us! We’re lucky to be such close proximity of such delicious Taiwanese food. Every time we have family visiting, we bring them here and they love it!
Our favorites are the the green onion pancake and oyster pancake!

Traditional taiwanese food. If you want legit taiwanese food then … Good luck. I don’t think anywhere in America sells legit taiwanese food. That being said yummy house does have a variety of taiwanese snacks such as oyster noodles and oyster pancake. If you are craving these dishes then this may satiate you for the time being. Nowhere close to the real thing but closer than any other place in walnut. That being said the service here is not good. I’ve waited over an hour for fried rice before. If you complain often times the waitress will just ignore you.

Their menu is very extensive and true Taiwanese food.
They have dishes and my mom use to make at home. Try their dumplings too. Glad to find this place!

EEEP you know a place is sketchy when food comes out within 5 minutes after you order… Definitely caught me off guard. I ordered a soup dish, steamed juicy dumplings, and bean curd vegetable dish and none of them except the bean curd dish impressed me. The «juicy» steamed dumplings was not juicy at all and was almost too pink to eat. And the soup tastes too MSGy. Don’t think I’ll return to this place.
As of 6÷1÷15 the place had a C rating. I didn’t realize this until I got inside and already ordered (they kind of hid it on the top right corner of the restaurant) wish j would have seen that earlier because I would definitely thought twice before coming in. Be warned!!!

To give them some credit, they warned me with the big «C» on the public health report sheet. To sum it up:
Food has a lot of MSG; I got the Combination Over Rice and I couldn’t tell if I was chewing chicken or beef… Or something else. All the dishes on the table, including their Pork Bao and Fried Pork Dumpling tasted undercooked, over-​starched, and frozen… Seriously heavily frozen. I’m confident the meat and seafood are frozen, grade D quality proteins.
Oh and service was typical Chinese service that you’d find in Walnut/​Rowland.
And this wouldn’t affect the rating, but I hate when businesses say «Cash Only».

Writing this review as my mom and I are sick at home after eating here. We both got food poisoning in the middle of the night after we ate here. All I know is, never again.
Update: I just saw this restaurant on SGV Tribune on the top 8 restaurants with the most health code violations and this place was number 6.

This was always one of my favorite Taiwanese cafes because it truly tasted like home. As we don’t really live in the area, we don’t go to this café often. If we are in the area, it’s on account of hubby’s parents. Yes, there is this big red half-​circle that is on one of the windows in front. While that did sort of make hubby and myself cringe, the restaurant was still full, and his parents were hungry, so we walked on in, got a table for 4 towards the back, and sat down.
For the tables, they are still as clean as it’s ever been. Sometimes a little grungy, but no old food stuck to the floor, and no stickiness on the tables/​chairs/​floors. Tea is the same stuff that they’ve been making for the last several years, so I’m glad that that has been consistent.
In terms of service, it’s your typical Asian restaurant, so you do have to politely wave down the waitress to ask questions or put in your order. However, there seemed to only be one waitress (there used to be around 2 or 3) for the entire restaurant, probably one or two cooks, and one of the cooks was also the server. So, it looks to be around 3 or 4 people trying to do everything in this café, when there used to probably be around twice that amount of employees. While we did have to wait for the waitress whenever she was done at one table (whether taking orders, bussing tables, or delivering food), she was nice enough, and didn’t get in a huff when we had to ask questions.
As a family, we’ve ordered everything on the menu already. For the items that we got this past weekend, the flavors were still consistent, and portions were still good. We also ordered a wide variety of items: noodle soup for the mom, beef and bell peppers on rice plate for the dad, chow mien for the hubby, and pork with minced meat on rice for me. Food came out a lot faster than before, and, even though one of the entrees was a little too salty, they took back the plate, made a new one, and didn’t complain about it. Presentation (sort of unheard of in café cuisine, anyways) might be a little bit more sloppy, but everything you are paying for is on your plate.
I tried to look up as to why they have a C rating, since that is public information. I noticed that they had an 87 in 2013, where the only things they were dinged were that stored ingredients would touch each other. Couldn’t find the 2014 review, though.
So, we’ll see. I’m not big fan of C-​rated places, but we didn’t get sick, all of the other customers were happily eating their meals, and everything was as normal as I’ve ever seen it.

A local option for authentic Taiwanese food. I come here way too much with my family. You can find us in either this place or MJ café every Tuesday night for dinner… we basically alternate between these places weekly (mainly because we live near here). I’ve tried quite a few of their dishes after coming here for years but I’ll stick to our favorites.
I’ve come to REALLY appreciate the food here. My father, sister, and I all love the preserved veggie + pork soup noodle the best. I find that amusing and strange, considering we have very different tastes in foods. Example, my sister loves American fast food and Mexican food, and doesn’t care for Asian food much. She’s Asian. But yeah, that noodle soup is surprisingly tasty given the simplicity of the dish! The noodles are chewy and not soggy, and the portion is quite generous.
Again, the strangeness continues because our 2^nd fav dish (for all 3 of us) is the stir fried seafood vermicelli. There’s a good amount of seafood on it, and after adding that sambal chili on it, I’m in stir fried noodle heaven.
Business here has been really picking up too because I notice a lot more families coming here now. If old Asian people are coming, then it must be good.

I’d give you a zero if it were possible. You gave me my chicken roll without the sauce. This is twice now this has happened. How can you eat the chicken roll without sauce? No flavor at all. Unbelievable!
I ordered the Beef with Ginger and Scallion Sauce, the entrée portion with no rice $ 10. There was barely a single portion in there. NO wonder when I left the restaurant, it felt so light.
Biggest waste of $ 18 I’ve ever experienced. It was worth less than $ 10.

Came here with a friend during lunch, since its close to the school… it’s OK I really say it left a huge impression except for the onion cakes…
We got a variety of things, shrimp fried rice which was good, not special but still good.

Spicy mini wontons that were OK, but I probably wouldn’t order again.
Spicy beef, big no-​no, just a heads up… its a cold dish… very disappointing, not good at all we didn’t even touch it after the first try
She loved her fish cakes, I’m not a fan so I didn’t try them.
You get free hot tea with your meal which is cool, but doesnt make up for the mediocre food… probably won’t go back… except for maybe the onion cakes!
Its cash only but isn’t advertised anywhere so just a heads up… we were lucky and both had cash…

Ordered a popcorn chicken rice plate to go. Definitely worth $ 6. Each piece was juicy and crispy. But the ground pork on the rice wasn’t flavorful and kind of gross to me. Tea egg was well-​seasoned and the cabbage wears a complementary side dish.
Staff weren’t super friendly but it may be because they don’t speak English confidently.

yummy house is really an Ok house! My relatives enjoyed this place because they bring out the dishes fast but you can see why after looking at the plate of food. They were all incredibly oily!

My cousin and I also shared a Dan Dan mien and though it was incredibly heavy it was pretty good.

No, you really do not deserve the name «Yummy» House anymore.
Came here on a Wednesday night and aside from one other party, the restaurant was empty. Their menu consists of the similar items that you can find at any Chinese/​Taiwanese restaurant.
My friends and I ordered fried rice, popcorn chicken, beef rolls and wonton noodle soup to share. All four entrees were very bland and did not taste fresh. The popcorn chicken was not spicy, as I ordered it to be. The beef rolls were greasy and lacked actual pieces of meat. The wonton noodle soup on the other hand was decent, and they give a large portion of noodles.
The restaurant was clean and the waitresses were friendly, but I still won’t be back any time soon.

I grew up patronizing Yummy House, not as a favorite spot, but mainly because of its convenience from my house.
Hits:
* This once plain looking restaurant has gotten a nice facelift, thanks to a lot of trendy Ikea furniture
* The restaurant also looks bigger now, maybe from the brighter lighting
* The food tastes better than I remember, one of the yummier tasting Chinese restaurants in the plaza — the ricecake dishes (Seafood Rice Cakes!) here are super savory!
* Attentive service, since we were the only ones dining in on a late Sunday afternoon
* Open throughout the day, without kitchen siestas… so it’s one of the few places in Walnut where you can have a late lunch, or super early dinner. senior-​style!
Lessons Learned:
* Food is affordable, but considered on the pricier end for Chinese food
* Ca$h only
* This place sits next to a smoke shop, just sayin’
Came back recently for the first time since moving back home post-​college, and since I enjoyed the food so much this time around, I plan to frequent this yummy house more often.
