Went here for dinner the other night with the gals and expected better since all my friends have told me good things. First of all, my waitress, Katie, was pretty rude and wouldn’t stop rolling her eyes at me and when I tried to talk to the other waitress, Ashley, she did the same and acted busy although it was pretty empty(3 – 4 tables max). Second of all, the bread that was served was a combination of stale depression era bread and fresh out the oven bread, the soup was lukewarm at best and our salad was obviously reused since I found a piece of salami in it. Then when we were served our sour cream there was a piece of potato and lettuce in it. The dinner was mediocre. Also noticed when we were served our bread by a lady named Martha, her hands were severely unhygienic. Really sad to write such a poor review, especially since I’ve had experience working in the restaurant business, but it just seems these people don’t care.

This is not your typical lunch or dinner spot! It’s up in the middle of nowhere in the Sacramento Delta area. It’s definitely a locals hangout and is a bit on the dive-ish end of the spectrum. When I walked in the first time, I felt like a fish out of water and wondered how long it had been since they painted the place and opened up the blinds, but then I ordered a cold brew and was treated to a home style meal. By the time I was finished, I felt like I had found one of those out-of-the-way gems. If they had painted the interior or changed anything, it would not have the same feel. It reminded me of going to my grandma’s farm house in Missouri when I was growing up. The house wasn’t slick and new and not exactly tidy, but she was full of warmth and she was always busy in the kitchen getting ready for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the end, I realized the only thing that made me feel out of my element was me(and maybe I wasn’t dressed like one of the local farmers either). But, instead of being treated like an intruder or outsider like I expected, I was greeted warmly and treated to a great meal. It has a bar and a separate dining room. Much of the fare is served family style. Seems to me that many folks come here for the fried chicken and steaks. It’s not on the cheap side, but if you’re paying for food and a new experience, it’s worth the drive and the money.

Place seems way over-priced to me! Prime rib was $ 28 and it was semi-tough and barely seasoned. Six small prawns were $ 18.50. But they tasted Excellent!(Otherwise this review would be a two star review.) I was hoping for lasagne but they removed it from the very short menu. The sign on the way in teased me with Lamb shank but that is only available on the second Tuesday following a full moon. The soup seemed like it was made a few days ago. Good flavor but mush!(And, it was packed with too many beans that gave both of us gas) good minestrone should be made often and served with veggies and pasta that are not cooked till they mush! The service was quick but seriously lacked personality. I work hard for my money and I feel like there are far better deals out there. I am not going back. Next time I want to drive to a meal I am going back to the Willo, near Nevada City. Or, maybe back to the Union Hotel in Occidental for the best carrot cake on Earth!

Worst service ever. The waitress that helped us was not helpful at all. A big deal was made over a bowl of soup. They had brought us a bowl to share the clam chowder but it was only enough for 2 people. I didn’t get any so I asked the waitress for my soup and she said that what she brought to the table SHOULD’VE been enough. I paid for my food so I have the right to get it. Then when we were paying our bill, they had added a «bar tab» onto our bill when we were nowhere near the bar. The only good experience about it all was this older, Spanish lady who comes to pick up the dishes from the table. She was very helpful and respectful. She apologized on everyone else’s behalf. Never going back here due to the lack of customer service.

Party of 14 was so damn loud we could not get our orders to the waitress so we had to walk out in the bar to play Star Wars we asked if they could maybe be a little bit more quiet and that wasn’t possible can we eat in the bar area. I am a local and cannot figure out why everybody was put to endure to the noise at this table. I was on my best behavior a date. And she just went out to the truck and got my air horn out and blow it off in side 3 employees I talk to did not want to confront the table. I didn’t want to get 86th out of there party that big has an automatic tip added to it. ot to mention it was a table of 50 to 60 year olds I definitely was proud of my date jumping the managers ass. A failure to control their customers when the waitresses sees us writing on paper because we can’t hear each other talk you would think there’d be an issue. I should have just walked out. You would think somebody would have some balls there to tell a table to keep it quiet you’re bothering the rest of the customer’s. Note to the restaurant a_b_c violation have drunk customers and still be serving them for cheaper than ever you’re with your license suspended 2 months.

A culinary delight. I ordered the fried chicken which came with a very generous bowl of home made minestrone soup, french fries, bread and butter. The meal was superb. The bar and restaurant are charming with a cool vintage vibe. This is a wonderful place on the delta to relax and have a drink from the well stocked bar or a delicious home cooked meal .Bön Appétit

I sadly was not impressed. I feel if your not 50+ your not welcome here. Maybe it’s because I went during winter season. Maybe I’ll try again when the warm boating season starts. The minestrone soup was ok but nothing like what guy fietti(diners drive in and dives) expressed. I’m surprised this place mad it on his map. Greasy under seasoned not the cleanest place. :(

The Minestrone soup was very good. The dressing on the salad was very tasty, kinda thousand island and italian dressing mix. We ordered the veal, not much flavor, my date says it tasted like cardboard. I don’t know if I’ll go that far. Also had the special, Flat iron steak with peppcorn sauce, very salty and I like salty.

This was a spur of the moment Valentine’s/Anniversary dinner. Bob wanted to drive out to Walnut Grove to show me a beautiful Delta sunset. We missed it by a few minutes but the after part was beautiful too… lots of pinks and blues. Of course during our sunset chase we passed Guisti’s…so why not stop in for a bite! Thought we were early enough to scoot right into the dining room but had over an hour wait! It’s to be expected although for a large party they will reserve a table. We both had the pesto, I told the waitress to add prawns to Bob’s which is one of the choices. We brought most of it home as by the time it arrived, we’d filled up on the crusty doughy yummy sourdough bread, minestrone, salad, and antipasto! Note to self, split an entrée next time! We’ve yet to make it out for Italian night or the prime rib week night deal. It’s right up Bob’s alley, but limited choices for me as I don’t eat beef, lamb, pork, or crustations! If you want to experience the Delta hospitality in all its glory stop by for a bite!

Really good food. Looks a little run down and sketchy on the outside and yeah even on the inside but soup and salad were yum and so were our entrees. I would like to return! Parking is rough. It’s not high-end. It’s like made from scratch home cooking. Definitely better than franchise-y joints.

They don’t take plastic!!! I would have given five stars if they took Visa. The steak and service was awesome. Just bring cash. Or pay the transaction fees at the ATM in the bar plus what ever your bank charges for using an out of network machine. I just don’t understand doing business like its the1900’s.
