Bank of the West

I’ve had no issues with these guys. I moved here from SC and they have been fast and reliable, just pike the SC branch.

Terrible service from every department I dealt with. I had an auto loan that I wanted to pay off early. I was told I could pay it off via an electronic payment. When I was transferred to a different department I was then told I needed to go into the branch. I was given multiple payoff amounts and when I wanted the amount clarified the branch employees did not seem particularly concerned with accuracy, or seem to grasp the concept of why it needed to be a precise amount to close the loan. I was able to determine the amount they quoted me was actually incorrect and luckily I caught it.
As if that isn’t scary enough, I had called the bank 2 – 3 times a year over the life of the loan stating that I wasn’t receiving statements. I confirmed my current address every time I called and obtained a balance. The loan was paid via an auto-​debit from my account, but I continued to not received statements and report this. I DID receive all of the privacy policy updates and tax documents for the loan at my new address for years. After I paid off the loan, I called because it had been weeks and I hadn’t received any confirmation of the loan being closed or the title to the vehicle. I was informed that the title had been sent to my old address and was now lost. I had given them my new address many times over the years and had been receiving documents from their bank at the new address. The vehicle was also registered at the new address for years.
This is one sloppy operation and I would never trust these people with my money.

gave me $ 35 fee for check bouncing when i had the money in my account
ask to have it reversed
they cant because theyre not my branch
also had to go in and change my address 4 different times because they where sending bank statements to my old address
they only stopped when i went with just online statements

the online banking is just as useless as the bank itself
i have closed my account and will never be coming back. i know i didnt have thousands in my account but i was still a customer and i will take my business elsewhere…

Please don’t be fooled by BNP franchise on their logo — I bet this is more due to mistake.
I’m more than 10 years client of another BNP bank.
Time from entering the door and exiting 100% satisfied ~5 mins, normally less.
I was willing to open a business checking account.
I’ve waited 5 minutes while the only client service manager was chatting by phone.
I’ve wasted 10 more minutes to listen why this clerk can’t open a checking account for me.
He was smiling so broadly that he found the reason why he should do nothing, instead attempting to do something.
There is nothing in common with BNP.
Never ever will enter this door.

Hate this bank!
When they think there’s erroneous charges instead of asking me they f n block my card.
I had to sit on hold for a person for 15 – 20 minutes just to find this out!
They are only protecting themselves and totally inconveniencing me!!!

One star because they closed their doors at 4:58 and turned away 4 customers that were there before closing time at 5pm.

Very disappointed in my bank right now. I immediately reported fraudulent debit card activity on my checking account. They admitted that in addition to the 5 charges I was reporting, there were two more they stopped for the same day, acknowledging someone else had access to my debit card account number even though I had the card in my possession.
They said they would mail the paperwork to sign as follow up to me but indicated the charges were reversed on my account. In fact, the pending transactions disappeared later that day from online banking. However, the actual charges appeared the next day along with overdraft fees for each charge. When I called to see why, I was told it was because they leave them there until the paperwork has been completed and returned to the branch. I haven’t even received it in snail mail yet! In addition, they won’t order a new debit card while my account is in overdraft status! What?!? My account is a disaster and they are not assisting in any way. Others in similar situations who bank elsewhere have shared that their banks have handled this much more efficiently and effectively. BofW acknowledged other banks may do it differently. I hope to never need to know how other banks handle it but I will be banking elsewhere. I need a bank on my side not the criminals.

Great personalized customer service, and most of the tellers really know what they are doing. A couple of notable exceptions. Short lines and you can actually call the branch and talk to a person whom you know – you know what they look like and where they sit or stand in the bank. I have my home mortgage there, along with several bank accounts, and I refi’d it recently. It was quick, cheap and efficient and the woman who handles the home mortgages is knowledgeable,
. One gripe: the people whose job it is to sell you additional services are a little too pushy.
E-​banking, on the other hand, is a bad joke. This is not the fault of the branch but of the bank itself. They have redone it numerous times and it is still something out of the last century. For example, there is no way to search for a check I have written, and which was cashed, by check number! One small example.

Small branch, untrained employees who won’t admit they don’t know answers. I’m trying to close the account of a deceased account holder. I am the estate rep, and provided all documents, yet they are continually demanding more documentation, including private trust documents that the bank has no legal right to see.
Go to a better, bigger bank with employees that are trained.

Most of the East Bay branches are on the smaller side and the WC location is no exception. Tellers are helpful and cordial without laying it on too thick with the «nice weather we’re having” — type banter that sometimes slows things to a grinding halt. And their revamped ATM machine credits cash deposits SAME day instead of next day, a plus for me when I make the occasional after hours deposit.
Only question — Lafayette, Orinda and Concord branches are open Saturdays, so why not you guys?

— A lot of employees don’t seem to know what is going on (training/​complexed issues) and seem to have to switch you to different employees since the tellers have the most basic training, and the more ‘elite’ staff are only experts are their one special field (which is frustrating when one of them is out on lunch or they’re not up to date with how to fix the problem)
— Might get transferred to a lot of different staff there and have to explain your situation multiple times.
— It took us 30 – 40 minutes because our bank account was ‘outdated’ and they didn’t even know why we were being charged fees because their system couldn’t ‘access’ our outdated account. I thought all Bank of the West were created equal? (Apparently your start-​up branch has more power than the other branches around you…)

I’ve tried to do the smaller bank thing. My mom swore we would LOVE Bank of the West but I’ve had nothing but problems.
This is the second time I’ve deposited a check for my daughter who is a minor that they have given me problems. We aren’t talking $ 10K checks either. We’re talking birthday/​Christmas money from relatives who write the check in their name, even though she is 5 and doesn’t have an account at Bank of the West.
So frustrating. This final time when they told me that had to mail it back to me sealed the deal that we’re leaving. I’m done with Bank of the West.

I hate this bank and all it’s branches. talk about corporate bureaucracy at it’s best. Unfriendly staff, and incompetent tellers

I was very satisfied with the customer service I received from Jasmine Adiani at this branch. I had a large check to deposit and the company protocol calls for a two week hold on the funds. Jasmine made some phone calls and made the funds available to me the next day! I was wowed! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because of Bank of the West’s policy to hold on to the funds for two weeks. In this electronic age, I know they receive the funds much sooner than that, so I assume the policy allows them to «float» the cash at no cost.

Do NOT purchase an equity line with any BRANCH of Bank of the West… they will take your money to buy insurance YOU DO NOT NEED… first time they took $ 6000.00 for flood insurance when I already had a current policy and it took them 16 DAYS to credit it back… now they have taken $ 1183.00 for flood insurance for our GARAGE???
They do NOT know what the other half is doing at this business!
I am moving ALL business from them to CHASE!
