Okay… I have been here quite a few times recently and am seriously reconsidering the frequency of my visits. The last three times that I have eaten here(either dine-in or pick-up) I have noticed that the ribs are overly salted. I don’t eat anything else when I am here because ribs are my favorite. Not only are they too salty now, the crust and pellicle are so overdone that anymore exposure to heat would deem them jerky. Last night I actually ended up giving my dog most of the meat because I couldn’t eat it. It was THAT bad. The green beans were so heavily laden with onion that when I pulled the top from the container, that was all that I could smell. They aren’t usually that strong. One bite was too much. I have no complaints about the fries. Their waffle fries are fantastic. They are always crispy on the outside with a hot and soft inside… perfect contrast. Did I mention the fries are always salted just right? At the cost of the rib plate I cannot see patronizing this establishment regularly with the rapid decline of food quality. All of the employees are beyond pleasant and very efficient. If only the food matched the service.

I love the BBQ here. Texas Style!!! The brisket is really good and the sides are above average. Try the onion tanglers, they are a nice change from fries. The green beans are great too. I’ve tried most of the meats by now and all are very good but I love the Brisket the best. This is the closest thing you will find to Texas here in Hampton Roads. If you are expecting the usual vinegar based carolina bbq, you won’t find it here. This is full of flavor and if you aren’t hungry when you walk in, you will be after the aroma of smoked meat done Texas style hits your nose. I’ve had some confusion when ordering a few times as it would appear that everyone behind the counter wants to specialize in tasks. No big deal… it gets done right eventually and I’m alway happy in the end.

Convenient little Barbecue place. The prices are high in my mind and I didn’t get the vinegar based pork I was craving but it was still good and the inside of this place is amazing it looks like a wild western saloon.

I’m new to the area. Service was outstanding. Meat was a little on the dry side. Sides were par with other places. Nothing really stood out. Nothing unique about this place.

Starting with a positive… the BBQ sauce options are hot and flavorful. The BBQ itself is served warm not hot. Another positive… kids eat free Sunday’s but unfortunately this did not pack in the customers when we were here. The food is ok. The BBQ sauce makes up for the lack of true smoked BBQ flavor in the meat. On top of this it’s a franchise so nobody is out back caring for your 15hr smoked brisket and ribs. I don’t think we will return we are true BBQ lovers needing the care and concern that dickeys just did not provide. The sides are I’m sure from a can…

Great service. When I visit this good barbecue place I am welcomed in a professional manner. Clean facility. Enough said. Good food! The food isn’t fantastic but I keep coming back, it’s very good. I will definitely keep coming back as well.

The food at this place was really all over the map for me. I ordered a two meat plate, choosing brisket and pork for my meats, and then chose the baked potato casserole and the barbecue beans as my sides. The brisket was some of the best I’ve ever had – moist and delicious. The pulled pork was flavorful as well, but not as good as the brisket. The baked potato casserole was basically mashed potatoes with some chives and cheese mixed in. It was tasty. The barbecue beans, however, left quite a bit to be desired. I swear they were canned pork and beans mixed with house barbecue sauce. I had sampled the green beans in the store, and they also tasted canned. So I guess the sides can be more hit or miss. The meal did come with a roll that was buttery and slightly garlicky and quite good. Service was friendly and personable. This was a takeout order, so I didn’t hang around in the restaurant, but the person who assembled my meal chatted with me about the offerings and let me sample a couple things. I will definitely return for the brisket, but I’ll be pickier about my sides next time.

Pros: There’s never a wait. The naked meat is prepped to order. Not salty, dry or artificially flavored — it’s good stuff! Daily specials offer a reasonably priced meal. Large dining room with sauce bar. Free soft serve ice cream cones. Cons: The ordering system is a bit confusing for the workers. Menu can get pricey if you stray from the specials. Now, BBQ is like religion(NO, not because you worship it). Everybody has pretty defined preference on what style they like. Dickey’s way is Pitt smoked meat, served up «naked,» and you sauce it yourself, however you want. I am a fan of this because I think it’s harder to hide mediocre meat if you can control the sauce. I dine at Dickey’s for lunch and also get the«family packs» for meals at home(or just straight meat if doing meal-prep). The sandwiches are good, buns toasted, heaping helping of meat. The sides are decent, I enjoy them all except if you’re picky about your Mac ‘n Cheese, you might wanna skip that. I mix the vinegary Carolina sauce with their«spicy» sauce and toss in some jalapeños.

I really didn’t find it to be anything special. It was OK, but not to where I feel like I really want to come back again. Pricey too. I didn’t feel like it was worth it, and plus the beef brisket wasn’t all that great either. And their ordering system is kind of weird too and I can imagine it being difficult for the workers when it’s busy. If they ever get busy.

Good food. Not a lot to say about the place. I’ve eaten there more then once. Very basic and simple bbq. Never a wait. They seem to always be dead.

Not a bad place to eat if you want bbq. It’s inexpensive and has a pretty good selection of food to choose from on their menu. Staff is nice and friendly. The restaurant is clean, but a little dark in terms of the lighting. Kids eat free on Sundays and self serve ice cream is free daily which is a plus!

It’s very tasty. One of the best places to have smoked Turkey. Wished they had Beef Ribs.

I’m a yankee. I have no idea what«southern bbq» is supposed to taste like. That said, I was pleased with both the food and the service. The dining area and restrooms were both very clean. It was very kid friendly and looks like a great place to bring a large group of people. Got the pork picnic platter for me, my husband, and toddler. We finished the sides, and still had enough leftover meat to cover the protein for another meal. The yeast rolls were so good I personally ate 3 of the 4 that came with. My only complaint(which is actually a big one) is we had SOMUCHWASTE. The sides were served in cardboard, the plates were Styrofoam, the cups were plastic disposable/take home, the flatware was plastic, and we used about 101 paper napkins. Every single thing except the trays and the food went in the trash. The solution to this, of course, would be to pick it up and take home. We’d still have our takeout containers, but you’d have that anywhere. We’ll miss out on the free icecream, but make up for it in karma.

By far one of the best barbecue spots around. Order at the front counter similar to subway. Make your way The brisket is super succulent, ask to have it chopped. Yummo. Large Variety as well as many side choices.

If I could give a negative star I would. Went in for lunch had the pulled pork sandwich. Pork tasted like it was cooked in a oven, bun had mold on it, I had the okra that tasted like a pound of salt and the drink machine had no ice… the worst bbq in the area.

We ate here for the first time. Found it in Unilocal And trusted a few good reviews. We came with only three families inside including us but that didn’t worry me. The smell of the BBQ makes me more hungry. The food looks American BBQ standard. Kids eat free on Sundays. Beef brisket and BBQ pork ribs satisfied our hungry stomach. My 5 yr old son liked the fried okra. Later on, people start coming. After eating the main meal, we had our vanilla ice cream that’s FREE! Anything free is good! The only downside is their entire floor tile is too slippery all the way to the bathroom. Overall, the food is satisfying.

I had such a great meal here! Their food is amazing! I especially liked their barbecue sauce that they serve on the side. I came here with my family, and we got their family pack. It came with more than enough food for all of us. It was towards the end of the day, so they were running out of a lot of their meats, but they made the difference for us and gave us extra pulled pork instead. And their pulled pork was amazing! I also really liked their macaroni & cheese. But all of the food was really good! Everyone working their were very friendly. They greeted everyone at the door, and all of them had a smile on their face! They definitely made the experience even better.

Although this isn’t the first Dickey’s Barbeque Pit location, this is the first time I’ve ever tried heard of this place. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place after receiving a couple free coupons from his work. When you first walk in, I love that pretty much everyone that works there greets you. The entire menu is up on the walls for you to see. There are a wide variety of options to choose from for a BBQ sandwich(pork, brisket, chicken, etc.). There are also several options to choose for your sides. In addition to sandwiches, there were ribs, brisket, and other typical BBQ foods. There is also a catering options for parties. You place your order when you first walk into the line. Then you have the option of adding 2 sides for $ 3.50, and then you can pay. Their large cups are plastic cups that you can take home for souvenirs, which I think is a cute little touch. We both ordered the Big Barbecue Sandwiches made with beef brisket. The meat was so soft and had a great taste with it. The one thing that we forgot to add to our sandwiches is the barbecue sauce, which is hidden on a different counter. I definitely would recommend the cashiers remind customers of where the sauce is to inform those not familiar with Dickeys. I had a little bit of my sandwich left that I dipped into the original barbecue sauce, which was very sweet. I will try the other sauces on my next visit. For our sides, we ordered mac and cheese, fried okra, and loaded mashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was very creamy and perfect for my liking. The mashed potatoes were pretty good, although I wish it came with bacon. The fried okra would have been better if there was not as much salt on them. For dessert, I ordered the pumpkin pie and added some vanilla soft serve on top. It was delicious and reminded me of Thanksgiving. I look forward to coming back and trying additional items on their menu!

Today was the grand opening for the new location and I was one of the first 100 customers. There was a line outside of the door but that is GREAT! I am so happy that there was a good turnout for their first day. The kitchen staff seems to be getting the hang of things although there were minor errors they performed great. They were busy! Awesome job to them. I ordered two pulled pork sandwiches and let me just say from the very first bite they were delicious. Not to mention the buns drenched in butter DOUBLEAMAZING! The pickle on the sandwich along with the onions is something I have never seen before and complements the pulled pork exceptionally. The menu has a wide variety and they also offer a catering. I will definitely be adding this to one of my go-to locations for eating. Atmosphere inside is welcoming and plenty of seating. I also received a signed copy of Mr. Dickey’s cookbook. For the area this location is in it went above and beyond my expectations. I have not been a fan of barbecue out here but now I am. Beats Whitner’s BBQ any day for sure. Thanks again for the awesome experience! …Although, I didn’t win a year of BBQ :(DARN!
