Royal Clipper Motor Lodge

I like this hotel. It’s a small hotel with a small pool in the parking lot. The lobby is a small building in the parking lot.
The rooms are nothing special. A bed/​s, bathroom, fridge, tv, and micro. Not right on the beach but just across the road.
The housekeeping staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms have always been clean.
I’ve stayed here several times over the years and will continue to go back. I just like the place.
This last time I called to make reservation I found Mitchell to be extremely nice and helpful. I was trying to decide which days would be cheaper. He was great explaining rates for different days and cheaper different times of the year. The next time I called (to actually make the reservation) that man was abrupt and rushed, almost rude.

Clean rooms, staff will try their best to please you, very friendly and right by the beach. This is my hidden gem at va beach.

I’ve stayed here a few times. I had about a 6 hour drive so headed out really early. They went out of there way to make sure the room was ready early for us. And everyone was super friendly.

We only stayed here one night, and more than likely will not return here if and when we do come back. Everything worked for us, we were only expecting to stay one night, but the only problem I had was the beds themselves. We paid for a double double, and we got a small room, a 21″ CRT television (we never turned it on), a half-​sized fridge and a microwave.
We both like fairly firm beds, but these two doubles felt like we were sleeping on concrete slabs instead of bed mattresses. I got maybe 4 – 5 hours of sleep, and felt exhausted all the way home. The bathroom in this room was beyond tiny. Not even 6″ between the small toilet and the miniature shower that was not designed for a tall person.
Had to wear ear plugs to try and get any amount of sleep due to the excessive noise other people were making on different floors, the walls were paper thin, could hear conversations from the outside as if they were in the same room as us.
The parking lot is tiny, having to find a parking space for a Hyundai Tucson is not easy when other cars are parked in spots at an angle, pretty much taking up to two spots at once. For lack of a better term, this place is a hole in the wall, and if you can find a room at another place for about the same price, go to the other place, not worth the 4 stars other people have given it, at least not in my opinion.

My daughter was competing in Hampton a couple weeks ago, so we decided to stay in VA Beach… I felt it was an excellent excuse to touch the sea. :)
We needed a place for only one night, but the ocean front hotels on the boardwalk all required a 2 night minimum. So, we rented here. It’s a block from the ocean — so no sitting on the balcony watching the waves crash. But, it’s a short short walk to the beach.
My daughter, neice and I had a nice girls night. We got there, played in the sand, had dinner at a place on the ocean, and a nice walk on the beach. The next morning, my daughter and I had an early breakfast at a place on the ocean and walk on the beach. It was short lived, but a nice mini getaway.
The hotel room was comfy and clean, the staff was very nice. The only complaint is the sofa bed was terribly uncomfortable, so my daughter and I shared the double bed. Not the end of the world, but a double is small to share. The rooms are set up that if you’re traveling with 2 people or 2 couples there is privacy — no doors, but the bathroom and kitchen separate the 2 areas where the beds are so it’s pretty private — you can’t see one bed from a seating area or the other bed.
For our trip, it was perfect. For a vacation on a budget, it’s great. Four stars.

We stayed in a 2 double facing the ocean. I know this isn’t a high end but for the price well worth it. It has been some what updated and painted, etc. We had a early flight and asked to park in hotel lot while we were at the beach. Donte checked us in at 10am so we could have our room. Anytime I need anything, Brian and Donte took care of us. I would have to say the only thing I noticed bad was the top dryer doesn’t work well. We were very happy and will be back, again!

This motel was convenient for us because of the kitchenette and full size frig. It needs some TLC, though. A little on the run down side. The pool is very small. The DVD player didnt work. The A/​C unit was right by the front door so the bedroom in the back got no air at all. No alarm clock. Great location. The ocean was a walk across the street. Located towards the north end of the beach with less congestion but within walking distance of everything.
