As a vegan, I was super excited by their options. Veggie broth phở is great. Get the spring rolls, they are vegan too, not the fried type, they are the transparent rice wrapper kind with peanut dipping sauce, Uh-mazing!

I came down to the VA beach area for a small getaway with my boyfriend and catch up with friends. I did not expect to find a phở restaurant that truly caters to native eaters! It’s common for phở places to give more broth and less noodle and meat. Not here! The large bowl is truly HUGE. There was an even proportion of broth, noodles and meats. No skimping here! The broth flavor was savory and you can tell they boil their meat for the juice for awhile to get it that way. Which is what a lot of Vietnamese people do at home when they want a bowl of phở.(Trust me. I would know) I didn’t have the egg rolls but my boyfriend did and they were fantastic. The crispiness of the outer layer with the mixture of the chewiness inside was flavorful. The fish sauce was just the icing on the cake. I really had to tell the manager there it was the best phở I’ve ever had. Next time I’m in the area Phở 78 has a returning customer.

Once upon a time I did not like Phô, did not care for Phô, and didn’t even like the smell of Phô. Fast forward many years and I love Phô! There’s nothing I don’t love about it. Phô 78 has always been my go to maybe because I’ve gotten to know the owner(excuse my spelling of his name if it’s incorrect but it sounds like«Tree») and plus it’s one of the cleaner Phô establishments. Things to try: soft spring rolls — they always give you two, and that peanut sauce?! I always order the #9, #10, or #11. I always order my Phô without the onions and cilantro because I am not an onion or cilantro kinda girl. Too much for me! But«Tree» knows my order and never complains. He is always so accommodating and friendly. Another thing to try if you’re not in the mood for soup: their chicken wings is B A N G I N!

This place has to be by far the best Vietnamese restaurant around va beach. Their food is very good along with their service. Good comes out very fast and their portions are very generous. This place is the ideal place to go when is chilly outside. Try the chicken phở it’s really good and you get the option to either get a small or large place, although, the small portion is plenty. Strongly recommends this place.

Another one in our lunch rotation! As soon as you walk in, you are immediately seated. We usually are greeted quickly and asked for our drink order and because we come so often, we are asked what our order is. I tend to cycle through three things, Phở Ga(Chicken), Phở Rau with Vegetables or Bun Ga(Chicken Vermicelli). All great! These things have cured me from my colds and hangovers! Our order then comes out, we eat, go up to the counter to pay and leave. Such a fast turnaround. For apps, get the«Cha gio»(Eggrolls), they are served with fish sauce, for that tangy, sweet kick. Or «Goi cuon»(Spring rolls) another delicious wrap that comes in rice paper and pork, served with the peanut sauce. If you are in need of Phở, and need to be somewhere in a hurry, this is that spot!

I love this place! Super tasty vegan phở available and very fast service, They also have veg spring-rolls on the menu that don’t disappoint. Truth be told, the only other phở place I’ve tried is in Ghent and the broth was terribly bland. The veg broth here is much better. Plentiful serving portions and pay at the counter. They also have a pretty extensive(non-alcoholic) drink menu. I celebrated my birthday here with a group of about ten and there wasn’t an issue with service or quality of food. Super speedy tasty vegan soup=yes please!

My family just moved here from California and sadly, I left my favorite phở restaurant behind. That being said, I was eager to find a new spot, especially with this cold weather! I chose Phở 78 because it was close by and had some decent reviews. FOOD: The broth was delicious! I ordered the large, but the meat was just enough to eat in three bites. The noodle portion was on the small size as well. SERVICE: The man(with really great hair) who sat us and took our order was nice. The other two men who brought out our food were also nice. This one guy though, OHMYGOD! He was horrible! My 8 year old didn’t have soup, he ordered chicken wings with a side of steamed rice. His dish didn’t come with a fork, so I asked the one guy for a fork and he gave me the nastiest look and didn’t even acknowledge me when I thanked him. My family all looked at each other like, «What the heck just happened?» When I asked for to go containers, he was even worse! He brought them out and slammed them on the table, and literally threw the bags on top of them. I said thank you even louder than the last time and he just grunted at me. I was in shock and a bit amused by this point. He started to clear the table before we had even gotten up to pay and was slamming all the dishes around. By the time we paid and headed toward the door, I could see that he was outside smoking. I decided to make his night even more miserable(because obviously it was me that ruined his night *sarcasm*) by stopping and waving at him, saying good night, and thanking him once again with the biggest smile ever. He replied with another grunt and I just couldn’t help but burst out in laughter. This guy was a real piece of work! For service, he gets zero stars! *SIDENOTE* Another Unilocaler had almost identical comments as mine in regards to this guy, so I’m pretty sure it’s the same guy. Not too many servers speak in grunts!

Always great and delicious. This is the only Vietnamese restaurant I’ll eat at. The atmosphere is decent and it’s my go to place for dinner and lunch with family and friends.

Very fast service. A group of us(4) came in on a Sunday around 6, were seated immediately. Our server was nice and came by and asked us what we needed. Food was out in less than 10 minutes. My husband and I both ordered #9, the larges were $ 8.75, small is $ 7.75. Shrimp/pork rolls were delicious(2) for $ 3.45. Hubby ordered the fried eggrolls and he liked them a lot. Presentation was done nicely too. We enjoyed the broth very well, the meat I would probably skip out on next time, I would probably go with just the veggies. The rare steak was good, I was not a fan of the well done brisket. Our egg rolls were awesome and service was great. Clean environment and would highly recommend this location for Phở cravings!

Nothing is a bigger turn off to me than dirty places. The table was dirty, the sriracha bottle was sticky, and there were noodles still on the seat. My phở was pretty good, but the brisket pieces were all fat and no meat. I really liked that they put a ton of basil in front of me. I used every bit of it. The food was pretty tasty and the people were nice.

Having been to most of the phở shops around the hampton roads area, phở 78 easily takes the title of best beef phở. The broth is rich but light at the same time just the way its supposed to be. The noodles are on point — not sticking together, too soft or too hard. Condiments are fresh and clean. Service is typical for a vietnamese restaurant which is fine by me.

Wonderful soup base and the beef ingredients were seasoned perfectly. Also, their spring rolls were on point. A lot of times in Asia street food or noodle places are very welcoming to single eaters and this place is exactly so. If you just want a late meal and not be bothered this is the place!

My reliable spot for some good Vietnamese food! Been going here for the past 5+ years and their food always hits the spot. This is definitely my go-to for Vietnamese comfort food.

Awesome, efficient and friendly service and excellent food at this clean and kid-friendly restaurant with clean bathrooms and no changing tables, easy and free parking, three large TV screens playing US football, etc. — 4.5 star rating for the large Phở Ga(chicken) with a delicious beef broth and a generous size portion of sliced chicken breast, fresh vegetables and herbs. — 4 star rating for the large Phở Tai(beef) because the size portion of beef slices was small. The competitor ‘Saigon 1′ offers a more generous size of tender beef slices in an even more flavorful and complex broth for the same price range.

I wish I could rate no stars because I’m still so livid on my recent experience here. I don’t have high expectations for customer service. We’re all human and sometimes people have bad days, I get it. That being said, the service here was so bad I’m never returning. I’ve eaten at Phở 78 quite a few times over the years. The food is your basic Vietnamese fare, nothing more, nothing less. It’s close, conveniently located, and fast. My former«go-to» for rainy day cravings. My last visit was a disaster. First of all, the employee who was dressed like he was going to a disco had so much attitude trapped in his bell-bottoms, it rose up to his face and made him roll his eyes when I asked for a to-go cup for my coffee. The second employee who ran us our food spoke to us in angry grunts. I don’t think he spoke English, which is fine, but I don’t know why he was mad at me about it. He was the one who brought my cup out and slammed it in front of me. I wish I was exaggerating. These two were already cold, even before I made the mistake of asking for my to-go container. I think I offended them by patronizing their business, so needless to say, I’ll never return. Phở Dalat is better anyway.

I have eaten at Phở 78 roughly 10 times and I have never been let down. You can get in and out fairly quickly without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is charming and the owner along with his wait staff are on top of things. This is my number one choice for phở because the broth is free of MSG. Hooray for not dying when eating phở! Looking forward to my next visit!

¡Phở-nominaL! The Phở from here is like an elixir from God to cure my cold! I left here feeling like a million bucks after feeling like under the weather for a week! I got the rare beef bowl/large and it was amazing! I never thought I would like soup soo much! The shrimp and pork soft roll was good too with the peanut sauce with a dash of hot chilli sauce. I can’t wait to come back!
