A horrible Singaporean restaraunt that sells horribly-taste ramen with a horrible attitude. I have been to Chop Chop Grill a few times now. I like their hainam chicken rice but am extremely disappointed at their awfully poor customer service. Their poor service baffles me, knowing that in America we care a lot about great customer service. I have given them several chances, hoping that they can provide a better service the next time I visit. Unfortunately nope. Their main bread and butter is the horribly-taste ramen dish which they use to target the Mount Sac students’ business. At the same time they are very proud to serve Singaporean dishes but NOT proud to show them on the menu. Each time I went I have to ask«what’s special today?» Even when they have special dishes they would tell me there was NONE and pointed at the hainam chicken rice written on the regular menu. I found out they did have special menu after the lunch time was over and when they were less busy and actually had time for me. So they either social profiling or selling their food selectively. 1.5 months ago, I called to check if they have any specials because I was craving for some Singaporean/Malaysian food. The cook(the fat lady in the picture I posted) picked up the phone and told me they have hainam chicken rice(which is ALWAYS on their regular menu, how is that special?) and they have something else. I asked what was that and she explained to me which I thought was another type of Malaysian/Singaporean dish. Nevertheless I drove there, I asked her relative who always handles the cash register, she told me they did NOT have any special except for the hainam chicken(like I have mentioned above). I told her, that was strange because the cook told me on the phone they had some specials! Then the cook came to the front and talked to the relative and me and she made a very rude ugly face saying that I mistaken the special she told me on the phone with something else which was made with turnip instead of rice flour. The way she sounded was very rude and basically saying«I am an idiot». Today I went to dine in again. I didn’t even bother to ask for their specials because they will point at the hainam chicken again and again. I ordered their house dry noodles. When their waiter served me the noodle, he brought along some Siracha chilly sauce. I returned them to the waiter and asked for sambal which is a type of Malaysian hot sauce and usually is home-made. I returned the Siracha to the waiter because I didn’t want to waste their sauce. Then I heard the cook screaming and whining about why did I request for sambal. She screamed that the dry noodles must be consumed with Siracha sauce. She was whining so loud in the kitchen that I could hear her from my table. Her relative calmed her down by saying«just give the customer what she wants». Seriously what is the big deal? You cannot force your customers to use the type of hot sauce they do not like. She is real rude, has too much ego thinking only her can make authentic Singaporean food in the entire Los Angeles. Their curry laksa SUCKS, tastes like she uses pre-made sachet to cook them. If you know what’s true curry laksa you ain’t gonna dine here. It’s great she knows how to cook but not great at all if she does not know how to do business or provide a good customer service in America. A great service can help her business in the long run. I will not return and my mom will not return either. So she has just LOST2 customers(plus MORE) because I will post my complaints on other social sites so more customers will learn how bad this place is. A horrible Singaporean restaraunt selling sucks ramen with a horrible attitude. Go & learn how to be in the hospitality F&B business before starting one. Otherwise just stay home and cook for yourself!

Chop Chop is a hidden café located in Walnut, California. It is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, across the street from Mt San Antonio college. Find«Vapor Monkeez» and the place is next door. This family run restaurant serves up Singaporean and Japanese cuisine, from curry to laksa, from ramen to Hainan chicken, which is a poached style of chicken. Hainan chicken hails from the Hainan province in southern China, but this dish is now more associated with Singapore cuisine. I was craving Hainan chicken and was not in the mood to sit in an hour plus traffic to go to Savoy in LA. Fortunately for me, I stumbled across this Unilocal review and someone mentioned Hainan Chicken and Rice. It was also mentioned that this dish sells out, so I called asking if they still had some available. The lady on the phone said she’d be willing to hold my order, so I asked for a dark meat plate, and a regular plate to be held. The Hainan Chicken is not on the regular menu. According to the owner, they offer a fried chicken version and the Singaporean customers were asking for the«real deal», the poached version. So they started offering it at $ 9.95 for a regular order, or, if you want just dark meat add $ 1.00. I had the regular order which had mostly white meat. Karen upcharged her order to the dark meat only. Asians typically don’t like white meat because it tends to be dry. Not so with a good Hainan chicken. The white meat when poached is extremely tender, moist and delicious. This was no exception. The dish came with 3 dipping sauces: the soy, the ginger sauce, and the house made chili sauce(which the owner said was made especially for the Hainan chicken). The ginger sauce was also not your typical ginger and oil concoction. They added green onions and garlic to the mix, giving the sauce an even nicer flavor. Aside from the difficulty finding the place, I can’t find any fault here. The food is priced fairly, and since its a mom n pop place, they even have a sign at the cashier saying their food may take a while, because its a small kitchen. Even their tea was fairly priced at a buck. Dinner for 2, which came with a chicken consommé soup, came to just over $ 22 before tax or tip. Looking forward to coming back to get my Hainan Chicken fix. As the kids would say. this place is legit! Open every day around noon(except Friday). Closes at 8:00 pm

I took dinner and lunch a lot in here. Hainan chicken rice and Laksa are my favorite! Highly recommend it!

Right around the corner and love the family run restaurant. Wait times can be intense during busy hours but they give fair warning — small kitchen. Favorites include a fantastic hainan chicken and laksa. Ramen was decent. I didn’t love the satays as it was a bit dry. May have been an off day. My husband though the curry was decent. I would stick to the Singaporean dishes. We’ll be back often.

Food-wise, Chop Chop Grill is great. It’s reasonably priced and the portions are decent and filling. I’ve only eaten take-out, but I was told that their dine-in presentation is nice. Their curry puffs are delicious and I highly recommend their Hainan Chicken Rice(which is better than Savoy, imo). One of my favorite dishes was the laksa soup – it was packed full of flavor and the right amount of spiciness. However, I docked two stars because of the incredibly terrible customer service we received. We called in our take out order when we were in a nearby store. We were told it would take 45 minutes(which we thought was a long amount of time for take out), but we decided to wait anyways and kill time. We eventually drove over after 45 minutes and when we arrived, our food wasn’t ready. Instead of admitting that it was their fault, they told us that they just received our order 10 minutes prior to our arrival. We showed them our call logs where it clearly indicated that we had called in at least 45 minutes beforehand, but they kept insisting that we were wrong instead of just apologizing. They were incredibly rude about it and at the end, never even apologized. This poor experience alone has discouraged me from ever coming back.

Great eats. I love coming to this place. Food is good and large servings, especially the plate dishes.

Great Hainan Chicken, but it’s limited quantity! I usually call beforehand and check if they still have any left before I go to the store to order. The curry chicken with paratha is also great! I liked the bread so much I bought 2 other ones. Also got the Laksa Noodles; I didn’t really like it but my mom really liked that one. It had more seafood.

I had their Hainan Chicken Rice. I thought it tasted very authentic and made me feel nostalgic. I definitely recommend this place for people to try out. However, their service is a bit slow and they served one person at a time with the food when usually all the food comes out at once – that was a little awkward. Other than that, very tasty!

This is the best Hainan Chicken Rice. Yes, the field’s become rather crowded with various Asian restaurants having this on their menu. The Hainan chicken rice served here is the quintessential Singaporean recipe. It is served with unique and very specific condiments(you know if you’re Singaporean). For no-frills deli-style dining, their prices are quite expensive. Be prepared to spend $ 30 for 2 people. However if you have a craving for real Singaporean food, this is one of the few places that do it well. It is owner-operated, always a good thing and the staff are friendly as well. They also carry small batches of Singaporean hawker fare such as various ‘kueh’, sweets or other morsels. You can call ahead to see what they have in store that day.

Pros: The selection of food they make is Outstanding! Cozy atmosphere Friendly service Convenient Cons: A bit pricey If they are busy, since they cook their food fresh, the wait can be 20 – 30 minutes and up Parking can a be a problem when Mt. Sac is in session

Love love love this place, their food is so yummy whatever you choose you will like it. The service is the best, they will help you choose if you don’t know what to get, they will tell you about their special, and if you don’t like spicy like me they will not put any on to the food. They treat so nice, whatever you want they give you. The wait is not that long. The design is so cute, and cozy. Good food + nice people = best restaurant ever. They also give student discounts, so bring your ID to them. –HC.

We have been here a couple of times now. What a gem! Everything was very tasty. Even though there may be a little bit of a wait during busy times, it’s worth it because everything is made fresh. Nasi Lemak — a whole bunch of tasty food, including fried chicken, fried fish, spam, egg, and a very generous serving of coconut rice Hainan chicken rice — as authentic and delicious as the ones we had in Singapore. Came with the three traditional sauces, which are soy sauce, ginger with scallion, and spicy sauce. Get them fast before they run out! They have run out every time I dined there Laksa — a staple of Singaporean cuisine Chicken curry with roti — delicious; only slight disappointment is that it doesn’t quite taste as amazing as it smells, but still very good Satay — both good, but pork is better Curry puff — reminds me of samosas Service always with a smile. Reasonable cost for tasty food. We will continue to frequent this establishment.

They now offer authentic Hainan chicken rice(previously they only had the fried chicken version). But as of this writing it’s on a limited basis, check the Facebook postings or call to see if they have it. Finally, chicken rice done right — authentic Singaporean chicken rice always comes with the homemade chili sauce(not sriracha), which a lot of places don’t offer. Very flavorful rice, and the chicken comes skin-on, the way it should be. And chicken soup is served complimentary, unlike some other places that actually charge for it.

This place is pretty good. It is across the street from my school so it’s convenient when I am in the mood for noodles or curry. I have only tried their ramen & house special noodle here. I forgot how the ramen tastes but I recently just got the house noodle dry & it’s pretty tasty. It reminds me of chiu chow which is a Chinese dish. It’s dry noodles w/meat, shrimp, and fish balls. I’m not sure what sauce they used over their noodles. And they gave me soup on the side. The portion was a pretty good size, I got so full off of it. I definitely want to come back and try their chicken curry & roti, that looks good.

This place always is very friendly, and their food is amazing too. I used to visit Singapore a lot since my parents are from there and this is honestly the closest you can really get to any type of Singaporean food here. Although I feel that it’s not completely authentic, it still hits the spot whenever I’m craving it. The food here is really good. No matter what you get, it’s still pretty satisfying. I love their chicken katsu curry– the portions are HUGE and the chicken katsu has the perfect amount of crispy crunchy goodness. I usually order to-go, so I don’t really know what the sit-down service here is like, but I still highly recommend this place.

I was madddd craving Laksa this weekend and my sister decided to take me here for lunch. The place is very casual, and it’s more of a fast-dining place. You order at the register, find a seat in the dining area, and the food comes out when it’s ready… which in our case, took awhile. + Laksa Noodle — This was very mediocre. The broth was spicy, but not very flavorful. Maybe the spice overpowered the soup flavor, but I’ve definitely had better. The noodles that it came with was also not my favorite. It’s a rice noodle that has a weird texture. + Croquette — This was probably the worst dish of the day. The croquette tasted of the frozen variety. It was not fresh at all, and the exterior wasn’t crispy. There was some weird thousand island sauce drizzled on it that didn’t really compliment the potato. + Curry Chicken with Roti — This was a 5 star dish. The curry was full of spice and flavor. There was a nice kick to it, and the curry was thick and not runny. They gave generous amounts of chicken and potatoes as well, so it was very filling. The roti was also perfect — crispy, flaky, and yet very fluffy. Highly recommend this dish. + Crispy chicken rice plate — Again, I was not a fan. The chicken was really dry, flavorless, and over-cooked. The rice was tasty, although really hard and dry — tasted old and like it had been sitting out for awhile. For the overall dining experience, this place was okay. The service was slow, and empty tables around us still were un-bussed and full of dirty plates. The place and décor is drab, and it’s also located in a weird plaza. Check-in on Unilocal for a free fountain drink! Yay for that.

I’m definitely a fan of Singaporean/Malaysian food so I’m glad I Finally came around to trying this nondescript restaurant If you’re in a hurry don’t come during peak lunch hour because they are short handed BUT at least they were nice enough to warn us about the 25 minute wait for our food before we ordered —laksa noodles: yum! Not as potent as I’ve tried in Malaysia but this was good with a hefty amount of shrimp! —curry puff: SO worth the $ 1.50! A great appetizer NOTE: it’s across from mt sac on the side of yoshinoya(I totally missed it because the sign is ABOVE vape monkeys)

Being a Singaporean, I felt so homely when I’m here. Saw all the familiar food on today’s special menu such as Nasi Lemak, Mee Siam, Otak, Prawn Noodles, Bak Chang. I didn’t expect myself to be able to find Singapore food here in U.S. Curry Chicken with Rice/Prata is sooo good! The curry is thick, creamy and slight spicy and full of flavor. Best eaten when it’s piping hot! Very tasty! ~ 5⁄5 Hainanese Chicken Rice is wayyyy better than Savour(as claimed by many that they love the chicken there). They should try this version and I’m sure they will loveeeee it. Chicken is soft and tender, goes really well with the 3 kinds of sauces served. ~ 4⁄5 Chwee Kway was sooo good, the cai po is so tasty and flavorful. Was exactly how it should taste like! ~ 3⁄5 Bak Chang is not what I expected to find here since it requires lot of time to prepare it. Need the time to prepare the ingredients, the leaf and the sticky glutinous rice. Very tasty! ~ 5⁄5 Prawn Noodles is one of my favorite! The soup reminds me of my favourite to-go place to have my bowl of prawn noodles at Amk S-11 coffee shop. The soup is heavily! Prawns is big and fresh. What more can I ask for? ~ 5⁄5 Black Carrot Cake has been my childhood breakfast meal and I’ve not eaten it for more than a year. Oh ask from the staff if they have do, sometimes they do but it’s not in the menu. ~ 3⁄5 Laksa soup base is exactly the same but the noodles taste thicker than usual. But well it’s definitely good enough to be able to find Laksa here in US(with no cockles). ~ 4⁄5 Very satisfied with the food here. I’m impressed how they managed to have different dishes on the special menu all the time whenever I’m there! Good job and hope you guys keep it up! Tips: ~ Check-in Unilocal and get a free cup of soft drink ~ Call them before you go down, to check with them what’s the«today’s special» menu. They usually have more special items on weekends.

Being a Singaporean, I’m always looking out for Singapore food. When I find one, I get super excited, UNTIL I taste the food and discover that is not really authentic. Kindda sad really, missing home cooked food and all. So one day, my fellow Singaporean friend told me about this place and she raved about their laksa saying IT’S THEREALDEAL!!! I just had to try. I went the very next day!!! LOL! The owner, Joy, took my order and all I can say is, it’s nice to meet another home friend! I ordered the famous laksa($ 9.90?) and asked if they have mee Siam. They did!!! But husband wants to try a sample of the gravy before getting it to make sure it’s not too shrimpy. Joy was kind enough to let us sample a small bowl of it. When I tasted it, it brought me back home. To my mama’s homemade mee Siam. I was so happy!!! Ordered the curry puffs and boy was it tasty! It’s our version of empanadas but with chicken, potatoes and egg inside. Savory with a hint of spice and sweetness. Good portion too. Husband got the fried chicken rice with all the good stuff. Side of soup and garlic chili!!! My laksa came and WOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHH! It was delicious. Spicy, sweet coconut goodness. This dish does not have a lot of meat so don’t expect it. I got maybe 3 prawns? Noodles, bean sprouts, fried tofu and a whole lot of gravy. I brought it back home and ate it with rice! YUM!!! I’m Sooo coming back to try other dishes and the kuihs over the weekend. Thank you for your hospitality Joy! See you again soon!
