Whatever you call it; Sub, Grinder, Hoagie, Hero, Po’Boy, Spuckie, it’s still just a sandwich. Being from CT, I was raised calling this type of sandwich, a grinder. You can find a grinder just about anywhere; from a chain like Subway to the grocery store, to your local pizza shop. Then, along comes DiBella’s, and blows them all out of the water. DiBella’s starts with freshly made, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside bread. They even offer an «Everything» bread. You have a choice of hot or cold subs. The meat is alway fresh and lean. The cheese and veggie choices are always fresh. It took me a few visits to get the condiments figured out. I take mine with a little of everything; light mayo, spicy mustard and their special oil. So yummy! They offer 3 sizes; small, medium and large. Small is perfect for 1 person. The medium is great for someone with a larger appetite. The large is for those of us that would enter a hot dog eating contest. Me? I’m somewhere between a small and medium. A small is always the safer choice. When given a choice, DiBella’s always beats out those other chain grinder shops.

In the beginning service was great the subs were overloaded with meat the bread fresh and the condiments crisp. Clean w a nice staff. Now, no staff paying attention, place is dirty. Sandwich was more bread than meat and was fair at best. Joke !!

I’ve been wanting to write this review for a long time, and here it goes. Though I am now vegan, a little over a year ago my dad and I had a long day working together and got really excited on our way home from work to see a DiBellas. We walked in only to find out it wasn’t open to the public yet and they were doing employee training. As we went to turn around, the manager asked if we would be open to free subs and testing out the employees as a trial run then leaving out honest feedback. Of course! Well, we did and that was the last time I ate out with my dad, just me and my big guy. He passed away a few months later tragically. The memory of this special place always makes me think of him and that happy day for us. It’s been 1 year since he passed and I’ll always remember the kindness and excitement this place brought us on that long day after working. It was a pleasant surprise. Thank you, again.

I’d much rather go to subway. The sub is mediocre at BEST, it really has no appeal to it at all. The sub lacks flavor, I’m guessing they have the counters hidden for a reason. I caught a glimpse of the girl making my sub and the turkey came out of a bag, it wasn’t even stacked as it should be. But then again, the turkey was very watery. Service was also very bad, stood there for about 5 minutes before someone even came over– mind you it wasn’t even busy when I went in. The girl was very rude, if I wasn’t such a nice person I would leave my sub there and take my money elsewhere. All around bad.

This submarine shop sets itself apart as soon as you walk in the door. The ambience and decorum transport you to old world elegance. This puts extreme pressure on the edible expectations but no worries there. Fresh baked breads which resemble the texture and richness of a good bagel, topped with delicious shavings of meat, delectable cheese choices, and your choice of spread together form a delicious creation all your own. I recently attended a function catered by DiBella’s and they not only have an eye for details, but are deliberate about quality and freshness no matter what the quantity. If you haven’t tried them but love a great sandwich, you owe it to yourself to go today.

Better than subway, and above average for a chain. Service was fast and friendly, salads are far from fresh.

I became aware of DiBella’s on some visits I had taken to Wallingford & had always wanted to try them & finally did. Coming from Stamford where the only sandwich places we have are the ordinary Subway & some unremarkable delis, I had high hopes for DiBella’s . Well I’m disappointed as I’ve been to both the Wallingford & Newington locations with the same result. Bottom line– the meat used is just a bad cut of meat. I’ve tried the roast beef & philly steak sandwiches with the same outcome – poor quality of meat. The meatball wedge was average at best but in all fairness practically nobody makes/uses homemade meatballs anymore so meatball wedges usually run the gamut from average to poor. The macaroni salad is fine but nothing to rave about. Oh & also the bread was mediocre. The staff, primarily young men & women, are ok & were helpful my 1st time there as I had a few questions. Dibella’s appears to be a clean establishment. This was a place I really had high hopes for but unfortunately it’s a bust. Honestly I wouldn’t mind paying more for a sandwich that had better quality of meat. I subsequently found out that DiBellas is a chain restaurant which is probably the reason for the typical– fair quality food. The dining area is pretty routine & unremarkable but it’s ideal for families with kids. I really really wish I coulda given this place a 4 or 5 star but DiBellas just doesn’t deserve it.

Stopped in for lunch today. Ordered the Dibella’s dip. Staff was friendly enough, but the food was rather plain. Their bread has a weird bagel-like quality to it. The outside of the bread is a little tough and the au juis didn’t really soak into it. Prices are a little steep for what you get. Not bad, but not a place I would seek out.

I love their French Dip on an everything roll. OMG. Heaven. No frills, just meat and cheese and a great roll with a side of Au Jus. *faint* so good. Plus the place is pretty new and looks nice inside. I keep going back.

I had my first Dibellas sub several weeks ago. The prices are reasonable, the sandwiches are massive and i thought it tasted fresh and tasty. I actually called my brother and made the bold statement that it was better then Nardelli’s, another local sandwich chain. Based on that experience I would have likely given it 3.5 or 4 stars. Today is another story. I ordered the old fashioned sub(turkey, ham, salami) which is exactly what i got last time. I got it on everything bread which tasted like burnt onions and garlic. The bread was terrible. The sandwich was huge which was consistent with last time but it lacked any real flavors. The veggies tasted stale and one of the peppers even appeared rotten. The entire sandwich was over powered by the horrible bread. based on this experience it is unlikely I will return.

This place is a great sub place. If you want something quick but doesn’t tarnish how good the product is, this is the place. The quality of meat and bread is wonderful, regardless of whether it’s a hot or cold sub. Their dibellas cheesesteak is awesome, and so are all of their cold cuts. The bread is what separates them from subway. It is very good for a quick meal. They are also known for their pickles, so if you like them, they are also good. It is a great atmosphere with classic moldings and old school booths; the music is Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald which made it feel like I was somewhere else for alittle. Great place to at least try once, promise you’ll come back when you hit a craving.

Not the best, not the worst. Ordered a large Godfather the other day(their fancy name for an Italian Combo) on everything bread. The food was good, overall, with the bread being the standout component. I’d have wished the employee took the time to explain the sizes(the large was way too much for me at 13−14″) and I felt the staff just wanted to race everyone along. The dining area was a little dirty, odd since we arrived just before the lunch rush. Then again, there were children present… Parking is ok, prices are reasonable. I’d call it a step up from subway, but not much more than that.

The place is clean. The employees are friendly. The system is flawless. So why only two stars? It’s the bread. I don’t know what it is, but the outside of it is shiny as if it was polyurethaned. I believe they wash it in egg whites, and it smells bad. That’s right. The bread smells similar to fish. Every bite of my sub fills my nose with a fishy egg white smell. It completely ruins the sub. Next time you go give it a good sniff and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

First time there. Ordered a small multigrain buffalo chicken. Asked for a drop of ranch. Too bad they bathed it in buffalo sauce. I was excited that they offered what looked like a great multigrain sub roll and a decent size for the price. However, it was in edible by the time I got home with soggy bread and sauce that poured out all over. I typically give a new place a second chance. Next time I’ll keep it simple with a cold turkey sandwich and see how they do. The chocolate chip cookie was very good!

Eh… it’s subpar at best. The bread lacks flavor and the sliced meat is just above subway. I’ve given them 2 fair shots, but I won’t make any effort to go back there.

Ordered a Godfather sub on everything bread. This bread is delicious and the meats are capicolla, salami, spicy ham(not sure what this is), and provolone. Very good sandwich. Now the bad… Empty tables were dirty. It was not busy either. Last thing, I walked into the rest room and an employee was texting on his cell. I walked out waited a few minutes but he stayed in there. I was sitting eating when he finally came out. I like this place except the tables being dirty and the restroom incident.

Place has gone down hill, quick. Went in today — had to go past the woman making the bread and her friend(with a Popeye tattoo hahaha) chit chatting, to place our order to find out they don’t have any bread. What? What does that even mean? This is a sub shop, their speciality is their bread. Bummer, I was super excited for them to be in my town but now I won’t be back.

Great place love the fresh bread and so far I’ve gone twice and have gotten two different subs. Turkey and a Chicken Philly hot sub. Both were very very good and the breads are addicting. Also had white choc Mac nut cookies those too are awesome!
