The five star reviews here on Unilocal are ridiculous. I will offer you up a picture of my food and you can judge for yourself. This place is terrible. I ordered Beef Fajita Tacos. They took some tortilla chips, added some canned re-fried beans and cheese and placed one burnt up fajita strip on each chip. That’s it… No guac. No tomatoes. No lettuce. I think if I went across the road to the HEB and grabbed a frozen Mexican dinner from the freezer isle and warmed it up it would be hard to tell the difference between that, and the food here. We had a party of 20. Everyone’s meal was«not great» It’s also not exceptionally cheap. The cost of my Nachos was about $ 8. I asked for them to complete the order and make it like the picture on the menu and they returned with a plate full of chips, lettuce, beans, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. distinctly missing were my beef fajita strips. Whoever got those on their meal can review them separately I guess. I was charged an additional $ 2 for guacamole and sour cream. I did not complain because I don’t want to be «that guy.» I’ll chalk up the $ 2 as a learning lesson. Do not eat here.

Amazing food! A religious experience. Do it. Eat here. Do not leave. EVER. And if you like spicy, ask for the green sauce. It is heaven. Friendly and polite staff keep the atmosphere upbeat. Gotta finish my Big Redrita now, bye!

The food is awesome. Authentic and the staff is great. Family owned and still operated. Wish more places were like this.

Love the enchiladas here! Staff is friendly, restaurant is family owned, the Janie special is one of my favorites, but I sub the enchilada for a chicken enchilada. Start your meal off with some chips queso, this place has some of the best queso I’ve had!

Definitely my favorite Mexican food place in Waco. All family owned and operated, and you can tell they truly care about what they are doing/serving. You cannot beat the cheese enchiladas, and they have great specials every day of the week.

Wow. I have been coming here since the college days 20 years ago, and I have yet to be disappointed. Today’s lunch confirms that. Right off I-35, on the circle, very close to the new stadium, so super convenient. Don’t be silly — get the chicken enchiladas. Friends had the fajitas and cheese enchiladas, and agree. Again. Good service, but not the cleanest restrooms in town. Rest of the restaurant very clean. I’ll be back next time I’m in Waco. And again. And again.

This isn’t what I even call tex mex. This place lacks big time. Drinks are good I think that’s all they have going.

Drink specials are great. Wasn’t a soul in there and we could get service. Tacos were soggy and they forgot my 1 year olds food. I will come back, but might be a while.

Exceptionally poor Tex-Mex and service. When you operate a Tex-Mex restaurant in Waco, Tx you really must distinguish yourself with quality food and attentive service. Bottom line Trujillo’s Comedor y Cantina has fallen well-below the standards that are expected for a competitive Tex-Mex restaurant in Central Texas or quite frankly anywhere in the Lone Star State. On my last visit(and last not only referencing the order of visits but also a statement that I’ll not return} I ordered what used to be one of the top selling and best prepared menu items — sour cream chicken enchiladas. What I was served was a tepid plate of conjealed white sauce that bore little resemblance to the sour cream sauce of days past. The shredded chicken inside the soggy corn tortillas was cold and quite frankly low quality. The Charro beans that accompanied the meal were watery with little flavor. The rice was as cold as the enchiladas and as dry as wood chips. My wife’s standard Tex-Mex enchiladas were served cold with what appeared to be a low-grade cheese filler. The chili sauce was tepid and and the refried beans were warmed over and crusty around the edges. Attempts to inform the server of the poorly prepared meal were fruitless as she seemed annoyed that she was asked to serve food and/or respond to additional requests. Trujillo’s has an historic past much like the traffic circle where it is located. However, oen cannot survive on a reputation from the past. Nothing will save this faltering restaurant if the quality of food remains well below average. I would recommend that if one is hungry for Tex-Mex Trujillo’s Comedor y Cantina will not satisfy said hunger but will instead simply leave one wanting and disappointied. Skip Trujillo’s and choose any number of other fine Tex-Mex restaurants in the city

I always have to stop here when I am driving through. The«Tex-Mex» food is very good. My wife likes the fact they use cheddar cheese in the enchiladas. The«Charra Beans» are GREAT! Give it a try.

Trujillo’s definitely leans heavily on the Tex side of Tex-Mex despite the cover story on the menu detailing the Mexican owner’s life history. Almost every item on the menu, if not every item, comes topped with chile con carne. I ordered the cheese enchilladas without the chile con carne and they came topped with queso sauce! Other than the strangeness of cheese topped with cheese instead of say, the tomatillo sauce mentioned in one single place on the menu, the flavors were okay. Chips were warm and thin. Price and speed were right for a quick pit stop on the drive from Austin to Dallas. I paid $ 16.21 including tax, tip, and a glass of chardonnay.
