I wish there was a 10 rating — I’d give it. A little back story — When my husband and I married 32 years ago he was in graduate school and we were dirt poor. We just had simple, gold bands. We were also super skinny — and not so much any more. The band was really constricting my finger. I was wearing a cocktail ring my family gave me with my band to camouflage how bad the band looked. The cocktail ring had broken and I was looking for a diamond ring to replace it but I have no experience buying diamonds. I wanted something with a vintage look because I didn’t want a ring that looked like it came from a mall. After visiting three stores I was about to give up and frustrated with high-pressure sales people. When I entered Gholson I immediately felt comfortable. Rachel was amazing. She explained their primary business is custom jewelry, so if I saw something that wasn’t just perfect, they could modify it. Or, if I saw a ring someplace else like Pinterest, they could make it. Yay! No Mall-store ring! When I told her what I was looking for she pointed out the perfect ring. She made my husband and I feel so comfortable and confident of their services that I agreed to let them cut off and resize my original band. Cutting off the band was gut wrenching because I haven’t taken off for 32 years. But everyone was so great and gentle, we laughed through my tears. When I returned to pick up my rings Rachel was so sweet. She told me to close my eyes while she took the rings out of their package and placed them on my finger. It was such a transformation from what I had before that I think we both teared up — again. My original band came back looking brand new after they buffed out 32 years of wear and tear. And my new ring could not be more perfect. I feel like the original band pays homage to our humble start and early struggles, and the new band celebrates the incredible life we’ve created together. We’ll be back to let them do the same transformation for my husband.
