The university book store is awful with customer service because they don’t have to care. Students are going to go there for books regardless so they treat us like crap. I agree with some other reviewers that their return policy sucks and they do not take exceptions. By far the meanest guy who has helped me is Chuck. Life may be bitter as an old man, but you don’t have to treat everyone else around you like the scum beneath your feet! Ugh cannot stand going there, but I have to. I will say that there are nice workers here and there but they are usually students.

This book store has the worst return policy of any book store by far. I have bought books from both Follets and Amazon who have reasonable and manageable return policies. Was not informed of the policy at the time of purchase nor was anyone willing to try and help me when I went back.

1 star for convenient location and providing the option to buy my textbook if I know amazon will not get a book to me in time for my first HW assignment. 2nd star for nice variety of Purdue items such as clothing, hats, flags, car accessories, glassware, and more. Most items are overpriced. A good deal if you show up when they have sales. Textbooks are even more overpriced. Get your textbooks from or on the off season and you’ll save a lot of money. Renting a book here is convenient. Sell your books back on amazon, you’ll get more in return.

This place is a joke. Try taking a lesson in customer service. Each person I have encountered in this place is rude!!! The associates act like you are an inconvenience to them. Students are always wrong and treated like children who are chided for wrong doing. Any transaction or request that is out of the norm automatically turns into a huge problem. I’m not sure why this is since over 80% of the people that work there have been there for 10+ years. You would think they would know how to handle the operation. Word of advice to the disgusting excuses for human beings that work here… retail is not heart surgery. You are an employee that barely requires a high school degree. There is no reason to treat your customers with the utter disrespect I have experienced and witnessed. The location is convenient, but I’d recommend avoiding at all costs. I will walk a mile or so to go to the other bookstore, rather than deal with University Bookstore.

This is the best place around Purdue to get your textbooks at. They are slightly cheaper than the other bookstores around here. However, they offer a lot more for textbook buy back. I went to both Folletts and here and wrote down the prices each offered so I could sell each book back for the most money. In the end, I sold every book but one back to them because they offered much more than the other places. The one book I didn’t sell back to them was because it wasn’t going to be used the following semester. The other good thing about this store is their Purdue apparel. Not only do they have a god selection, they offer discounts on the days following Purdue Football and Basketball wins. I would highly recommend UBS for purchasing and selling back textbooks but I would also tell you to stop by and check out their Purdue merchandise, especially following a big football win.

University bookstore is a college book store located on the campus of Purdue University(right across from the student union.) It’s no secret that the school book industry is corrupt and has been preying on students for decades. Professors subsidize their incomes by writing textbooks and collecting royalties after forcing students to buy them. Local bookstores go along with the scam because they take a slice of the pie. Now that I have shared my opinion of the college-bookstore business in general, let me speak specifically about University Bookstore: The price: University bookstore is heavily overpriced. A standard textbook will cost $ 150. A hoodie will cost $ 50, and a fleece jacket will cost $ 100. A simple pen will cost $ 5. You can find the exact same stuff elsewhere for literally 50% of the price. The aesthetics: The store has been around for decades with little or no renovation — and it shows. The carpet is worn down to a hard brown sludgey surface. The linoleum is decaying and discolored. The clothing hangs on display racks that you would have found in a mall in the 1980s. The customer service: The staff is friendly until you have a problem. Then suddenly you become the enemy. I bought a book, and while checking out I specifically asked«Can i return this if I dont need it?» the salesgirl said«yes, within 2 weeks.» So within 2 weeks i came back with the book to return, and the person handling my return threw a fit. She began arguing and yelling. I was shocked. She asked me to go online and show her my student account to prove i dropped the class. I was flabbergasted. I simply and calmly stated that the salesgirl told me I would be able to return the book within 2 weeks and if she didnt take my return i would call my credit card company and report the purchase as fraudulent. At that time another salesman intervened and gave me a refund. The incident left me believing that most younger students, and especially foreign students would have wilted under the verbal abuse. That’s no way to treat customers. My ultimate opinion of University Bookstore is: They systematically rob the very community they are supposed to serve with exuberant prices and abusive customer service. Hopefully the internet and legislation protecting students from malicious book-selling practices will put this place out of business soon.

Came more for purdue clothing. Luckily I stopped by at the end of the year when most students are sayin peace out for the summer. So there were quite a few items at 50% off. By the time we left we had hoodies($ 19.99), jackets, tshirts, hats. The whole freaking works! Suuuper sale. Of course the trinkets and books and all were still expensive and no worth it but if you’re out to score some decently priced purdue wear at the end of the school year may be the time! The customer service was a little on the quiet side and no interaction with the customers.

1. This bookstore’s prices are way lower than Follett’s. 2. They do pretty good promotions during football and basketball seasons. For football, every touchdown = 5% off your entire apparel purchase. I went in there a couple weeks ago and got a pair of Nike running shorts for $ 19 after the 30% off(i.e. 6 touchdowns) discount. I think for basketball season, every 3-pointer = 5% off after a winning game. 3. I too buy all my books online, but this bookstore is not too terribly bad. Just don’t sell back your books here(or at any bookstore). 4. Taking off your backpacks is not that big of a deal. Go to any big city and you’ll have to check in all your bags(aside from purses) at the desk before you shop. I did my undergrad at UC Davis, and we also had to check in our backpacks.

It’s more than just a bookstore. However, it is still a bookstore. I always feel like I get ripped off when I go to bookstores to buy books. Lately I have just been buying them online. It seems much more effective. I sell them back online too. I never really liked the fact that I had to take off my backpack when I went to buy my books. I’m not going to steal anything. I’m just going to get my books and get ripped off by the outrageous prices. $ 50+ for a hoodie? I can get that at Steve and Barry’s for $ 19. Oh yea, that’s right you ran them out of business.
