Jazz At the Lesher

Last night Alan and I attended the first concert of the Jazz at the Lesher series. This is its first year. The 8:00 series sold out immediately, so a 5:00 series was added. Though both are sold out it’s possible that individual tickets will become available for future concerts, so if you’re interested I suggest you call the box office. The concert was held in the 300 seat Margaret Lesher Theatre, the medium size of the Lesher Center’s three theatres, I suspect next year’s series will be held in the 800 seat Hofmann since this series sold out so quickly, but we’ll see.
To my surprise earplugs were available at the doors to the auditorium. We took them, although I didn’t need them for American Idiot at Berkeley Rep when they were offered a couple of seasons ago and doubted I would need them at this concert. The auditorium was cozy and even though we were in the last row we felt close to the musicians. Though the trumpet was piercing at times, for the most part it wasn’t THAT loud and we didn’t need the earplugs. The music was fabulous, the sound was good and the musicians were having as good a time as we were. I look forward to the concerts coming up, when we will be hearing John Pizzarelli, Wycliffe Gordon and Jane Monheit. Maybe we’ll pay another visit to Corners Tavern beforehand.
