They have such a good poke(and other stuff in that case) selection here. They have pickled ogo, which I haven’t seen elsewhere.

This place is the best! Great prices, friendly service. I love it! The best pickled garlic poke, and to go food everrrr! The rotisserie chicken hidden in the back corner of the store is the best chicken! Perfectly seasoned, It’s sooooo ono! They’ve really been stocking up too on some specialty items(like orzo) that are way better priced than Whole Foods and Down to Earth… Thanks Tamuras!!!

I’ve always wanted to try Tamura’s poke because I always hear great things about it! I was able to get my chance this past weekend while on my way to yokes. The poke & deli counter are on the right side as soon as you walk in. There were so many different types of poke to choose from! They had a smoked salmon & a tripe poke which was quite different. I went with the spicy ahi poke bowl($ 10). It was huge & so heavy. They don’t just sprinkle furikake on top of the rice. They mix it completely in & a lot of it too! It was so good! I ate all my rice. The workers were so sweet & very helpful especially since I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to order. Then I had to decide between fork or chopstick, but I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to inhale my poke or eat it like a civilized citizen. Luckily the lady gave me both! Definitely stop by on your way to the beach to pick up some great beach grinds!

Everyone friendly, you can walk in straight from the beach looking a mess and will get no weird stares. Impossible to walk in and not run into someone you know. Glad they are starting to sell more oriental and filipino products.

Where do I start with Tamura… It’s great to see this store still running strong. I remember coming here as a child in the earlier 1980s. Living in Waianae this was the only store I looked forward going to with my grandparents. The staff here has been working here for years so the loyalty to this company is amazing to see and it shows though their great customer services. When I walk in here I feel like I’m at my auntie or uncle’s house. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and efficient. The vegetables are always fresh, the poki is very yummy and over all I recommend this store. Now I come here to buy all my goodies to bring back to the mainland for my family and friends.

Going to Tamura’s is like going to a relative’s house-you just gotta pay for the stuff you like, Lol… Employees are nice, good selection of foods, has a poke and deli dept. Also, a liquor dept. for those who like get plastered. Pastele getting more pricey but, their fried chicken blow away Zippy’s and it’s much cheaper.

Offering a Mainlander’s perspective here. It’s the type of place you imagine small town locals shop at, but it’s not that much smaller than any Foodland, just doesn’t look as polished. Instead you get that hometown vibe and look down the aisles. The front door does have some rules posted, such as no large bags being allowed in the store. //POKE STATION\\ Tried some of the poke selection, good few things to choose from. There was a long line forming at the poke counter, but the lady working didn’t hesitate to let us sample what my mom was debating over. She even turned around and pretended to busy herself with something so that my mom could have enough time to taste it and decide. That’s really considerate customer service. We ended up getting the limu ahi and the tripe poke. The tripe was good. I thought the limu ahi was a little too salty, but it was the crunchiest the limu I’d had. Wish they had this available on the Mainland! Didn’t get to try the cooked section, and that had a long line, too. So people don’t just come here for the groceries, the food must be some kind of good.

Their poke is a little expensive compared to most places. If you get a poke bowl, the rice comes with furikaki, which tastes really good. Their taegu is delicious and tastes fresher than other markets. The chicken and rice bowl is good and about $ 8. The poke bowl was $ 10.99. I probably won’t come back here again… the food was just alright. It is a super market too though, so I’d come here to get groceries but not poke bowls or chicken bowls.

It was busy today for the 4th. Everyone getting stuff last minute. They have good deals better than Waianae store. The meadows juice is only $ 0.89 rather than Waianae $.99. The staff was stocking stuff but not well well stocked. They run out of NOH ice tea. They get 2 crates of it but it goes fast. They have a private parking. And also across the street. They also have street parking but good luck. Great staff but a little lazy when you ask for something. But then you get some that will be work their butt off.

They suck!!! I bought hamburger from them today and there was flies in it! I called the lady on the phone told me to bring my receipt and I could get my money back. So I did that and when I got to the store the manager Steve told me I couldn’t get my money back because I didn’t have the hamburger. Wtf was I supposed to do dig it out the rubbish can !!! One things for sure they don’t give two shits about customer service! He told me I couldn’t prove that there was a fly! Really ‚?! Calling me a lair! This store is stupid !

In the ghetto of Oahu? I read this in one of the reviews and really now? This can’t be further from the truth. Actually, compared to the mainland nowhere in the state of Hawaii can there be considered a «ghetto» place. Anyway onwards to my review which may be biased since Waianae is my hometown and I can remember shopping here since I was a child. Not once in the twenty something years have I ever remembered anything going wrong here. In a review someone mentioned this is where homeless people shop for food. Excuse me? Wherever that person is from they must have separate grocery stores exclusively for the homeless since it’s a shock that homeless people can get their food from anywhere but a dumpster. Rude. Anyway back to my review lol. This store has been kept pretty clean all throughout the years considering stores that’s been around for decades seem to be grungy and dirty. They have even renovated so that’s a plus. The products are always stocked and prices are cheap and reasonable. They have a meat section, produce, dairy, liquor and all the regular sections that a good grocery store should have plus a poke and hot foods area in the front of the store. I love their produce section since it seems that they are trying to work more organic produce and locally grown products into their store which is a huge plus for me. Never had a problem with customer service, the workers are friendly and plenty helpful. The poke section is the best part of Tamura imo. Naturally the price of fish on the market is high due to shortage and overfishing, so it’s reasonable that the prices fluctuate. I like that in most of their poke they label where the fish is from if that matters to anyone. There is a good selection of fish to choose from so take your time. They even have pickled garlic which is the best because it doesn’t taste like you’re eating garlic at all, so try that. Their soy beans are really good and all of their poke since I’ve pretty much had them all. My favorite is the spicy ahi, throw it in with some rice and it’s the best. Sometimes they have bacalao salad which is another plus because it’s soo good. Parallel to the poke is the hot foods, which they carry different foods depending on what day it is so there is always something different to try along with the regular menus. Their fried noodles are really good, maybe a little oily but fried noodles, FRIED, in oil, what do you expect. Anyway there are lots of things to try in here so go for it. Other notes: parking is alright except during holidays as expected. Also avoid the food stamps time of the month since it gets really crowded and lines are really long. I don’t know when that is though.

This place is a grocery store, a deli, and liquor store all in one. The prices are excellent, which is why it is always busy. There are a few items that are not there, and some things are difficult to find of you don’t shop there every day. It’s definitely not safeway or foodland, but it is a great mom and pops store. The poke and plays lunches are winners!

It seems so weird to review a store I’ve been going to since a little girl but you really can’t get cheaper than Waianae Tamuras. it’s guaranteed super crowded though. Sometimes I totally skip Tamuras and go to the Waianae Store instead for that reason. It’s easy to figure out where everything is. They have a deli where they sell«hot» and«cold» foods. The poke is always good. There’s a pharmacy and a liquor store section.

Starting to shop at this store since I moved on the west side. Everything is cheap! So many sales, and even if it is NOT on sale, it definitely beats the prices in town! I felt like a tourist walking around in there, looking at the aisle numbers and reading what is where. Soon enough, a nice employee asks if I needed help finding anything. He walks me around the store and shows me where everything is and gets me everything I needed! Awesome customer service! The rotisserie chicken there is only $ 7 for one so I got 2 for dinner, and I got ice cream for dessert(Foremost brand 2/$ 7) and 5 swiss/Meadow gold juice at 79 cents each! the total came out to just over $ 25! I just wish they were open earlier/later! that would be awesome! Keep it up Tamura employees!

Locally owned Grocery Store that has helped the Waianae Coast! After a major renovation — the store looks more spacious and the aisles are wide enough for locals to walk down! They have a Seafood and Deli area in front of the store! Always good for a plate lunch or bento to go! They also cater, which is a plus! Try not to hit the store too hard the first week of the month due to EBT customers, you’ll be in line for a long time! They just opened a pharmacy, which is new to Tamura’s ! Produce is local and fresh! Can’t go wrong with the prices. Take some time to look at the newspaper for savings or take your time browsing the store, you’ll find some really good sales. They have a liquor area and Sundries goods for the small stuff. Make sure to check those out. I bought some Tennis Balls that were a reasonable price instead of driving all the way to Kapolei. Happy Shopping!

The Tamura supermarket, though smaller than Sack & Save, has a very decent liquor selection, actually stocking Cointreau, and at a good price. Curiously, while they sell Tangeray gin at the extremely excellent price of $ 20/fifth, they vend a fifth of Beefeater for $ 37. In Oregon and Washington, the liquor stores generally peddle Tangeray at a higher price than Beefeater. Having said all that, Tangeray and Beefeater are both London Dry Gins, and I’m not sure I can tell a difference between the two. It would, of course, be a little much for me to expect Tamura to stock Portland No. 33, my favorite gin.

We rented one of the houses north of town for a week in November 2013, so we were cooking every day. There was nothing we hoped for that couldn’t be found at Tamura. They’ve got a decent selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and general groceries. The liquor store within the market also came in handy on a couple occasions. Prices are kind of high, but everything costs more in Hawaii when compared to the mainland — oh, except that wonderful fruit!
